/ thedeanomachine DeanLlewelly... Hi Guys! This week I've decided to play through ten of what I think are Bowie's best riffs! Please let me know what you think! And also if I've missed any ;) Deano x
"The Width of a Circle", "Sweet Thing" (solo, Earl Slick), "Fascination" (solo, Earl Slick)", "Teenage Wildlife", "Kingdom Come", "Fashion", "China Girl" (solo), "Joe the Lion", "Blackout", "Breaking Glass", "Heathen (The Rays)", "Speed of Life", "The Voyeur of Utter Destruction (As Beauty)" (live solo, Reeves Gabrels), "The Pretty Things Are Going to Hell", "The Supermen", "Loving the Alien" (live riff, Gerry Leonard)
It goes to show that confidence is everything when it comes to music. I learnt how to play guitar by the age of 14 but used to highly underestimate my ability. I always believed that unless my playing was highly intricate and complex then my own music was worthless. Now that I look back on the greats like Bowie, Beatles, Stones, Chuck Berry etc I realise that they weren't particularly technical at all. They just committed to certain chords and layered them to the point an entire different genre was created.
Thank you so much! It’s called an eBow. It causes the string to vibrate continuously using magnets, to create an effect like a bow on a violin or stringed instrument! They’re really cool for recreating that Fripp sound of the guitar feedback on Heroes ⚡️
@@DeanLlewellynGuitar I like the sound the ebow makes too and if you want to hear it used to great effect listen to "Harvest Home" and "In A Big Country" by Big Country
Hello, I would love to know where you got that first LP guitar. I'm looking for one in that color. Also I think you should've done Suffragette City. That song has one of the best riffs, for sure
@@DeanLlewellynGuitar daamn, if we're talking about Part 2s here then you should also add Joe The Lion and Fashion 😉 Also thanks telling, dude! You're very talented, don't let anyone discourage you!
@@DeanLlewellynGuitar sorry i meant rift And I listened to the song again and it turns out I always missed the guitar sound changing between the opening to the rift I’m not knowledgeable about guitars that’s why i missed the rift and thought you changed it Anyway marvellous work , i love this kind of videos because I didn’t learn music so the songs sound like noises coming together And when i see people recreating their favourite rifts i can appreciate the music more and see how different guitarists influences the songs
@@nawaf6993 All good bro! Thanks for the kind words. Bowie was one of the best for choosing incredible guitar players to play on his songs! China Girl really is an awesome tune with both Nile Rodgers and Stevie Ray Vaughan featuring :)
Half of These are Mick Ronson Riffs and NONE are David Bowie licks. To say these are Bowie licks is either showing a complete ignorance of music and Bowie history or just be too lazy to find out. Carlos Alomar, Nile Rodgers, and Carlos Alomar and others played these riffs.
Of course - David did not play these parts on the recordings, and was known for working with these collaborators :) However he did write the songs therefore the riffs are accredited to his work! It would be an incredibly long title if I’d named all of the guitarists involved…. Ignorance - not one bit ;)
