You are absolutely correct! Saw him last summer at The Rose Music Center in Huber Heights, Ohio while he was on his American Utopia tour and it was a spectacular show. I hope to get the chance to see him live again. The best part was when he basically stopped the show a few songs in and demanded--in his comically awkward David Byrne style--that they shut down the 2 huge LED screens that are on either side of the stage because they were extremely bright and distracting, they were also greatly taking away from the lighting effects that are incorporated into the show. It took them a few minutes to figure out how to completely shut them down, but he waited, and reminded us that the show is in front of us, NOT on those big screens. It was great, and he was right too. The Rose is not a huge venue and it really does not need those giant screens. The point of LIVE music is to watch the person/people performing on the stage in front of you.
I think it comes from the bad Western habit of considering only young products as only valid, whereas in most other cultures, masters are done with the benefit of time
ok, I was a bit of an impatient cunt. I've just watched it through and I know what you mean - it's pretty awesome I I do like that mental dancing from the 80's though
Kinda true. But also, I went back to watch some clips from Stop Making Sense in his younger days-- and I have to admit. I had forgotten how breathtaking those performances were. I literally had tears in my eyes.
There is such an unique element of David Byrne's voice that knocks me out. A mixture of trembly vulnerability together with a reassuring strength...how he do that? LOVE
I've said it before and I'm going to say it again. I'm forever grateful that in all of the history of the human being I was born and living concurrently with people like David Byrne.
I usually don't listen to a song twice in a row cause I'm afraid I'll get tired of it. But everytime I listen to one version of Once In a Lifetime, I just have to listen to other live performances, the instrumental, etc. I don't know what's the magic in this song that always makes me want more
He is an amazing voice of our generation. I've been stuck on his songs for years. And hope the rest of my life! Another example of musical genius right in front of us
A tune that speaks the Old truth of life....?.never gets old. The first time I ever seen them on TV years ago was a revelation . No genre just good stuff.
Uh no dumbass, first of all, Byrne was born in 1952. And second of all, adrenochrome isn’t the wonder drug you conspiracy theorists make it out to be. All it does is slow bleeding a bit
You'll be hard pressed to see four guys, especially the drummer and percussionist, having so much fun performing. Plus those shirts give "garage band" a whole new meaning!
It was weird how they just went away. Naked was good to my ears, but someone somewhere thought they were played out. I thought they still had room for more.
I remember first hearing this song in a Hollywood movie staring Richard Dreyfuss, Nick Nolte and Bette Midler (not forgetting the stunning Elizabeth Peña who sadly passed away in 2014) called Down and Out in Beverly Hills released in 1986, which was one of my favourite american style 80's films. *_Paul, (Liverpool , UK)_*
I've been a fan of Talking Heads since I saw "Stop Making Sense" in a little arts theater in Philly back when it was released. And while I will always love Jonathan Demme's version of David Byrne's vision for the film, this is one amazing performance. David really channels Adrian Belew, who obviously had a big influence during his short time with the band.
@@deaterk I think they meant like most singers when they age their voice sounds more fragile and shakey. So they were surprised when his voice wasn't as bad as they thought. Idk just a guess.
Whoulda' thunk, David Bryrne is reminding me of Lyle Lovett. What fun. And I would like to add that it remains over the years, this Austin City Limits program has consistently brought out the best of so many artists.
I'm South African and remember discovering this a while back when the old music channel used to play, it was a trippy music video but i was inlove with it.
Every live version of this song that I've watched is always so entertaining, energetic, and uplifting! I've been watching David Byrne for over 40 years and the man has not lost a step! He's one of the best musicians and performance artists that I've had the privilege and pleasure of watching!
A wonderful performance by David Byrne & his band here. I also compare him to Van Morrison in this respect - as both give us all majestic & outstanding 'muse'. They do always bring out the best in their support artists, and with any instruments & vocals, when joining the leader in song. Everyone is always smiling and energetic. Yes, I find that's not always the case. And to borrow from Van here, I do only mean that to be a 'wonderful remark' by me.
