Nota even the best English Midfielder of England on is prime let alone the rest of the world. I can see at least 4 English Midfielders who were verter than bom: Bobby Robson, Paul Merson, Gazza, Scholes and Gerrard.
Well David Beckham is statically first just ahead of Frank Lampard. Overall based on goal contribution per game and all four are now retired. So David Beckham will still stay ahead of the other three. David Beckham definitely the best combination passer and crosser of a football out of the four.
I’m always hearing the Gerrard v Lampard debate… but what’s often overlooked is that Lampard holds the record for the most consecutive games played, week in, week out at 164 marches. Ppl undervalue just how important fitness is, the guy was consistently available playing at the highest level which enabled consistency in team selection. Throw in the fact he was the best attacking midfielder of the four and you’ve got a clear winner.
This debate is flawed to be honest as we are comparing a Hole Player with a Box to Box. To create the goal there's lot of contributions by a lot of player which gets overlooked in today's statistics collection of a football game.
Why comparing with only his English player!! To compared with between Lampard should be compared with each like the best attacking midfielder the Real goat athis position during his Prime...we knew Drogba because of Franky.. a player with midfielder like KDB and Stoker like M.Sallah one of the best penalty taker of all time,,,He almost won the Balon D'ore and ended with silver. Coz at his Time Messi was making anew memories of all time top scorers during the seasons...no one even for Lampard himself can't be upon Messi...and he was the 2nd Best player and cr7 was winner from man utd and they both are the top successful candidate from EPL and from the three Lion players he won the best players during his time
@@nativeyo Precisely. Player like Zidane as you mentioned, Rui Costa, Iniesta, Modric, Aimar, and more recently Pedri would ve been considered trash at the eyes of the estatistictards.
@@ScoccoSLB Yeah but OP never said football is ALL about numbers now did he? And if football is about SO MUCH MORE, what is it more about? Defensive tackles, clearances, completed dribbles, long range passes, accurate passes, goals conceded, goals conceded from corners and set pieces etc....? All of these are numbers. So what else is football so much more about that cannot be quantified numerically? Football is a sport and sport all about stats. How can you rate players without stats? Maybe I'm uneducated, so please enlighten me
Lampard was a complete central midfielder/box2box. Very well rounded. Stat king. Scholes started like a Gerrard or KDB, then became a deep central midfielder where he really excelled. Gerrard was a box2box machine.. explosive and exciting.. a style that truly represented EPL. Beckham was a specialist.. one of the most incredible precise foot in football history. Sensational technique.
Stevie G has produced this stat while playing in a moderate mid table team. We will not see such a player again. Not to forget his defensive contributions.
@@tafadzwazvokuomba8020 Yes Liv had a few world class players came & gone during Gerrard's time but these players did not came at the same time I afraid, Liv never had a complete squad during Gerrard time at Liv and always fall short at every department under different manager, for example during Houllier era, he only had Owen. Rafa took over in 2004 and in 2007 it's probably the strongest squad Gerrard could ever had with Mascherano, Alonso & Torres as world class players around him, but look at Chelsea squad at the same time, Makelele, Essien, Ballack, Lampard, Shevchenko, Drogba, Malouda, Petr Cech etc. During Brendan Rodgers era, in 2013 Gerrard only had Suarez & Coutinho consider as world class, but look at Man City squad of Aguero, Tevez, Silva, Nasri, Sterling, Yaya, Fernandinho, Kompany etc. Real Madrid and Chelsea tried to sign Gerrard in 2015 but he chose to stay with Liv, Gerrard stats would had been better if he join Real or Chelsea in 2005 and won more trophies under his name.
@@andywong9660 And one would also say that even with all the talent that was available at Chelsea, Lampard remained 1st choice throughout all those years. Messi played with world class players, Ronaldo played with world class players, does that diminish their abilities as players themselves?
