I remember watching this at the time and just being freaking stunned ! It was truly AMAZING and FEARLESS ! My opinion one of the most legendary moments of my 66 years of watching television !!!!!!!! David Cook is badass and should have taken the title that year for this alone .
I remember watching at the time and listening to the judges repeat how brilliant it was because he made the song his own by arranging it in a new way. Pretty sure Chris Cornell was as pissed off as me.
Seriously think David killed nearly every song he covered on that show!! Amazing voice, amazing stage presence! 3 years later and I still get goosebumps at every single one! Best artist to come from a talent show!
2021 and still chills throughout the whole song. Chris Cornell did an amazing job on the arrangement, but David really hit it home with his vocals, damn! Of course, the biggest props still go to MJJ for the original song. A great song can bring so much joy in so many ways!
Wow!!! David Cook is the real deal -- what a beautiful arrangement and performance. And what a great choice by Davis and White for their ice dance performance. Chills.
Yup I'm with yall. I thought Paula was gonna grab him teach him what a woman really wants and how to get her there!! Other stuff since then has not had "IT" as much
I have to admit, David Cook singing this song moves me in ways I haven't felt in a long time. I always listen to this version when I am in RU-vid. His voice is the best in this century. Thank you David. Keep rockin'
My version of this purchased from Itunes was stolen on my external drive, and it is no longer available from Itunes. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was afraid I would NEVER hear it again. It is fabulous with the video clips. YOU ROCK!!
The swelling beats of the orchestra play beautifully into David's anguished vocals. A completely different vibe than MJ's version, and really brought out the storyline for me.
I am a HUGE Chris Cornell fan; from his Soundgarden days to AudioSlave to now, his solo work. And as much as I love his voice, I must admit, this version rocks! Kudos
Why haven't I heard about this earlier? I have chills listening this with Ilia Malinin in US nationals ice skate and immediately search this! Very worth it indeed.
This is by far my favorite version of the song. I like all three, but this version has so much emotion put into it. It sounds 100% genuine in the way his voice is. I'm very impressed
No matter how often I hear this performance, it just thrills me. I found my idol when we made sure David Cook won AI! I hope he has a song of this caliber on his second album coming out some time in early 2011. He is just spectacular.
Blew me away on idol, and years later great version. It's so different from the original that their both on the same level of perfection for different styles. Thank God good music!
one of my favorites cover that David did! Incredible had he put his own mark on a great arrangement by Chris Cornell. Some of the notes are so sick! Love David's voice!
this is the performance that blew everyone away. He didn't "attempt" it. He blew it out of the water. He can sing just about anything...because he's that good.
I just love his amazing voice. There is a reason this version sang by Cook was used on the Olympics ice skating competition. Regardless of some of the negative oopinions here, most people love this. We all have our favorites, don't we?
His version of michael jacksons billie jean was spectacular and amazing!!!!!including his beautiful version of mariah careys always be my baby!!!!!this is the reason why he won the competition!!!!!what an amazing singing talent!!!!!!love you david cook!!!!!!
I saw this on the original day this segment aired on American Idol...David Cooke blew me away with HIS version of Billie Jean ... He kicked ass...this was before MJ died .RIP MJ
For those of you that don't follow David Cook that closely he did a wonderful rendition of this song at his Feb 2 concert in NYC at the Gramercy theatre laryngitis and all. Yahoo is streaming that concert for the next 24hrs in conjunction with Live Nation. Sooo good!!!
This is how a cover should be done - a unique and different twist. But you better have the talent to pull it off, otherwise don't embarrass yourself. Michael would be proud.
Chris Cornell did do an amazing job of recreating this as his own song. David Cook did an Nice cover of Cornell's version. All credit to Chris Cornell for this.
Vagner Gomes better than this guy, maybe. this guy sings a bit too low. but notice that renato had some trouble pronouncing the words, being not from the US. can't touch Cornell, even when he's 2 decades older than these fellas.
I think slowing the song down and listening to the words slow like that just shows what a fabulous writer Michael Jackson was. The lyrics to this song were such poetry and slowing it down gives the opportunity to truly appreciate Michael's poetry. Of course dancing to the original version is awsome and Michael's version is awsome, but now I wish I could have heard Michael sing it this way. Oh it makes my heart throb just thinking of Michael singing it slow like that.It would have been moving.
You may hate me for this, but I must say the truth.... I don't like covers... But this one... Shhhh... Better than the original version. AND I DO LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON
She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene I said don't mind, but what do you mean I am the one Who will dance on the floor in the round She said I am the one who will dance on the floor in the round [2nd verse] She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one Who will dance on the floor in the round [Bridge] People always told me be careful of what you do And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts And mother always told me be careful of who you love And be careful of what you do 'cause the lie becomes the truth [Chorus] Billie Jean is not my lover She's just a girl who claims that I am the one But the kid is not my son She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son [3rd verse] For forty days and forty nights The law was on her side But who can stand when she's in demand Her schemes and plans 'cause we danced on the floor in the round So take my strong advice, just remember to always think twice (do think twice.) [4th verse] She told my baby we'd danced 'til three Then she looked at me She showed a photo of a baby crying His eyes looked like mine Go on dance on the floor in the round, baby [Bridge] People always told me be careful of what you do And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts She came and stood right by me Then the smell of sweet perfume This happened much too soon She called me to her room [Chorus] Billie Jean is not my lover She's just a girl who claims that I am the one But the kid is not my son Billie Jean is not my lover She's just a girl who claims that I am the one But the kid is not my son She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son Billie Jean is not my lover She's just a girl who claims that I am the one But the kid is not my son She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son She says I am the one, she says he is my son She says I am the one Billie Jean is not my lover Billie Jean is not my lover Billie Jean is not my lover Billie Jean is not my lover Billie Jean is not my lover Billie Jean is not my lover
Im a intense Archie fan, but this song, and what Cook did with it. Its stunning. Makes me cry. Brought Mr Cook's soul out The people are asking, we are calling on and for the artists, the storytellers, the singers. Tell us about ourselves.
