Roger Waters was a conceptual genius. But it took three masterful musicians to interpret his vision and give it the power emotion and majesty it otherwise might never have accomplished. Never have four people inspired each other to such greatness, imo. They'll never be another Floyd.

@goytabr
@goytabr Год назад
Yes, Nick is so precise, he knows just when and how to intervene. Unlike the albums, he stole the scene several times in the "Pompeii" video (just watch him in "Echoes" and "A Saucerful of Secrets"). I like this kind of subtle and precise drummer far better than those flamboyant, pyrotechnic exhibitionists. Another drummer in the same league, brilliant but underrated, in my opinion, is Hans Bathelt of Triumvirat. Just listen to what he does in "The Walls of Doom" (from "Spartacus") or in "Illusions on a Double Dimple".

This was an unexpected, yet subliminally beautiful follow up to Dark Side of the Moon. Just the fact that the Floyd had the audacity to release such an introspective, melancholy piece of music, when the industry wanted another "blockbuster" says so much about the character of these four amazing musicians.
@yanceynitzsche5115
@yanceynitzsche5115 3 года назад
When you said "I'm glad I started listening to them at this age", you hit on something important: Pink Floyd is one of those bands where it is nigh impossible to really 'get' them as a child or early teen. One usually needs to have matured into their late teens/early twenties to grasp what they are about lyrically AND musically, and the older one gets, the more sense they make. It's a huge reason why their Big 5 classic albums keep finding renewed relevance every decade or so, with each new generation. As a life-long Floyd fan, I'm glad to count you among us!

Pink Floyd have always been my favourite band, ever since I heard them back in the '70's, and they certainly still are today. To let you know, the Wish You Were Here album is about various viewpoints concerning the music industry, just look through the lyrics of Have a Cigar, Welcome to the Machine. How the industry is almost contemptous towards the musicians (Which one's Pink? or We're so happy we can hardly count.) Once you have finished doing the Wish you were here album, I would love for you guys to check out the always overlooked album Obscured by Clouds. And, like most of Pink Floyd's albums, you should of course listen to it from first track to last track, in order. With headphones. Enjoy.

It's been almost 35 years that I remember listening to this track. It is always new to me and the excitement never goes down but it goes up when I listen to it once more. The richness will never repeat. I'm very happy that I was born in a year that could have the chance to listen to this.

They expressed through this record how much Syd Barrett meant to them - you can tell they really loved and missed him.

I mean, I’m talking to the audience here, can you imagine never hearing this music that we take for granted and being one of these guys and getting all this stuff piled onto you In a relatively short period of time? I have excellent stuff in my personal collection that I know would fuck them up. No prisoners!

You guys are fantastic. This is the first time I have come across the channel and I wish you well in gathering more subscribers. The genuine reactions, particularly from the guy on the right, are a breath of fresh air.

Whatever you guys are doing 25 years from now (and I hope it's something great), I can tell you one thing for sure: you won't be tired of hearing this or any other Floyd song. And it won't just be nostalgia. You'll still enjoy it as much as you do now. I saw them perform this album in Madison Square Garden in 1977. I remember every visual that went with every sound. My friend and I listened to this album for the first time in my car in the way to meet the gang in a favorite bar. We listened to it at least three times in a row while seated in the parking lot. Never made it into the bar. He is now a keyboardist in a great Floyd tribute band in NYC. I've seen them twice and Roger Waters once. You will always like this.

I've listened to Pink Floyd and this song since at least the early/ mid 70's, I've never heard this version. Thanks, great find, great reaction. Love when twins/ siblings react. And kids / parents is always fun to watch.

I felt compelled after hearing your comment "This is not a song; this is composition. This is a composition dedicated to their best friend". It reminds me of the remark Leonard Bernstein made regarding Beethoven's 7th symphony, the first movement. He said it was perfection, as if Beethoven had a phone to God Himself who was telling him what the next note had to be. That is what this suite is like.

You should think of this as an ode to a fallen comrade. As such, I think the song works better as you get older, and you can think back on friends that you've lost or lost track of over the years. And it just keeps getting better as you get older (and believe me, I'm old enough to know! 🙂). "Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun".
