How can we bring our country back together?
Bitter divisions along class, cultural, geographic, racial, religious, and political lines have grown so fast and so deep that America’s founding fathers’ vision of “a more perfect union” seems almost risible. New York Times op-ed columnist David Brooks has explores how local communities have sought to-and succeeded in-building bridges across divides. Join him for a crucial conversation about what’s working, what’s not, whether there’s cause for optimism, and his ideas for finding personal fulfillment in a fractured world.
This event is endowed by Lynda and Robert Safron / The Edythe Kenner Foundation.
Recorded on April 15, 2019 at 92nd Street Y.

Mr. Brooks describes himself - "An average person with above average communication skills" In truth, he is actually a wise and insightful human who's heart and soul speak with above average clarity. What a lift, challenge & connection his speeches hand out!

Really, authentic while he is hanging out with Harlan Crow. He is a shill for the wealthy owners of society. I can't believe PBS puts him on every week.

This is really brilliant. There are people on YT who tell stupid, mean, cruel, critical stories. They get thousands of comments. There are less than fifty comments on here now. This is the stuff of wisdom literature. It just doesn't contain the words thee and thou. David is speaking of the kinds of things that we intuitively know, but we are not as good with words as he is. This is below the radar but shouldn't be. I would like to have coffee with this man someday.

Here here, we are clearly in dire need of thoughts and ideas such as this, before we, seriously, go over the cliff.

My moment of great admiration for my mother Marie waswhen she showed me the rest of my life. Somehow new how much I wanted to learn to dance. She introduced me to Sallie M Bowie Daniel's she became like a second mother to me. My teacher my friend she trained me in Dance and to appreciate great music she gave me a vinyl of shostakovich Festival Overture to this day is my favorite She also made a ballet I will always remember to the overture I went on to study at the Houston Ballet 1972 from there to the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts 1982 Then attended the University of The Arts Philadelphia 1985 I danced and danced until December 2018. I now live a somewhat balanced life. This is my brief admiration story thank you mothers Marie and Sallie

Deja vu. Is this not the exact same preamble complete with exact same jokes at exact same 92Y as he gave for his last book? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UG6KsronKLc.html. Odd indeed. But I still like brooks and recognize his considerable commitment to increasing understanding and accord.

It was interesting to witness Mr Brooks superior communication skills when he opined the inflationary pressures he faced when tucking into a $78 burger and bourbon at Newark airport. Maybe he should send his expenses to Harlon Crow or the Koch bros as the hokum he presents is a convincing as Senator John Neely Kennedy's down on the farm drawl and helps serve and mask their agenda. He has little understanding nor interest in those living from pay cheque to pay cheque.

I find him platitudinous with what appear a serious of heart warning quotes, sad anecdotes along with series of glib asides related to how some people get by in a late capitalist society . That everything would be better if were happy with our station in life and we left the running of things to those already established in positions of power with a hope things may be better in the next world. A road map rooted in halcyon past and ending in an imaginary afterlife populated with inspirational posters (hang in there kittens suspended precariously from branches). I posted the following on this thread 4 months ago: "Unfortunately RU-vid continues to place this odious creature in my feed and i feel compelled o make less than flattering comments about his hatred of the working poor which appears to be a pastime in your illustrious nation. Rip way the gauze of home spun, salt of the earth faith based values we are left with the dreadfully bigoted , in much the same way that Billy Grahame et al were charlatans capable of condoning whichever administration needed whitewashing , thus allowing the creation and imprimatur of pernicious ideologies that eat the soul" He opines about a time that probably never existed, which is OK (through a glass darkly perhaps etc), but it was when he admitted to a friendship with Harlon Crow, with his obvious authoritarians characteristics, stacking the supreme court, and removing rights from the citizenry I gained a clearer picture of what Mr Brooks actually stood for. I wonder what he made of the Nazi memorbilia . @@beemo9

Let's play a game of bball one on one, horse, and 3 point contest and if I beat you I'm in.... I had my oldest boy at the age of 20 and in stead of my parents talking to me about college and anything regarding my future they threatened me and forced me to convince a "judge" that I was disabled. I never have been. My mom didn't know at the time what would come of that. DSS/CPS bothered me before as well and then my parents kicked me out and lied and never let me see my oldest boy and none of it was truly due to any bad action on my part or parenting. it was wrong place wrong time. And this life I was not meant for and I refuse to quit for my boys. take care

Pretty hard to listen to this after his defense of Harlan Crow on PBS News Hour 5/5/23. He came off like a gutless apologist. Kellyanne at least you know her values.

PBS turns off feedback on David but the sad Truth is that he continues to holf onto the concept that the current iteration of the GQP party is a legitimate institution, sad........
