The thing that makes Beckham great is that no matter how much money, how successfull in his footballing career, he still comes across as the local boy from around the corner who plays for the local team. Down to earth, and a people person with his feet firmly on the ground. Sitting in front of an audience and speaking for a long period of time, and making it interesting is a very very difficult task and a task that he has executed admirably.

David Beckham seems like a nice, humble and down to earth guy. I first came to know him, not as a soccer fan, but through a documentary about him as a person. As I was a serious and sincere athlete myself, I understand it is very difficult to be a real sportman and a man who gives it all to love for all he does. Nobody can say that who we can fall in love to. They stay in marriage for 21 years. It required commitment. Though I may not understand the celebrity hype, I sincerely wishing them all the happiness of the world. I admire their passion. He not only using his status to help people around the world, he is actually doing it with empathy. I believe no one should tell anyone whom to love. It is very personal and special to him as a person. Amazingly, he never break in spite of what he been through.

I've been a Chelsea fan for the past 15 years and have always thought that Beckham is the best footballer/football icon in the world. Great interview and fantastic person overall. David won't read this but best of luck in your career & with your family. God Bless you and your family.

@KingSplurgeZA I've also been a Chelsea fan for 15+ years (17 myself), I agree with the Beckham statement. David is a fantastic man, and is a big credit to himself, and his country England. I don't think no footballer will surpass what Beckham has done in his career. What a guy! I hope he will play and captain the GB Olympic football team, that will be special for everybody but especially himself.
