David Lynch represents the best of the Baby Boomer generation: A rebel attitude, a generally optimistic outlook on life and, most of all, a solid staunch work ethic. No wonder so many of generations X-Z love him and admire him so much!

@@zyaffeeI'm a Millenial and I think I can answer that by simply pointing to the fact that Lynch's work is optimistic, meanwhile modern pop culture is about as vapid, gloomy, and vacuous as anyone in previous times could possibly imagine. Modern media is largely soulless. Say anything you want about Lynch's work but soulless absolutely does not apply. Also his work highlights the dark and light parts of existence, where nowadays media is either straight dark or completely saccharine tripe pretending to be wholesome. TLDR; you just don't see his level of authenticity or optimism in mainstream art anymore.

I used to watch his weather report. He did it for years and often showed off his paintings. It was on its own website, a really tiny, bad quality video and he started this before youtube was even much of a thing. As the weather report did not often match the actual weather in LA I believe he was actually voicing a metaphor for his own mood that day. So brilliant. Apparently he still does it?? @BluJean6692
@BluJean6692 3 года назад
@@yourdad9168 A blessing can be happenstance, it doesn't imply manifest destiny. Wood has certain properties that make it extremely versatile, it's very much a blessing because life as humans know it would be impossible without it, let alone civilization... Just try to imagine a caveman without wood. No spears no fire, no tents. For that matter we're descended from tree-dwelling primates and the global ecology/evolution of the last 400 million years has been heavily influenced by the mere presence of trees (and consequently by the special physical qualities of wood). Without them you just have the bloated swamps of the Devonian. Perhaps you're right after all though now that I think about it: wood isn't a blessing to mankind, it's a blessing to /all/ life!
@irmese06
@irmese06 3 года назад
Yeah wood is a major theme, especially in Twin Peaks. You know how Lynch talks in this video about how you have to translate ideas into a medium? He treats wood as a holy thing in Twin Peaks, because it's the original medium of creativity. You make things with it. Furniture. The walls of the Great Northern. And it comes from nature, so it's close to spirituality, like the Log Lady's log-husband. Doubly-holy.
@BluJean6692
@BluJean6692 3 года назад
WorldChampion I agree! Though just to clarify: its wanton use lies at the opposite extreme but twin peaks clearly has no shortage of trees despite a healthy lumber industry. I think it’s one of those things like meat where you’re free to enjoy it but for the sake of mindfulness have some reverence for the irreplaceable life lost for it...

The way that there is a palpable cohesion in a lot of the imagery, aesthetics, and themes of Lynch’s work is so enriching. Many directors are passionate about what they do, but no director forms these kinds of relationships and a family like David does. Naomi Watts, Laura Dern, Harry Dean Stanton, Kyle MacLachlan, they all appear in many of his works and they all have such positive things to say. He not only cares about making his artistic vision come to life but you can tell her cares about what happens behind the scenes and becomes a father figure or a best friend to many actors. Sure, there are other people like this, but David seems the most compassionate and caring.

Ive become obsessed with him, so many great artists from different mediums get so involved in their own ideas they lose track of their goal in the first place. Lynch creates such terrifying, surreal, and expository movies, but still manages to come off as so genuine and positive in such a charming way. It makes me love his work that much more. There's something to be said for the perpetual pessimism of the jaded artist, but Lynch shows us the dark in the world so we can appreciate the beauty, and it reflects in his personality.

He’s a beautiful human and I hope he’s around for a while longer. I don’t think any human will harbor quite the natural beauty he does after he’s gone. Not just a national treasure but a treasure to the world. Just a pure genuine man. If he spoke for baby boomers, if they were more like him, I feel like the world would love them quite a lot more. I don’t think it’s a generational problem though. I think David is just one of those rare misunderstood angels in life that the world gets once in a great while. He’s truly an inspiration on how to look at life. When given nothing, you can still find that perfect sunny weather and the perfect temperature if you give it enough time and look deep enough. I’m mentally ill from a bad childhood directly caused by boomers and thanks to him, I know the bad doesn’t speak for them all. Love you Mr. Lynch, please keep doing what you do best: being yourself.

There have only been very few truly unique talents like David Lynch. Like any good art in any medium, you see different things every time you look at it. His films and Twin Peaks series are like that. Unfolding, unpacking and discovering the mystery ...or just at the edge of discovering the mystery, which itself is a beautiful process. Lynch is a national treasure. America is so lucky he shared his talents with us at this point in history.
