I have a penchant for singer/songwriters (a rather vague term I know), and right there up amongst my very favourites is David Bridie. His Sydney appearances are a rare treat and not to be missed. This was a beautiful performance full of wonderful songs. He was accompanied on guitar, on all but two songs, by Rosie Excess. They were also joined for four of the songs by Christine Anu’s daughter Zipporrah Corser (or Zippy as David refers to her). There were two sets with a total of 19 songs, spanning David’s musical career from ‘Not Drowning, Waving’ and ‘My Friend The Chocolate Cake’ to his solo albums.

I had planned to sit on the left hand side of the room where I could get a good view of David playing. But when they opened the doors, there was a rush to get inside and there were no seats on that side. So I had to make do with a table on the far right, resulting in the unfortunate ‘x’ across David’s face. As the show progressed, I did gradually move myself to the left, finally ending up for the last song where I had initially wanted to be. Sometimes it doesn’t pay to be there early.