Speed - Gerrard Dribbling - Gerrard Short passes - Scholes Long passes - Beckham Stamina/work rate - Beckham/Gerrard Finishing - Lampard Long range shots - Gerrard/Beckham Free kicks - Beckham Header - Gerrard Ball control - Scholes Penalty - Gerrard Crossing - Beckham In my opinion all of them were great, depending on the style of play you prefer. Lampard was more of a attacking midfielder with an eye for a goal. Gerrard would fit perfectly in today's Klopp team. Scholes would fit perfectly in Guardiola's team. And Beckham was more versatile player who's long passing, crossing and free kick abilities were top notch.
I always thought, Paul Scholes controlled the midfield with Roy Keane. Goals and assists are just bonuses to what he brought to the table. With the given statistics, the appropriate question should have been, “Who was the best attacking midfielder?”
Gonna have to go with Gerrard mainly for the fact that he played less games than Lampart and still got an outstanding record of goals an assists in the midfield position, and idk if you forgot about this but Zinadine Zidane said that Steven Gerrard was the best midfielder in the world at one point. Zidane : *“There was a point when Gerrard was the best midfield player in the world. It is unusual to get complete midfield players who can do everything, but that is what he was.”* So it has to be Gerrard, considering the fact that he only played for 1 club, well sorry 1.5 clubs.
If you're going to use goals and assists then his goal contributions per game was less than Lampard's (which, if you know anything about stats, is what means anything)
@@justtheon5903 Messi and Ronaldo also played in world class squads...proves nothing, you can still see the talent in players regardless of who they play with
Lampard was the best as far a goal scoring threat, Gerrard was the best for the big games and captains goals (although the slip that cost the league cannot be forgotten) Overall for tackling, passing accuracy and overall teamwork it's 50/50 between Scholes and Gerrard. Those 3 were incredible CMs. Beckham was exceptional at crossing and FKs and very unselfish. Lampard was easily the most selfish player but also the most dangerous, I'd rather Scholes are Gerrard in the trenches in CM with me.
beckham, is a player with the best life, trophies, charming skills, handsome face, amazing kids, beautiful wife, rich life, and continues to make a lot of money even after long retirement
I'll be honest, Beckham should have them type of numbers with the position he played and the team he had around him, same goes for Scholes but I do feel like he is a bit overated, lampard was a beast but he was more a number 10 role and had if not the strongest chelsea side ever but I won't sit here and say he wasn't immensely talented BUT... Gerrard takes it as he was a central mid who changed garden gnomes around him into avengers with his leadership and heart! The one player that made me support liverpool as he stood out amongst every other England player in the world Cup. He'd legit be better than kdb by miles if he had liverpools current team around him
Biggest bs I've ever read about Lampard. He was never a 10, he always played as a 8 and much later in his career as in the pivot. On the contrary, Gerrard was the one who played at 10 with Torres as 9 and Mascherano and Alonso in the pivot. Lampard was a much better player than Gerrard was, imo he is the GOAT midfielder to play in PL.
@@TheWarriorEmerged okay let me put it like this, lampard was not a defensive number 8, therefore, as lampard explained last year, "two 8's are more dangerous that a number 10 who stands there all day" implying the number 8 role for him and for gerrard was a role that was basically a number 10. Now the difference is Gerrard had no choice but to play this role because what other options around him did he have? Now compare the latter of the teams gerrard had to put up with in his prime compared to lampard and see who had the easier life. In this case lampard comes out better with individual stats because gerrard carried lfc singlehandedly but stats doesn't always mean everything tbf, look at Ronaldo and Messi as of right now, Messi hiding by the corner flag whilst Ronaldo is single handedly carrying the worst man u team I've ever seen. But back to my point, you would think everyone would pick lampard through stats, but anyone that watched football back then knows what gerrard was about and that's why they put stevie g above lampard more times that not... I mean he was the reason I supported liverpool. Never had I seen such an entertaining beast of a captain 🔴🙌🏼
@@TheWarriorEmerged ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kjtc4o4Ujrs.html there you go buddy, read the comments aswell :) there's also hundreds more if you type in gerrard vs lampard
@@bsperryofficial1286 "two 8s are more dangerous than 10" he said this from a team's perspective and not an individual player's perspective. Notice how he put the comparison TWO no. 8s with a SINGLE player as a 10. A player playing as a 8 has defensive responsibilities, a 10 enjoys a free role. SG too had a decent team in his prime, he literally won the UCL in the most epic UCL final and probs should have won the PL w Benitez (beachball) and Rodgers (slip) but was unlucky not to win, besides also won a couple of cups. The team under Benitez was pretty solid w Reina, Carra, Torres, Mascherano, Xabi A etc. Although I do agree that overall the Chelsea was better throughout both of their carriers. Also Messi also 13 assists as well and if look at his overall stats he has been pretty effective at PSG.
