But it is Norm's birthday and THAT is something to be happy about, because just try to think about a world without Norm and his store and his guitars, wouldn't be the same would it? My late father had one. Afflicted by the same conditions, the binding and the electrics... he also had a 1958 6124 Single Annie which was bashed up to hell that I had restored and still have. Old Gretsches are great guitars, full of character.

Pretty guitar. Sounded nice. Lemmo did it justice. My mom was in the car business (SF Bay area) and came home from work one day casually telling me, as I was stirring pasta sauce for dinner, how she'd met someone I might know. "Right, Mom - who was it?" as I continued to stir the sauce - ho hum... She couldn't get his name right at first, "David...David Cosby?.. David...?" I started to connect the dots. "David Crosby?" I asked. "Yeah, that's the one." 🙂 Oh, good grief. He'd been interested in a car they were selling. A Logonda. She showed him the car.

First things first, Lemmo is the focal point here. Norm you are a gentleman and a scholar for the level of respect you put out for your celebrity customers. I am a life long fan of CSN & CSN&Y many great songs. I am glad to hear that David straightened up late in life. I must admit that I am surprised that David lived to be an old man. My father got a country gentleman around 1971-2, he’s 85 now and passed it down to me a few weeks back. He met Chet once spending most the day with him at a charity golf course thing Chet even gave him his address saying if you’re ever down there you’re welcome to visit me.

This Gretch reminds me of George Harrison's Gretch, which Norm didn't get. Norm told the story about that Beatle coming to Norm's house looking for a 1959 Les Paul. Norm's wife must have freaked, and also realized that her husband is the real deal when it comes to buying and selling guitars. Anyway , George had his Gretch with him and wanted to use it as part of a trade for the Gibson. As Norm tells it, that was one big mistake he made, not getting a $1,000,000 guitar. He did sell George the Les Paul. I wonder if Norm thought about the George Gretch when he bought Crosby's Gretch. Dealing with the heavies. Anyway , I saw Crosby and Nash many years ago in Montreal and their singing was harmony from above. Thanks for the music David.

David played the walnut colored Gretch at the Magic Mountain music festival in 1967,a week before Monterey. Photos taken of it at this venue are the only ones known to exist. With gold plated hardware,it was a nice example of guitars made by Gretch at that time.

What a goood guitarplayer. He respects the instrument and lets i sound at its best. Wonderful ! I had one identical Gretch, pink colour , the best guitar I ever had . The neck was so good.- A perfect neck ! I surely regret selling it ( to have money for a car ) I have had them all, Fenders, Gibsons -- Now one one of my favourites is a mex Tele where I have changed mics an modifyed the bridge. It has a very good and stable neck. I love making rock-guitar sounds, though Im not a great guitarist.

When I was in high school in the '80s, around '85-'86, there was a kid from school who played music with me and my buddies who would bring a Country Gentleman exactly like this, but in immaculate condition. It was his father's but he was allowed to use it/play it. It was such a gorgeous instrument. I guess his dad really trusted him. Honestly, we all loved that guitar so much we were all very careful with it.

I have the 12 string country gentleman and always was inspired by Crosby to get it. He played the alembic 12 string and the 6 string country gentleman but the 12 string country gentleman always made me think of him for some reason.
