As an 13 year old in 1979 the 2 Tone movement was a natural step up from punk in the uk. It was all about the music, dance, politics, dress and party. Good times, ska in all it's forms is music that brings people together. Skank on.
That was awesome him talking about sending condolences to the thatcher family when Maggie died... good hearted dude I've seen them a few times and Dave gave me props for my fred Perry 😊
Funny I saw Dave at the US festival in 1983. I had just moved to California from England. Now he is speaking my lingo regarding living longer here than there.
I used to know Dave, ans was backstage at most of his Southern California concerts (including the US Festival in 1983). Next time I see him, I'm going to ask, in a polite way, how he feels know about having been proven so wrong by history about PM Thatcher.
Strange but true, I even used to visit/laugh at the 'is maggie dead yet?' website but now I realise I knew nothing and was just running with the herd, she was 3x the PM May is
Isn’t life so rich and subtle? No self respecting 20 or 30 year old in the early 80s would admit to liking Thatcher. But history has shown that she was the medicine the nation needed at the time. I wish we could have another leader with the integrity and backbone of Thatcher.
Please don’t confuse the evil of one era, for the evil of another. Just cos a weak Labour government ran the UK down, doesn’t excuse Thatcher completely destroying industries and communities. Coal is still being burnt today, Germany, the USA and other countries have steel and other heavy industries. Let her burn in hell. Btw her son Mark Scratcher was the dipshit posh mercenary who made England look stupid, fuck him too.
WTF???????????????????? within MINUTES this interviewer f's the entire thing up by bringing up politics??? I am a Beat fan, I saw the English Beat, Oingo Biongo and the Police in (I think) 1981. First time I heard of and saw the Beat. Went on to be a HUGE General Public Fan and of course the Fine Young Cannibals - I saw them in Chicago (I still have the stubs) I even shot the breeze with Ranking Roger AND got his autograph at the Cabaret Metro in (I think) 1982 or 1983. This is bullshit. I have all of the 1980s vinyls also. In addition, Dave, really??? you used to be so skinny and cute. the weight--- c'mon.
