David A Bednar clarifies that "use" is not the right word to describe what the question asks. He goes on to define what the atonement of Jesus Christ is. He uses other verbs that are more helpful for us to make the atonement effective in our lives.
He makes clear that "all we can do is never enough to be worthy and able to return to the presence of our Heavenly Father. It is only through the merit and the mercy and the grace of our Holy Messiah."
He clarifies that we are not only to do, we are to become. God intends to transform us from who we are to who God offers to help us become.
