The choice of TVC15 was bold, brilliant, and fitting. Here's a concert trying to suck the TV viewer in to the experience and the aim, and Bowie performs a charismatic performance of a song about being sucked in to the TV. The song is a quirky, secretly romantic, kind of thing and it was gutsy to do it. It was like the Station to Station equivalent of What In The World from Low. It gives an interesting preview of where Bowie's mind may have been too - moving back towards an 'imperious' Bowie phase. There is a sense of the New Romantic about the piece as it progresses and, soon, Bowie give that flower again on his work on Labyrinth e.g. Underground and As The World Falls Down. He'd be very romantic for the rest of his career, really, inbetween the sonic and conceptual experiments. Romantic is something that he was only intermittently in his work during the 70s.

When you think that this song is about a girl being eaten up by her TV, the whole thing is a bit more ironic, considering this was one of the biggest TV events of all-time. Love Bowie ;)

he was on right after queen. my dad told me that alot of the singers didnt want to go on after queens performance because they knew they wouldnt get as big of a reaction out of the crowd.

What could've been a good performance is Queen with David Bowie singing Under Pressure.

they didn't even care to film the master of the keys, Thomas Dolby, for just one second. he essentially was his bandleader that day

Unlike other artists- who yes I can name... (Queen for one, Phil Collins...) and yes Freddie said it on stage there about Hammer to Fall... Bowie NEVER used a latest song to promote a track or album at Live Aid.
