You can't lose with Bowie, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and onward. He never stopped making amazing music and he never stopped changing, always had a new look and sound to go with that era.
Man he's new to you? Only one of the great rock and roll artists in history. Ok so there's Suffragette City, Ziggy Stardust, Changes, Starman, Young Americans, Fame, Under Pressure with Freddy Mercury, Heroes, Rebel Rebel, I'm Afraid of Americans, and so many more. Welcome to the David Bowie rabbit hole, you're in for a treat, my Bros!
Kind of saddening to me how everybody is just mentioning the obvious ones. Nobody mentions masterpieces like "Station To Station", "Stay", or "Cygnet Committee" among many other Tunes I consider way superior to his Radio Hits lol. But you can't go wrong with Bowie either way, I guess.
@@j.j.4150 I hear you. These aren't the usual for these bros. though. I've always found the songs on the albums, no matter who the artist, to be better than the ones that got all the radio play. That's where the gold lays.
@@DawnSuttonfabfour - Sequels nearly always come out years later. It's the very nature of sequels to do so. Whether in film, literature or music. If it comes out at the same time, it's not a sequel. ;) :)
"If we go into space, we should play this song." Here's Commander Chris Hadfield's performance of the song he did on the ISS: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KaOC9danxNo.html
Classic! The ever changing, brilliant, iconic artistry of David Bowie. He was my first concert...he was amazing. This was a nice surprise, today. Thankyou Bro's, enjoyed your reactions.❤😊
David was a G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time). This is one of my favorites'-David paying homage to space travelers. I am 65 years old so I was lucky enough to know the music of the last 60 years👍🏾👵🏿🎶🤗.
Ahhh Bowie, One of the greatest Artists ever. Now you have to listen to his best songs. Here they are. - Heroes - Life on Mars - Ziggy Strardust - Absolute beginner - Ashes to Ashes - Alladin Zane That enough for know, Mush more Bowie masterpieces after you have listened to those.
Just noticed that this is the first song you react from David Bowie? My god, he is one of the greatest artists in modern music history. The masterpieces from this man are endless!!! You are so lucky to hear for the first time Ashes to Ashes, The man who solved the world, Starman, Heroes, Ziggy Stardust, Time etc... There is no end!
This was written and released right at the same time Apollo 11 landed and Kubrick’s 2001 A Space Odyssey came out. What a freakin’ time to be young! Are you kidding me??? Written from the perspective of the lonely astronaut floating in a tin can, depending on his electronic guidance. If you want a rocker from Bowie, try The Gene Genie for sure! Keep bangin’ my Brothers!
THIS man is the greatest showman ever. You will have to keep an open mind and trust Bowie fans to guide you. Bowie fans guided me not so long ago and I had alot of years to catch up on.
Space Oddity was the first top 40 hit for David Bowie in the USA. It was a top 15 hit for him. The album version is longer. A few years before this, David Bowie produced the top 40 hit by Mott The Hoople called All The Young Dudes.
About time I saw a David Bowie from you two awesome reactionaries. I think Bowie is the greatest musical artist who ever walked the planet. Ten thousand years from now people will still be talking about how incredible he is.
Boys you have to realize the time in history. The space race was on, man had just walked on the moon. Bowie was called the chameleon always changing. His last album came out 2 days before his death. Major Tom was still there. 🔥
It's great that you're reacting to David Bowie songs and this one in particular. He was so influential in the 60s and 70s and beyond and I must have had loads of his songs. This one definitely takes you on a trip into outer space or beyond. You just go with it and enjoy. The film 2001 A Space Odyssey came out in 1968 and this song was released in 1969 so I reckon this was based on the movie. I loved songs like Jean Genie, Heroes, Rebel Rebel, Ziggy Stardust, Oh You Pretty Things, honestly the list is endless! David Bowie was a master at changing his image and sound, I think he was a genius at what he did! You're right, George, 70s rock is brilliant - so much experimentation was going on, bands finding their niche if you like and of course with all the different instruments making psychedelic sounds, it was like nothing we'd ever heard before!! Loads of new bands starting up, we were really spoilt! I'm so glad you've started doing reactions for David Bowie, I'm sure you will do plenty more. I so enjoyed your reaction to this one, George and Patrick, obviously something new for you and it's great you really got into it! All the best.
Saw him in concert, Sydney 2004, Amazing! I have 11 LPs and that only covers up to 1979!!! His songs have been heard in so many tv commercials. It's everywhere
Bowie- he’s all by himself in my opinion. He wrote into the history of progressive rock music like none other. RIP one of the best songwriters ever.🎼🎶🎵🎸🎤🎹🎧🔥😎on the vocals alone....but then the arrangement......oh my goodness.
*David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust* 🔥 *David Bowie - Starman* *David Bowie - Moonage Daydream* David did some songs about George Orwell and the USSR too.... ‘1984’ and ‘Big Brother’

Major Tom is also mentioned in "Ashes to Ashes", "Hallo Spaceboy", and "Blackstar"
@Zoey The Savannah Hi! I'm Jen! Is your name Zoey? Thanks so much for messaging! I'm such a huge music fan it's almost embarrassing. When I'm not watching it - I've got my earbuds in listening to it - when neither, I'm reading about it. 🤦♀️ Maybe I need therapy! 🤣 Thanks for your super sweet compliment. You just made my day! David was such a chameleon, wasn't he? He was a master at evolving which is why I put 2 70's songs & 2 80's songs so maybe we could discuss that. Glad you liked my 80's suggestions. IG me if you want - JENNHURL
I saw many concerts. This was the first concert that put on a theatrical show. During this song he flew over the crowd in a cherry picker. It was the first time we saw him play this song. We all thought the same as you....wants going on?
