Thank you for this documentary! I am Osage and have studied this history for years. It is fascinating and horrifying at the same time. I wanted to cry when I watched it. It's good to know our story is being told! May the victims rest in peace 🙏
To all past and present Osage... My heart is heavy for the loss and suffering that your people have been made to suffered through. If simply saying.. "Im sorry", for the wrong and the hurt that corrupt people have done would be enough to heal your hurt... Then I wish you would hear it and see it every day!! The Osage people were done wrong! I was not alive when this wrong was done.. nevertheless. I am sorry.... For the wrong that has been done to you.
I am watching “The Last Samurai” And have been reading “ Killers of the Flower Moon”! My heart has been stricken over this! Look! Everyone is talking about how terrible it is that America is being overtaken.. What did the AMERICANS do to deserve this! Who should get reparations?? The Native American! Nobody wants to talk about that, Right?? I think there will be Much Conversation when this Award Winning Movie comes out! Thank You!😘
I am part Ojibway and we are still fighting to get our lands paid for by the thieves who took it. I received ten thousand $ for land bought illegally by the government which is worth 1O0 times that! Being Native puts a burning desire for justice for my ancestors and their suffering!
My uncle was a tribal Cherokee, who left great mineral rights to his daughter. She went away to uni and died, and all the mention of it went silent. It was terrifying for her mother.
So basically the Anglos kicked the Osage off their land several times and when they settled elsewhere and oil was discovered on their land they murdered them for money . That’s so disgusting. Land back ✊🏾
Sad to see my tribe's past and all those who scammed us. I have read the book & I have never seen something so evil for something so meaningless as money.
well technically that's true but we didn't join them and then steal their money for greed. We were trying to survive and gain land. Which was successful because we had parts of Missouri, all of Kansas, and a little bit of Oklahoma. We also needed food.
I am an 46 year old Oklahoman and our Oklahoma History class in high school barely touched on this horrible unjustice that the Osage suffered. I live 15 miles from Pawhuska. It amazing to see them filming the upcoming film Killers of the Flower Moon.
One day in 1970 I was visiting my cousin and his father told us this story. We were from different tribes but, as a 16 year old, I was shocked to learn of the absolute evilness of it. Thanks for the presentation.
I am so sorry for what they did to your people. This made me cry, the greed people have is just horrible & human life just does not seem to matter. Rest In Peace to all that lost their lives 🌹
The Dakota and Lakota sioux people would always feel poor innocent death's of our own tribal traditional people! In our very sad tragic stories of the bloody sioux Indian wars of conflict from 1854 to 1890! There would be another very Great bloody conflict during the great depression of the two hot summer days of August of 1931! During the time of sooner policy act the reservation land take over of the better half of the 20th century! It actually started in spring time the American towns people and the ranchers in the northern part of the reservation. Would instigated by causing terrible troubles of violence!! Would trigger the start the Buffalo County war or the Great war for the northern part of the crow creek sioux Indian reservation of SD. Half a mile northwest from the town stephan. A large encampment over sixty to eighty hunkpati Dakota sioux people were still definitely living on Cheney rush encampment site! A long narrow valley just below the hilly prairie land country along the beautiful Missouri River. Later a large party of over hundred American civilians would arrived there with guns and rifles very unannounced! The seriously wanted to take away their entire northern part of the reservation the tribe still owns today! The guilty intruders would hate kill an brutality massacre an entire encampment of my poor innocent wretched proud Dakota sioux Indian people! The brutal hateful torture to death at the Cheney rush tragedy, the second sand creek massacre of 1864! The elders were young children at the time saw an witness the tragedy unfolded there will hiding a safe distance away. Later the Dakota sioux men also heard the very sad tragic story of their own love ones who wrongfully murdered there! The men's hearts were broken they never get back very sad tragic story! The very next day over three hundred angered Dakota sioux Indian warriors were coming ready to fight against the American guilty murderous intruders! An many more warriors will becoming later! On the prairie land country along the beautiful Missouri River. The American civilians we're setting up a camp site near the massacre site! Someone told them they would be facing a huge massive large numbers of warriors coming towards them from a great distance away! Iron Nation's kul wicasa oyate Lakota sioux Indian warriors may have assisted in the fierce fighting to! Dust would rise up from the horses hooves made a great impressive very battlefield scene after a running battle into a full bloody conflict probably more Americans civilians were killed there! An several brave sioux Indian warriors would lose their lives in the very great battlefield moment scene! The rest of the defeated wounded weakened American intruders escaped or fled back across the reservation border lands! To their own ranches and towns never wanting to take back the hunkpati Dakota sioux people's traditional reservation Buffalo hunting grounds and our rich fertile farm lands along the beautiful Missouri River! The last true forgotten tragedy of the 20th century and the last brave Dakota and Lakota sioux warriors true victory song for the two hot summer days of August of 1931! This very great victory is for retribution for lost poor innocent lives at the brutal Cheney rush massacre site! The Cheney rush massacre victory site is still there today. Half a mile northwest from the town stephan SD along the highway to the capital of Pierre SD. North to the two small rolling hills. The one hill on the left side as a great resistance for our native American indigenous people of North America! My historical information for today. Have a great fabulous wonderful day.
