Call me crazy. I've now listened to this piece 3 times in a row. These smiles of the guys are infectious! They are having so much fun! Ahhh, a composition with such an amazing groove; bass work, so tasteful, cool and grooving; drum work... well, what else do we expect from one of the best drummers who ever lived on this earth. This piece is such a treat!
Dave Weckl is great as always. Steve Weingarts talent is another subject. He is one of the most gifted keyboard players of all time. You may easily feel the soul of Zawinul or Corea from his detailed touchs or solos. He and Weckl totally fits together. Hope they will reunite for a new album.
Amen such a great piece of music the way they just toy with the timing the dynamics etc all 3 of these gentlemen on this stage are extraordinary players!!!!
Dave Weckl embodies so much of not only a drummer but also what a musician should strive for or can be. He plays being aware of what's going on around him, dynamics, technique, flare, control, flow, Master of the Groove, knowing when and where to place a fill or indentation. I have no doubt that other musicians want to play alongside him. He ties all musician's and sounds together. A true backbone to a groove and overall a very humble guy. Not overrated or underrated, just literally no words to describe MR. Weckl and how he approaches his instrument. Thank you for being such an inspiration and good example.
My God... subjective opinion I know but this drum solo is, even by Weckl's standards one of the most incredible i've ever seen him do. Insane musicality and beautiful touch. Just pure inspiration!
I’ve been seeing Dave play for well over 30+years and it’s been an absolute treasure to see how him and a another St. Louis musician ( Tom Kennedy although not playing on this upload ) has grown musically over these incredible years...
Dave is my hero, and he and Steve were amazing as always. Seeing Ben play live for the first time blew me away! Such an incredible performance. They should tour as a trio 👍
Great elegant music! I'm not a musician, I'm a simple listener and songs like this make me proud to listen artists like the protagonists of this video.
Dave Weckl has been my favorite drummer since I first heard him live in 2005, and for very good reason. His technique looks so damn natural and efficient that it's almost scary, not to mention his precision is unrivaled amongst even the most elite drummers; every note he plays is right spot-on. His drum solo displays such maturity as well.. the way I see it, exhibitinism has never been his primary goal. For him it's all about building a drumming narrative which supports the piece, and not an opportunity show off complicated nonsense tricks. Even though there's no such thing as perfect, I think he is the most complete drummer of all time. It's unfortunate he wasn't able to maintain the same kind of mainstream popularity as some other great drummers of his era. While most people reading these comments are familiar with Dave's work with Chick Corea, I would highly recommend Steve Khan's Public Access album from 1990. Most probably haven't even heard of this album but I think it's some of Weckl's finest playing.
McYaballow so true, and guess what... How giving He is to the drummers community with tons and tons of clinics, workshops, discussion forums, books, CD's... Constellations and much much moore,!
My hero who i listened to and patterned my playing style years ago was JEFF PORCARO, but this guy Dave Weckl is refreshing to listen to as well..👍👍.. every drummer is different. Thats the beauty of music..
I usually focus on drummers, but that bass is too perfect to ignore. He effortless plays that bass like another limb, supporting the section and providing nice grooves, all with a smile. What's more to ask for a bassist.
Steve Weingart just might be my favorite jazz fusion composer. Haven't heard such catchy compositional ideas since Weather Report. Too often, jazz musicians write these wonky tunes that do little aside from setting up virtuoso solos.
Dude, I’m two years late to this comment but YES! I’ve been trying to figure out why certain jazz fusion artists are so much better than others and I think you hit it right on the head. The solos should serve really catchy hooks and motifs instead of being the focal point of the music.
Dave Weckl, my favorite drummer since 1990 when I discovered him. Always better and better, always the perfect sound, the perfect note at the right moment. So much "finesse" !
I agree will all the comments. Even the top of the top, would have Dave as 'their' most complete and all round drummer and musician...hands down! He plays as smooth a water and becomes one with the rhythm and music he is playing. Stunning stunning musician.
There are many amazing drummers out there playing, however if you want to see the best and for all those great drummers; I always come back to Dave! His fluidity is second to none.
Maaaaaan you are so good! I'm a drummer and an 'absolutely nonpro keyboardplayer' so I've followed mr Weckl with enthusiasm since - 88 and enjoyed every performance and tune He delivered. Weingardt and Jay Oliver are glued to Dave Weckl in any collaboration. B Shepard seems to fit in with innovation and good taste in His playing. Thank you for bringing so much happiness! 🇸🇪
Loving Dave's technique and taste as I do, what really knocks me out is his following the time signature of these tunes. I know, in the end, it's got to be a combo of 4/4 and 3/4, but I can't nail it. Which he does effortlessly.
what a playout by Dave, great camera angle for it - insane playing, just makes you sit back and laugh. Too good. 8.05 that bit on the bell. the crowd love those few seconds, big smile on the Wex too. Bang on.
Awesome clip, great performance, thanks for sharing! This is what I call musicality. Some beats drums, other plays. Some plays with subtlety, touch, dynamics and mind-blowing creativity. Like Dave. Since first heard (early 80s) a favorite rhythm artist :)
That Dave is on stage with Steve and Benjamin is testament to their skills , the smiles on their faces a testament to his ! If you read this Mr. W. , please make a little error now and again ! Just for us poor Earthlings !
Great composition. Steve Weingart's style strikes me as a harmonic and melodic anthesis of Weather Report, Chick Corea styles influences resulting in his unique voice. Thank you for the inspiration!!
I can’t stress enough how much credit needs to go to these incredible musicians. All of them. To Dave Weckl, what an amazing man. So many years of hard work and dedication that he chose to put in. He gave every other drummer on earth the chance to feed of his knowledge. Thank you Dave simply amazing. You are amazing and the entire world Of drumming has idolised you from the beginning. Thank you for all you have taught us. 🙏
