This is the Mr. Rogers (Banana Bandana) trick that David Copperfield does during his special, The Magic of David Copperfield VIII: Walking Through The Great Wall of China.
My favorite part is the fact that when he switches from that monstrous offense of a leather jacket to the red cardigan its supposed to be this dorky transformation. Thanks so much, 1980's.
@ Jean He's always had a comedic flair about him and this so freaking funny ! I still recall my ribs were hurting as I was laughing so hard! keep magic alive and Enjoy Luv!
Thanks for the upload, it made me laugh and smile. I needed that :) I met David in May 1988 at the Bob Carr Theatre in Orlando when I was stationed there. Got several great pictures with him.
I love david copperfield .. he is great... I love the way he performs.. so perfect.. and he is a very humorist magician.. though I've watched it again and again.. still, he makes me laugh... very good!
David Seth Kotkin Copperfield born again Christian brother in Christ illusionist magician and his illusion crew helper's at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk Virginia long time ago did this very illusion plus New illusion idea concepts every year at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk Virginia long time ago from 1980s into the 2000 something
hahahahaha I soooooo loved it :D Amazing, I love him !!! He is the best in all history. I didn't stop laughing since the first seconds and his magic is always so cool.
I'm no expert on purses, but I don't think that was a purse that ever actually existed. Then when I saw Copperfield perform live not long after this the jig was up. During the performance, he did this same exact bit and just "happened" to "borrow" a purse from a woman in the audience, and it was the *_exact, same purse!_* He even did the same "Wow! You are *_organized!_* Did you get this on TV? ... K-tel?" schtick. He did it word for word. I was maybe 12 and I remember it hit me. "Okay. That's a setup."
hahah.. Wow. I performed this trick (used with a devils hank) in a show a performed a few years back. I never realized how much history it had and that David did it in his early days.... WOW!
all magic have a trick, its an illusion..its a misdirection..david c,david b,penn and teller,etc..all of them became popular because they have a great presentation in their magic some of them have originality...look at this trick, its old and simple..but its very entertaining because of the good presentation together with david's charisma..david is the master of mixing a good story, comedy with magic..
I like the "borrowed" purse that Copperfield used, although A) you need a little pre-show work and B) asking for the purse first rather undermines the gag that you're only doing what the tape is instructing. Still a great trick, I'm just being a perfectionist. Carl-Einer Hackner does the trick with a folded square, which avoids that problem but provides its own when you realize it basically *is* a bandana. Thus undermining the gimmick of not having one. I think if I were to do this trick now, assuming it fit my persona I'd wear a baseball hat and then hide it in the hat. You can even make the "squeeze it" step be putting the hat back on your head, which I guarantee an audience would love. It's not hard to gimmick and then just ditch the hat (or the compartment) afterwards.
@gromovrocks ya think so? i have another theory... the "banana" was in fact a banana peel it only had air in it.. and the bag was a gimmick bag... it had three layers.. like a clubhouse sandwich.. get it? each half/layer was identical to the other... with the middle part separating them... the "banana" was put in the first layer.. and the "vanish" was done with the second layer... leaving the "banana" sandwiched on the first layer... if you already get it, good... if not.. PM me.. i'll elaborate
He Even had TV commercial for Bush gardens Williamsburg Virginia long time ago then he started performing at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk Virginia with his illusion crew helper's
Meanwhile in an alternate universe David Copperfield is watching Mister Robinson's neighborhood and took a cue from Robinson, by stealing that woman's handbag.
don't compare David Copperfield with other present magicians, he is the first legend, why do you all have to find the answer or secret for magic? just let it open a new world for you. You know what, in that time, people believed in what he did and they would lose their heart for knowing the secret of these.
@@miamimagicians Mark Wilson and Douglas James Henning saved illusion magic tricks and David Seth Kotkin Copperfield born again Christian brother in Christ ps David Copperfield perserved it
@bigk181 No, I wasn't doubting what you said, I was just being sarcastic... Thanks for the post because I love this trick and seeing Copperfied do it was a real pleasure!
Some rip off in the Melbourne comedy festival that's on right now just ripped of this routine. It should be uploaded sooner or later (not by me). He is Swedish, and his name is Carl-something.
@bigk181 Thanks, because based on the hair, glasses, and clothing the people were wearing I was guessing '82. Well, I'm not wrong, it's just that the audience wasn't up on their trends.....
My dad Marcel Franklin Page jr likes this one also and many stage illusions TV specials ps My dad Marcel Franklin Page jr got promoted to heaven a few days before Thanksgiving 2010 I'm glad he's a born again Christian brother in Christ John 3: 16 Holy King James Bible
Horst Weinert Copperfield says. “In France, I sued someone who stole my Flying illusion, and I was successful. The lawsuit prevented him from performing it again without compensating me.” i think he had Copperfield approval to do the trick. Btw its a basic magic trick..the only special thing about it is that it is a banana.
good to see someone who argues with reason and not with insults, hard to find that on the net these days. While I still think its pretty much a copy paste and by the specific level of comedy not just a basic trick anymore I think your argument with the lawsuit wrecks it, so gg :P
Plopp I have a good feeling you haven't seen the video he is referencing plopp, because if you had you would know that he performed the trick almost word for word and even copying the facial/body expressions.
This magic is entertaining and well presented; however, it is simple. The bag is like a book, with one page. When the banane got into the first page, closed, it was hide there. David just flip open to other “page”, the banana was thought to gone.
The wrinkles of the flat bag. The first one had a lot of wrinkles, the second one had less wrinkles. Haha. But the real magic was in the comedy and story telling and entertainment value. Flawless execution. Really nice trick! 👏🎉
