He’s right. Messi is one of the greatest ever. With Pele and Maradona. Neither is better than the other in my opinion. If you look at each of their achievements, they’re all unique and special. There is a house at the top of the hill where Maradona and Pele live and Messi just moved in, now it’s the 3 of them. Sorry to the Cristiano fans but he’s in the Zidane, R9, Ronaldinho, Cruyff, Di Stefano class, exceptional for sure but not living in that house at the absolute top of the street.

I'm neutral in this but I'd say Maradonna at his best was more skilful and better than Messi at this best. Maradonna was feared from 1986 to 1990 by the worlds top defenders much more than Messi has been feared. DM also played in Italy when it was the best league in the world with all the best defenders allowed to be over physical. However DM was unreliable and due to his personal problems couldn't stay as number 1 for too long. Where as Messi has been in the top 3 best players every season for nearly 15 years. His record and level of consistency makes Messi the overall the best ever. It all depends on ones definition of what is meant by "best".
