+Cosmic Rogue So very true....the TV viewing audience in the states would rather watch Nicole Brown-Simpson's blood on the 6 o'clock news....death, violence, despair....that's what makes good TV

***** For the most part, you are quite correct. America is an eclectic cultural/ideological playground, but there is an incredibly strong urge to use limited black/white thinking. Not for everyone, of course. But enough to cause a hell of a lot of problems.

+Itai Being an American, I feel more than qualified to say that you've hit the nail on the head. I certainly feel the media reinforces stereotypes and that there is very little "out of the box" thinking going on in regards to critical national issues. It sometimes feels like being an alien on another planet, in a different dimension :(

I went to Bowie Thanksgiving 1974 in Memphis, Tenn... I was expecting to see Ziggie .... And was surprised and somewhat disappointed to see the Thin White Duke ...
