This is the last interview by David Bowie. He's being asked about working with Ricky Gervais and appearing on the british tv show "Extras", in 2006.
Enjoy and keep cool.

I've thought this for a while, and found out that he was asked to play Max Zorin in A View To A Kill, but turned it down and later said he didn't want to spend five months watching his stunt double fall off cliffs : / So they asked Sting, and then Christopher Walken who is of course excellent.

This entire interview is satire. It is scripted, an actual part of the episode. All the guests who went on this show did interviews in this way, acting odd, contrived or full of themselves. Granted this one is more subtle but it's still not a real interview. You really should change the title of this because it's misleading to all the morons in the comments who are oblivious to the fact, acting like they've just watched an actual interview.
@4ebees
@4ebees 8 лет назад
+IronRooRoo Exactly. No one can think that Bowie is serious when he says he started off in serious movies...then segues into some of his best jokes "Yeah? You and whose army?" It's a great example of how Gervais is liked by other people in the business. They so much want to be involved in taking the mickey out of themselves and the industry.
@IronRooRoo
@IronRooRoo 8 лет назад
+4ebees Except that so many people commenting are clueless with comments like "wow he's so down to earth, great interview!" They're that thick they cannot even detect the obvious sarcasm during instances which you pointed out. It makes me depressed to know on average people are this stupid.

Well, first of all: you're wrong. This isn't a part of the episode. And I really don't think it's scripted. Cause no, not "all the guests" did this kind of interview for the show. This is a behind the scene interview and Bowie's joking around. But I wouldn't correct you like this if it wasn't for the fact that it's kind of fun when people call other people "moron" and in the same breath doesn't have a clue what they are talking about. Cheers!

Bowie was a really good actor. He was believable, no matter what character he played, even the absolutely absurd one like the Goblin King. I watched Labyrinth in second grade around Halloween, after that I listened to him as often as I could. My mom had one or two CDs, and they ended up absolutely destroyed from the constant playing (I was clumsy at eight, so playing a CD always meant it was dropped before I put it in.)

I love the deadpan, tongue-in-cheek subtlety with which David did this interview, "Well, as you probably know, my background's in serious acting, before I started doing the writing, singing thing;" giving "Rick" pointers on new ways of approaching comedy "that he hadn't really thought about before;" giving him some jokes to use in future episodes - "Yeah? You and whose army?" Or, "If you keep looking like that, your face will stay like it." "That's really quite a zinger, isn't it?" he said cheerfully. Brilliant. Having said that, the first time I happened upon this clip, a couple of months ago, I took it at face value and was left thinking that David's jokes weren't that good and were in fact jokes that had been around. In other words, it went right over my head. But in my defense, I think I was still very much in mourning over David's passing at the time and my perceptions were a little fogged over from all the sadness I'd been feeling.

This was in the extra content for the DVDs of Extras. I found it so brilliant and hilarious that Bowie stayed in character during this interview. God, he was so good - at everything he did.

I wish he'd done more films. And I wish I'd've been old enough to see him on Broadway when he did his run of The Elephant Man. That must have been thrilling.

Bowies sarcasm here goes right over the head of the generic US entertainment show audience.

@Dr Diablory Nah, just the Extras weren't as syndicated in USA. Sarcasm is a trait of intelligent people for one. The bigger the population, the more the intelligent, as more none as such. Being that with internet, unintelligent got their voice in media... Easy as that.

Its really weird, i've never met the man, never even seen him in concert, but even now a month or so onwards i still have this great feeling of sadness that he is no longer on the planet anymore :( So long David, the Starman's waiting in the sky

I'm confused by a lot of the comments here. I take it we DO all know that this wasn't a real interview? It was just Bowie and Gervais messing about between shooting scenes. i.e. the person Bowie was talking to here (the "interviewer") was Ricky Gervais.

+Ricky Rhoades Well now you mention it, he does look a wee bit lizard-like LOL. Rod Stewart's another one of the same era who looks incredible at the age of 70. I know they can spend as much as they like on looking good, but so can many others in their wealth bracket. Yet so many others seem to make a right horlicks of trying to stay looking young.

I've always appreciated Mr. Bowie as a great musician and artist with how he would use different personas - but honestly he was never one of my top ten musical acts (most assuredly a flaw on my part). Yet i obviously thought he was brilliant on Extras with his amazing comic timing - and then seeing this where he could so amazingly mock himself in such a hilarious way while doing such a deadpan kill shot - oh man, so amazing!!! I have shared this at least a couple of times a year for the last decade or so - brilliance on so many levels.

I bought his music from iTunes over a year ago . The Best Of David Bowie Nothing Has Changed 2012 Remastered. my kids who are under 10 years old are hooked. Starman, Ground Control, Ziggy Stardust etc etc. this proves that the music he has left us is timeless and will appeal to all ages for years to come. Thanks David for that Hazey Cosmic Jive.. . . .

I realised immediately that David was adopting classic English Dry Sense Of HumoUr and keeping a straight face while taking the piss out of himself.. I GUARANTEE many Americans will take this interview seriously.. NICE LAUGH DAVID..GOD BLESS M8...

Daniel Korolev David Bowie is incredibly talented nonetheless, as is Patrick Stewart. It's just a Ricky Gervais thing to try and make people say the funniest things, even at his own expense. So saying he litterally wrote it word for word is perhaps a bit drastic... But he surely directed and edited it. Hope there's no hard feelings there Daniel.
