It isn't a difficult solo to play, but it has so much heart and nuance when played by a master like Dave. I can play the notes but I can't imbue the guitar's tone with soul like he can. I agree, it is ones of his best solos since the Pink Floyd days.
In any tongue is a masterpiece. What other legend is putting out songs and solos like this at 70 years old? There's a RU-vid channel names Alive by Memories, he is uploading full remastered versions of Gilmours shows from that tour. He's got like 24 shows so far.
The guitar was WAILING, SCREAMING in pain, agony, sadness! NOBODY can wring such emotion from the depths of a soul thru a guitar like Dave Gilmour can. That is Gilmour’s great gift, and he is indeed the MASTER of it.
I played the hell out drums most my life. Until it was not an option due to noise where I live and space. When my son grad and moved I missed his guitar whaling from his room. I watched the few shows as always by Floyd and or Gilmour but this one time I watched it I had to have a strat. I knew only basic chords and taught my son when he was 10...Bought the black strat FSR MIM ...2018 Ff to today from 2019 I started uploading my progress and now I make little loops and solo over them. I am not very good but I owe the passion I have for guitar to David Gilmour. His style is what drove me to learn. I felt like he was playing stuff I should be playing. I was a maiden fan and loved metal. But always favored Pink Floyd like they were my own band. In my own weird headspace. I used to get stoned and lay down as a teen and listen. Headphones and all. I'm not the same guy I was then but again David Gilmour doesn't get old. I can listen over and over. I wish I could describe this to the rap kids. Teach them about art. Anyway I've said too much. This was an excellent solo.
Dude I watched your videos. You sound great and it's very creative. Not expecting that. Really digging your channel bro. And like you, David Gilmour is my guitar idol.
@@JayWater wow I truly appreciate that !!! It's wonderful to find another person that has the same respect for David Gilmour. I truly appreciate your kindness. I will be watching out for more of your amazing cuts my friend.
This song has one of the best solo's of DG, and the mix with the harmonies from backing singers Bryan Chambers, Louise Clare Marshalll, and Lucita Jules is just next stunning.
Agreed!--if by "Pink Floyd days" you mean the Pulse tour--the "Comfortably Numb" solo on Pulse is his very best ever! And the "On an Island" solo is really moving, and "Louder than Words" is good too.
@@TjtsAndroid Гилмор может и не такой виртуоз, как Ричи, Плант... Но, Он и гитара - одно целое. Здесь ему равных нет. Гений гитары и, как композитор и исполнитель.
Old jazz story: Legendary tenor saxophonist George Coleman was once coming off stage, placed the saxophone down on its stand and was approached by another musician who pointed at the saxophone and said, “Man, this is a great horn! It sounds so great!” Coleman paused a moment, turned to the other musician and pointing to his sax said, “Yeah? how’s it sound now?” 😉
@@zem69666 I guess!!! At one time he could have opened his own shop! Btw, more than one was sold to make up 3M. I believe I saw at least 6, and the money went to charities.
Of course this is wonderful. But the stupid SB title gives me the creep. Simply a lie just for the attention. An absolutely normal, correct as expected guitar solo from Dave, just in terrible quality.
@@ThePFRG - True. Maybe a hairsplitter comment, but as I've mentioned, I really do love him since I know my wit. Couldn't list even a hundred best solos from him, his guitar magic just as in studio or alive is that tremendous. But you right and the most important thing is the music that we all love so very much. Best regards.
David Gilmour my guitar hero! I can assure you that a RU-vid video simply can't capture the magic of his tone - you've got to experience it live - as I did 1989 in Lausanne and 1994 in Basel. It's the most incredible exciting defined and warm tone I've ever heard coming from an electric guitar on stage.
Of course every solo is slightly different for “In Any Tongue” … I prefer the one from Pompeii on the same tour and year. Something on that solo just blows my soul right out of my body and leaves me with tears streaming down my face.. Over the years, no guitarist has ever moved me as much.. A close second would be Gary Moore.