Academy award winner.....I CELEBRATE that your ppl were finally allowed the truth....I knew this story as a young girl...My heart &soul is full of joy....We are the ppl & we are not gonna be denied anymore....Thank you for shining a bright light on this atrocity....We r not done, we will b respected for our heritage....& Not b forgotten....thank u...✌❤🌎🪶⛓🇺🇸
This is my first time ahearing of this. Its a shame ots not included in history class in school. 🙏🏾 for all affected by this tragedy. Completely unfair and definitely unkind.
Alot of fools making slack jawed comments are kids or not American. This stuff is VERY VERY serious to us Americans. We will make things better one day. E Pluribus Unum.
@Dazz 416 It's an aspirational saying to inspire, and it has inspired millions. We as humans create slogans and mottos to remind us of higher ideals which we as humans will fail to live up to, That's life.
Synchronicity: i played fear and loathing in las vegas on audiobook (here on youtube) during the night and here, early morning , i read your comment that would fit perfectly in this book
Went to public school, K-12, in Oklahoma. High school was in a town across the Arkansas from the Osage. Never heard of this or the mass murders in Greenwood that happened around the same time. They buried that stuff from us. That is a terribly, terribly racist state to this very day.
@@whatknotcovfefe I grew up 30 miles from there and still visit a couple times a year. There remain way too many whites who would do this and Greenwood again tomorrow if they could.
I am not American, but injustice resonates deeply with me no matter where it is found. RHETTY FOR HISTORY CHANNEL also covered this disgrace that is the Reign of Terror, and he mentioned the book, 'Killing of the Moon Flower' which tells the tragic story - and I will definitely order it. I don't know how anyone could treat another human being with such contemptible disrespect - not now, and not then. We were all born with an inherent knowledge of right and wrong - but some people don't listen to what they know is right. I've heard the 'excuse' a million times of "Oh, but it was a different time 100 years ago" - but if they were any different then they would not have thought it necessary to hide their crimes and murder secretly. I hope their property will be fully restored to the rightful descendants, and that these poor souls can rest in peace knowing that we know now. We know, and they're not forgotten.
This is such an interesting piece. I am british but have started learning about Native American history after watching a fictional programme called Longmire... I have learned so much!
Can’t wait to watch Killers of the Flower Moon!!! What these people did to the Osage Natives was Atrocious!! Absolutely horrible and I hope they are rotting in hell for it!!
Professor. R - i agree i have always thought the same. Some people will do anything for money. I know personally from all the scammers i once encounted Some people in this world are evil beyond evil,no mistake about that.
@@amandadassonville4043 And of course no other race (especially "indigenous people") ever murdered or exploited each other. Asians, blacks, south Americans, etc would never do anything wrong! Oh, you are that dumb, to believe that. Okay 👌🏻
Thanks FOR SHARING THIS INFORMATION ABOUT THE DELIMA AND STATUS OF THE FIRST NATION PEOPLE..... NOW THIS HAS HELPED ME TO UNDERSTAND THE HISTORY OF THIS U. S. A. CONTINENT.... ALSO THE BLACK AFRICAN AMERICANS What is going to happen to us??????????? 😂😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 IS THERE ANY HOPE FOR THE OUR HUMAN SPECIES.......??????? SAD...... SAD..... 😭 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I had never heard of these awful events before. Although I'm not American I knew that the First Nation's were treated badly and still are in many ways. I had no idea just how terrible it was though. This is horrifying!
