A new flavour of tutorial video! Here, I start with a level that was submitted to me for feedback and implement some suggestions to decorate it or make aspects of the gameplay a little smoother. Can you suggest any other techniques or rules that you like to follow in your Doom mapping?

Agreed. Once RAMP is finished then I Hope he would consider giving me Help Like this on a feW maps even though I am a Much bigger doom mapping noob Than the maps he has featured thus far

I loved this video and would watch these all day long. Also 33:10 was fantastic fun to watch :)

6:00 While it's not always that good looking, you could just use one of the ZIMMER textures as a midtexture for the trees, so the upper "leafy" bit only appears to be 128 units tall. The downside is that it's just a circle of floating textures rather than a "real sector", but it can be better than having 256+ tall treetops extending to the roof! Alternately, you could just create yet another small sector around each tree and lower the sky ceiling by 64-128 units. Just some suggestions for possible ways to deal with that tree issue!

That's a great technique that I forgot about while editing around live :) I wondered about lowering the ceilings around the trees but was worried about what it would do to the skyline.

Hi, I found an old diskette with a doom 2 map I created in 1994 orso when I was 13. I still have a very old pc with a diskdrive somewhere. The map was pretty well done for when it was made and how old I was. I'll try to copy it soon and give a link ;)

That would be incredible if you could revive it :) I recently did a play through of my own terrible old WADs, but they barely worked!

I want to believe that my own first couple of Doom maps are in better shape than this one was, given how much I've iterated on them before considering them finished, but your tips in this video have none the less inspired me to go back and spice up the "nothing" areas a bit.

32:32 I am fine with doors that can't be opened normally. If that was a trap door like before then it's ok if it's seamless wall. But in this case, when I press the button later and something else opened somewhere, I wouldn't be able to know what opens, while in this case I might think "remember that door I couldn't open?". It could also be a different texture door or metal wall, but something to remember that could be opened later but not in a normal way.

Hello, I really liked your video. I am working on some pretty complex doom maps myself, and I was wondering if you would like to give them a try? I am planning to do a complete iwad, but that's still far away. I have 8 maps so far, but I am working now on redoing the first and second maps because I just didn't really like them. I am using many of the tools you are talking about in this video. Please let me know if you would like to give my maps a try. Thanks!
