My word. This book was respectful, moving and so well done. Greed fosters evil, but dark doesn’t win over light. I hope that the descendants of the victims find a measure of peace and strength in the memory of their ancestors.

Jennifer, I just watched the film and I’m quite disappointed. I thought the book did a better job of depicting the deception and the injustice perpetrated against the Osage people from the local to the Federal level. I also was remiss that there wasn’t more about the comeuppance and plight of this wealth in the Osage nation. My only wish was that this was story told by the Osage people and not a white man. I know Osage people contributed, but I just didn’t want to see so many whites on fillm. I wanted to see more about your people and what your people came into, what they lost and how the osage nation moved on.

Worthy of a “Rest of the story” piece to highlight how chronologically close these events were as well as how geographically close they were, just a few miles apart. I wonder if Osage money helped residents of Black Wall Street get started. What was the relationship between the Osage people and African American people during that timeframe…and since? I’m guessing Bill Hale and his lawless cronies must have known the owner and or the pilot of the airplane that bombed Black Wall Street. I think David Grann knows there is another book here just waiting to be written. Will he write it?

I'm not from USA, I didn't know about the reign of terror in the Osage county until Martin Scorcese's film. I do know in general about the racist and genocide intentions in US towards Indigenous people and BlackAmericans up till now. In my teenage years, I read in our nationa newspapers in the 1970s wrote about contemporary, forced sterilization of native women in US. It was a means of genocide. I know about the Tulsa massacre, it is a well known story among people of the Black diaspora in and outside U.S. It is not that these stories are not told among Indians and Blacks. Apparently all this is not taught in your history classes, not published in your newspapers, and not to be seen among your national television programs. However, all of these hidden stories can be found on YT, and often in music too.

An important book, about ONE of all the crimes that native americans have experienced, due to greed, through out history, since colonization. It's really time to put the full picture in history books. I'm really looking forward to the Scorsese movie, based on the book, so even more people will know about this. With Scorsese as director, de Niro, di Caprio and a lot of native american actors, as Tantanka Means (AIM activist Russel Means son, in it, I guess it will be a masterpiece. Hopefully Robert Robertson will write some of the movie music and arrange the rest of the music in it.

Under the negotiated agreement, executed on Oct. 14, 2011, litigation will end regarding the Department of the Interior’s accounting and management of the tribe’s trust accounts, trust lands and other natural resources, including the tribe’s mineral estate. The United States will pay the tribe $380 million to compensate the tribe for its claims of historical losses to its trust funds and interest income as a result of the government’s management of trust assets. The parties also will implement measures that will lead to strengthened management of the tribe’s trust assets and improved communications between the Department of the Interior and the tribe, including procedures for delivery of periodic statements of account, annual audit information, and information relating to the management of the mineral estate to the tribe. Importantly, the agreement also provides dispute resolution provisions to reduce the likelihood of future litigation.

Fascinating. Dear Osage, we see what kind of trail you've had to walk. They tried to stamp out what happened, but some small form of justice is being served in a book and now a movie. Just goes to show history never dies, but the men and women behind the criminal enterprises do. Okla became a dumping ground , the final solution (if-you-will) to the problem called the American Indian. Even today, Okĺa is still involved in sticking it to the American Indian of Okla. A question that needs to be asked: Why is Gov Stitt(or those advising him) taking the McGirt case(under Bosse) back to the US Supreme Court? "The love of money is the root of all evil." The Osage have lived this..they have suffered at the hands of those in this state who love money. Here's what I see--- I see a Great People's Rising amongst the ashes, and no one will be able to stop them. Go on and dance into the horizon, the Great Spirit will continue to carry you on HIS WIND & WINGS. His Story(history) can NEVER be stamped out. #Osage #McGirtcase #justice #guardians #oklahoma #killesoftheflowermoon #NativeAmerLivesMatter #davidgann #mollyburkhart

The oil fields gave out, or don't produce as much as they did back then, or so it seems. However, surely the stealing guardians etc invested the stolen money in real estate, land, etc., and put these in their own name. Their offspring may still be rich, wealthy because of criminal deeds of their (great)grandfathers. There must be a way to give it back to the Osage, or contribute by way of mandatory charitable contributions. I realize, such a thing may be too complicated, since the offspring may be mixed Osage-White. However, the racist state Oklahoma or the general racist government of the USA facilitated crime e.g. robbery and murder. They created a racist system ('Indians are too stupid to manage their money'). I feel the USA government, or the specific State of Oklaoma, should compensate the Osage community as a whole. Wouldn't that be the right thing to do? Good that Osages are buying back the land.

No, they have control themselves! I grew up in a small town in Osage county. My grandparents property was right next to the “Indian village”. My best friend was Osage & so was my first “boyfriend”! When I was about 10 or so we kept a little Osage boy & he was just like a little brother. We kept him night & day except when his mother would come take him for a few days. He was so cute! Now he’s a BIG man! My mom & I went to see him at a pow wow when he was in his 20’s. He played football in college, probably high school. He was a big boy! He’s in his late 50’s now. I later found out that I was part Cherokee. The Osage also have casinos. They’re doing alright.

Actually 1/4 of Osage wealth is currently in the hands of non Osage people.

Descendents of the White people that married into the Osage at the time are still there and influential. I just saw an Osage woman say all this in a short documentary here on RU-vid.

No, the Osage Nation held those mineral rights when they bought that land. They and their attorneys were wise in claiming the rights of everything underground on their land.

Native Americans more or less refuse to get involved in this society. Case in point, they dont want to be bothered but they complain about not being represented. well guess what- you need to be involved

Let me asked you, do the Native Americans being offered the same equal opportunities to involve in the society in US? Read the history, Learn the reason why they are retreated and do not make a prejudice judgment without any grounds.

@creolelady182 it's more complicated than that for many first nations peoples. That's an ignorant statement to make unless you have firsthand spent time with the people on the reservations where the government placed them. It's a battle everyday for many different tribes to be heard and many do stand up and do get involved. "Case in Point" you should not speak about things you don't understand.

Idiots commenting on the seats need to grow up. It is common practice for seating arrangments like this. It is nothing to do with race. Its to contrast the guests being interviewed, who are sitting to one side, and the host and auther of the book, which is on the other side.