I went to Barnes & Noble Book Store when the book David Grann wrote on this 'Killers Of The Flower Moon', came out. . . They should have had a nice pile of copies, but nothings there instead. That's pretty strange.
So I'm Osage I found head right that have not been touched in 100 years but the evil around this is so thick I don't know what way to go. They have done me wrong all my life, every place I've lived has been robbed all my life. Now I see why.
Schools don't teach everything , too much history to cover , not happy of what those murderers did which has nothing to do with the majority of Americans ,but America now is the most beautiful most successful most complete country in the world .. me personally I love America 🇺🇸
Ty❤ my daughter and are finding out.ore on our roots. It's disgusting how we cover up so much of our ugly history. We will be reading book and seeing the movie.
Im so sorry that this happened to the Osage nation. How sad. May the victims rest in peace. Amen 🙏🏼 🌹🕊 The evil that was perpetrated on them is very disgusting. History needs to be kept alive or we are doomed to repeat it.
Our greed is so weird we will kill do anything for earthly ganes we all leave this plain and cross over who would want that on your soul I don't get it
So the book lists a Scott Mathis as a guardian who had 7 deaths under him and he collected their estates after death. Anyone who lives in Oklahoma knows that Mathis name :) Scott Mathis owned a trading store in Osage county. Them Mathis brothers are weird and so was their ancestors. Bet they used that oil money for the Mathis brothers stores
What an evil, awful group of people. As soon as I heard the land had oil, I knew it was bad news for the Osage. I’m so sorry your people were exploited in this way. I grieve for the lives of your people and my own. The same would have been done had black people lived on this land.
And my people, the true Americans are never thought of at all. No ines considers what was done to us and taken from us. All that's ever talked about is slavery. As if that's America's greatest sin. The world over had slavery and still.does. slavery has been in existence from the beginning of man. But uea, we are never discussed
America has a history of Greed Genocide Slavery Mass Deception murder of unborn babies and is an immoral place that is soon going to be a 3rd World Nation . Why people are so eager to live there is beyond me!
One cannot imagine , going to someone land or house and take ownership by murder. When being kind , people share and are welcomed by hospitality , what more could you wish for , the little time you have in your life of learning , until you progress to the next stage . Guess some will never understand the divinity of live is learn to love and you will life forever , if not you vanish like a unknown thing . The earth is full of souls in many shapes and forms awaiting to return and rejoin with their loved ones on earth paradise , the merit will inherit earths paradise . 🕊️ wish many blessing on the tribes , that earth may be ready for their return 🙏🕊️🌟🍀
The story of greed, the enslavement of natives by conquering forces, even genocide has been repeated thousands of times throughout mankind's history, and is not unique to any particular race or religion. It would seem Man has lived in fear of one another since our animating spirits woke up in many different human forms within this Garden of Eden. When you look, do you see other humans, or do you see yourself?
They are right out in the open in the federal government, as well. Only a purge of these evil ones will stop it. Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done. Amen! Thank You , Father.
What an evil history that is. Changing the laws and regulations 100 years later does not help the hapless victims from the 1920s and 1930s that were murdered in such a fiendish way.
Though what happened there was wrong but you people have to face the facts , if it weren't for the white Europeans this country would of been a dump , just like Mexico and a few other Caribbean & south American countries ... I love America 🇺🇸 the way it is
Shocking but altogether not surprised when you take into account the history of the indigenous people with the so-called educated white man. Money and power talks louder than conscience.
Lmao ya because so called "peaceful" indigenous weren't pillaging and raping each other's resources before the white man right? The world was a messed up place back in the day and HUMAN history isn't pretty. Come back from fantasy land
Not in that particular picture but one that has a photo where Canadian Indigenous Women have been harmed. Sacred headwaters Rockefeller in-law ties hurt some of these women under the guise they help Indigenous people which they do not! Sickening colonial bullying by these preying racist bad men
Never trust your enemies, ever (Ecclesiasticus 12:10-16 KJV), this is the mistake many tribes made. Of this prime invaded and attempted to exterminate other tribes, what made them think they were any safer? You should never truth such violent and cunning beasts.