Arguably one of the greatest artists of our time. i'd argue that he IS the greatest. such a large, strange, unique and diverse body of work he left. PLEASE domore bowie. This one was his first hit released in '69....right around the time of the moon landing. it took him a few years to have more success...then BOOM !!! i would recommend checking out his stuff in chronological order...maybe a few songs from each album. (if not the WHOLE album)....this way you get to see just how drastically he would change every album or two. amazing stuff...
Ashes to Ashes is my favourite Bowie song and well worth a listen especially the extended version, and you saying music is the cheapest way to travel is absolutely true as music can take you anywhere, the earth has music for those who listen and I couldn't live without it
Before you get started on a ton of space-related songs, I wanna let you know only about a dozen Bowie songs out of 400 are involved with space. His career was incredibly diverse, so you'll hear a ton of songs about other things. This music video came out 4 years after the song and had nothing to do with Ziggy Stardust, and I'm glad you used a thumbnail for the right era, because there's an earlier music video for the demo version where he was more of a hippie. I strongly recommend you check out some of his different material as well as the songs people have mentioned. My picks for you two are: Wild Eyed Boy from Freecloud from the same record All the Madmen from The Man Who Sold the World Hang on to Yourself from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars Lady Grinning Soul from Aladdin Sane We Are the Dead from Diamond Dogs Win from Young Americans Sons of the Silent Age from Heroes Teenage Wildlife from Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) Loving the Alien from Tonight As the World Falls Down from the Labyrinth Soundtrack Seven Years in Tibet from Earthling Bring Me the Disco King from Reality You Feel So Lonely You Could Die from The Next Day If you pick any of these songs, whichever sound the most interesting to you, I can guarantee you'll be stunned. Keep up the great work! ❤
You're only grazing the surface with Bowie. There is so much mind blowing stuff from him that you have yet to discover. You're going to have so much fun! Peace!
Thanks for that correction. I was remembering seeing something at my grade school in 70’, which was the Apollo 13 mission it turns out. Should have double checked !
This man was a class act, "young Americans, diamond dogs, suffragette city, rebel rebel, the jean Jeanne,China girl" and so many more, ashes to ashes is the follow up song to this...Great reaction as usual guys.
David Bowie is a legend. The Queen vid u two just reacted to..Under Pressure.. Bowie co-wrote the song with Freddie Mercury. He has a plethora of great songs! Thanks for reacting to this vid!
This song is actually from 1969, the same year as the first moon landing, so it would be more accurate to say that it anticipated the music of the 1970s. That is certainly no surprise, as David Bowie was an innovator and managed to stay a little ahead of his time throughout his career. He was one of the great geniuses of classic rock.
Space Oddity was David Bowie's first single to chart, and this was 1969, just before the 70's. Can you imagine a song this good as your introduction to the world? This song spring-boarded him instantly to mega stardom.
So many amazing songs Bowie made! Ashes to Ashes Heros Changes Ziggy Stardust Life on Mars Fame And so many more... He helpt also Iggy Pop and Loo Reed to find the success. And he wrote the song which is my favorite performance of Nirvana : "The Man Who Sold The World" And I'd forget his last album "Blackstar" exit few days before his death. A pure gem.
David Bowie was the most diverse musician ever. He never looked or sounded the same on each progressive record he released - he had a new persona each time.
This was actually released in 1969, just before the Apollo11 Moon landing. It was his first major international hit. He went on to become one of the most innovative and influential music artists of all-time! He was hugely respected within the music industry. He's one of the giants of modern popular music! During the 70s he'd adopt a different persona for 2 or 3 albums and would become that character for that period. His two most famous alter-egos are 'Ziggy Stardust' and the 'Thin White Duke'. The 'Major Tom', mentioned in this song, has his story continued, more than a decade later, in Bowie's song 'Ashes to Ashes'. It was a huge hit too. He's had so many hits, over the decades, that it's hard to know where to start. As well as Ashes to Ashes, I'd also recommend 'Wild is the Wind'. It showcases his vocal ability and is a beautiful song. Just make sure it's the, slightly longer, album version. Of course, you can't look into Bowie, without listening to his album, 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'. It's one of the most influential albums in music history. It marks the height of glam rock and parts of it envision punk, well before punk rock happens. If the dictionary ever needs a good definition of 'cool' it could just have a picture of Bowie. He remained the epitome of cool, throughout his long career. An intelligent and witty man, when he died it was headline news around the World. World leaders, including the Pope and Barack Obama, paid tribute to him and the British Parliament tok time to pay tribute too, as did virtually every major star in the music industry. He's sorely missed. He was unique and we won't see his like again.
EVERYONE always does this song, but Starman is my favorite, please!! Bowie is a legend, I adored him. Golden Years, Young Americans, Changes, Life on Mars, Time, the entire Ziggy Stardust album. He's was a true artist.
