I just watched utopia in Santiago 2018. Stunning set. Loved the two singer/dancers... successful artists really get better. Younger artists look up to these guys...music is one reason to be happy, and seeing musicians grow and change over the years is a pleasure.
I think some artists are just people first, and their art is secondary. I've met Devo and they are normal guys. To see them dress, perform, and express their thoughts and ideas seems anything but normal. I guess we should all think that way. We're all artists; some of us just don't find it. It would be cool to go to a laundromat and see graffiti on the walls, or see construction workers expressing their inner artist.
So the Boston host complaining about bad news and then probably shoves it down the throats of he alleged listeners & viewers. Why not ask Byrne about his music? I mean, he's come up with nothing as popular as the Talking Heads in over 25 years...so why not bring out the hit material as a theatre presentation, rather than touring as a burned out hack.
A better question is, if you dislike what Byrne does, why do you bother watching him? The Talking Heads has been over for 30+ years, yet an aging population want to live past glories and pretend they're young again, by wanting artists to play a concert that amounts to greatest hits. How boring. The fact is, there is no reason to reform the Heads other than money - and Byrne has plenty of that. he doesn't owe it to aging hipsters. Byrne is an artist, and he has continued to grow and evolve. The rest of the Heads? Harrison hasn't released anything in 30 years, and the Frantz's haven't released anything in 20 years. Your solution - play old shit. Really? If you don't like what Byrne does, don't watch/listen to it. How difficult is that?