Is started t listen to this as I prepare to fall asleep, but findget so mad after just 6 minutes I have to stop till the morning. For I would be so angry I would never sleep What THE white people have done to this Country is APPALLING!!!!
Why couldn't the white man just leave you alone {and I am white,} I'm infuriated by all the evil that people can bestow upon an other human being regardless their race. AND ALL FOR MONEY... Grrr...
I dunno, why did other different tribes rape pillage and enslave each other ? Why didn't they leave each other alone? Why is it only horrible when a tribe with a different skin color does the same ? I mean the thought in itself is racist. Yes HUMAN history isn't pretty and very TRIBAL. Human history is also full of jealousy for the victors. It is what it is, we should all be happy that things are a lot better today. Tho not perfect, and proly never will be
@@muddyhotdog4103 oh here comes the ” the Indian tribes fought each other therefore our genocide , occupation and land theft wasn’t really that bad “ guy 🤢
@@padajsiloinepravdo6299 here comes the "no its only bad when one group does it and not the other" guy.... It was all bad you douche bag.. The world was a brutal place in history, that's the point
@@muddyhotdog4103 Ohh the classic “ everywhere was equally bad so don’t talk about my garlandpapy’s crimes”. No native tribe committed genocide on the same scale as the Europeans in North America. No native tribe had a huge trans Atlantic slave trade. No native tribe had settler colonialism replacing the population of entire continents. So yeah it’s not really the same is it. Basically you dont want to have to deal with the consequences of the theft and genocide that your society is based on . Let alone return stolen land or redress wrongs . Colonizers in Australia say exactly the same thing. Colonizer 101 😅 butthurt colonizer
Many Native Indians had black and white slaves. Also many Native Indians kidnapped children and women and kept them captive. ALL people do wrongs and sin. There will always be wars too.
Why does it have to be “the white people” that’s a shitty way to categorize them. If all you see is color then you have more of a problem than the men who committed the murders. You act like Native Americans, African Americans, Asian people, Latino people never have committed genocide before. It happens, that’s life. Suck it up.
And America wonders why it just can’t achieve this greatness and #1 spot when everything says we should. Until the blood in the land has been atoned for, America will remain screwed.
Not just Americans but greedy people who look down on the original peoples of all lands. Check out history. Its a story in each continent of this globe. The entitled
I want justice for then all its a shame a shame on my blood a shame on my skin a shame on my so called county a shame on the goverment justice for the men justice for the women for the elders for the children
@@brainxtc2171 i paid my attention, and it looks more like a bunch of angry victimhooded drunks being told they are oppressed by a people doing better than them, so they attack them for having more of a profit. Sounds like socialism to me.
My maternal great-grandfather was raised close to Ft. Sill and Lawton, Oklahoma. We know for certain that his family line contained 1st Nation people who denied they had 1st Nation blood. The relations in Lawton never publicly acknowledged my great-grandfathers family. They are not listed on the Dawes Indian Rolls. Its always been curious to me that we cannot prove the connection. My great-grandfather brought his family to the Texas panhandle in about 1920 and began farming. Im sure he and his extended family knew of the Osage stories of abuse, thievery and murder so possibly this is why they always denied being 1st Nation? They were not of Osage lineage, but from what I can figure, quite possibly Choctaw or Chicasaw. This thought is based on the tribal make up in and around Lawton. However, he knew Comanche, Quanah Parker, when Quanah was an old man.
My maternal grandmother was part Cherokee (raised in Prague, Oklahoma). Family research done a few years ago indicated she was 1/16 while she had said she was 1/4. Interestingly the family member (now deceased) had no official information included. However, I have recently found my grandmother's name on the Indian Census Rolls, listed as Santee Sioux. I've yet to follow up on it but am encouraged the story is truth.
@@GlennaVan If you can trace your bloodline to a Cherokee ancestor on the Dawes Commission Rolls, you will be able to get a CDIB (Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood) through the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. They do not have a blood quantum requirement, as of yet. They are located in Tahlequah OK.