i dont have an answer to this debate but ill leave you with what barcelona legend xavi hernadez once said "I would loved to have played with Scholes," said Xavi. "He plays the game the way it should be played and at his peak he was the best midfield player in the world. “I don’t think it could ever have happened though because his love and loyalty for United was the same as mine for Barcelona.”
Paul Scholes, the most complete midfielder of all time. He could have chosen to have all the best stats, slamming in goals, ignore the coaches instructions to pass to the wingers and made the assist himself, he could have it all. But he chose to do the only thing Paul Scholes could do that the others couldn't. He controlled the game and gave the team possession and stability so that the others could do what he could also have done. Bravo Scholes 🎉🎉🎉🎉.
Paul scholes by far the best out of the 4 and one of the greatest midfielders of the modem era his range of passing, football iq and the way he glued the Manchester united midfield together through their most successful period of their history shows his greatness. So underated
This based on these stats is a hard argument to make, however, when the likes of Zidane, Xavi, Pirlo etc all rate Scholes as the best of their generation tells you what his opponents thought, when the best CMs in Europe at the time all rate Scholes the best, you have to consider he was probably the best. It's insane that no England Manager figured out how to play 3 CMs and use them all at the same time, seems simple to me, Gerrard as a 6, Scholes as an 8 and Lampard as a 10. They could've won the world cup if any manager just did that.
Actually before I watched the video knew David Beckham it was going to win everything in terms of assists. Beckham won both club and country in every thing that is a mayor responsability for a midfielder! I mean, he scored many goals, but the most important thing, most assists than goals and than the rest. He won in every percentage between the made goals and assists; the average between two. The others had many goals but not as good in passing and assisting as Beckham ;) It was the second most winner of trophies behind Scholes For me David was the most complete of the four, he showed on the pitch.
All 4 were great midfielders of all time. But if I had to choose one, it's Gerrard for me. Gerrard won the most personal awards among them. He was voted ''Team of the year'' ahead of Lampard by football experts for some reasons. Gerrard singled handedly carried average Liv to the 2005 CL final and turned it around against giant AC Milan to win it for Liv in Istanbul. Yes, Liv had some decent signings under Benitez but If you follow Liv close enough, you will found that Liv never had more than 3 world class players alongside Gerrard, 2007 arguable the best team Gerrard could ever had with Mascherano, Alonso & Torres as the 3 World class players around him, but he also got Benayoun & Pennan play at both flank in 2007. Look at who Lampard start with at Chelsea, Makelele, Essien, Ballack, Malouda, Drogba, Schevchenko, Petr Cech etc... Real Madrid & Chelsea tried to sign Gerrard in 2005 but he chose to stay. Gerrard stats would had been more impressive and won a lot more trophies & individual awards with Real or Chelsea.
Shevchenko was a flop, malouda and Essien aren't world beaters either. Especially malouda, other than the his time at Chelsea, where and when did he excel? Essien was a bit better than that but still, he isn't compared to other midfield greats for a reason.
Beckham should not be here and Lampard/Gerrard about even and very good midfielders at best but nothing more. Scholes is the only world class midfielder listed.
Scholars was more about the tempo of the game not just stats. But I love gerrad his d best among scholes n lampard. But who is actually comparing Beckham to them? Beckham is way better than all of them
Scholes technical skills with goals and assists are extremely inferior to Gerrard and Lampard. this answers alot of questions about who is the very best. This analysis is a little deficient because 50% of a midfied role is defense and keeping possession.
