David Lynch drawing how Transcendental Meditation works, and how to vanish your negative thoughts and energy. This video was created with Excerpts From the Doc: Meditation, Creativity, Peace. All rights reserved for the owner.
I started meditating regularly after my father passed away. I felt so calm. One day i was part of the one. I instantly felt love surrounded me and it was wonderful. I felt a deep connection with everything. The mountain, the people , animal everything. I felt elevated. I knew i was born into heaven.
@@RedBlue-ns5csask a real monk, and the answer to the rest is it's like exercise if you need five times a day and it's not harming you do five times. It's not something you can do so wrong it doesn't work. It's more confronting your inner world then just breathing and whatever.
When I was 17 yrs old in 1978 I really began to struggle as a result of yrs of drug misuse, adolescent angst, poor concentration, parental alcoholism .... the usual. I was basically rescued by TM that year. Today I worked a 12 hour shift in a Toronto emergency department where I have been employed as a registered nurse since 1989. I worked as a paramedic for 8 yrs before the nursing gig. Over 42 years in emergency departments. It has been an eventful , challenging career to put it mildly. But today, at age 63, I still value my work, the work of my many colleagues and the important validity of every one of my patients and personal relationships as much as ever. I am in excellent physical health and also enjoy a well balanced life away from my workplace. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I simply would not have made it nearly this far without TM. I still meditate and would encourage others to explore this further. Mr. Lynch draws it all up very well in this clip. If you're still not convinced, trust the Beatles.
Very true. I myself am a fan of both The Beatles as well as TM. Maybe it's just me. But it seems like the style of the music of The Beatles actually shifted in another direction after they began practicing TM.
Wow, I actually learned TM in 78 also. I’m also 63 now. Unfortunately, I didn’t continue with it, because my brothers girlfriend at the time kept bugging me to tell her my mantra. Unfortunately, I did, then every time after that when I tried to meditate, it made me think of her. My life ended up being fueled by drug and alcohol dependence leading to major depression and guilt. Your path is what I wish I had followed, but I’m definitely inspired to try again. 🙏🏻
I was deep in meditation one day while microdosing. I asked the universe what I was made of and I felt like an electric shock when through my entire body and I felt and saw my connection to the trees and vegetation in my yard and the people in my neighborhood, so much so that it immediately took me out of my deep state of meditation. I guess I got my answer, we are all energy and we are all connected. I will never forget it and it's never happened again. I'm grateful I made it there.

I agree. I'm not the best at explaining things, especially the principles behind TM. This video is a great asset for anyone curious about TM. I started almost five years ago and it's the greatest investment I've ever made.
@@stanlee-eq7lu genuinely curious, what would u reckon it would cost a beginner to learn the official TM technique from an authorized TM instructor, to receive the mantra & be able to practice TM meditation on their own, what would be the minimum expense, 2 to 3 thousand $U.S.? & why would it not be on a sliding scale or is it? I know I could go check their website but just wanted to ask a random commenter(with positive review) for a estimate, thank you sir, in advance🙏🕊
David explains it so well. Everything he's saying is 100% true. It really is the best thing that anyone could ever want to do for themselves and those around them. Meditate and find out for yourself!
@@timendrizzi2180 it's unique to the individual. It'd do you no good to hear his mantra. It's not a phrase or a word necessarily. It's just a trick people use sometimes. Without outer stimulus, your brain begins to think.. focusing on this.. noise.. or whatever, stops you from thinking. Your brain requires stimulus. And you aren't letting it have any. Your body isn't giving it any more info.. so it stops trying to gather any more. Slowly.. your mind forgets it has a body.. and you begin to detatch. So the mind turns inwards. And you are completely awake during this. You make connections and examine things from this persective.. and it changes you. It's sitting around quietly for a few minutes. Whats the risk?
@@timendrizzi2180 this comment made me smile, in a good way. Don't search for anything, there is nothing to find. Nothing from above the surface can take you below the surface, you are what you are looking for. My "technique" per se, whenever I feel "separated" or too stimulated by external factors, I go in by going into a quiet place and focusing on my pulse, progressively.
Ohh my goodness i was numbed while watching it, he put everything in my mind, he made me understand this as Einstein said if you can't teach something to a child, you yourself really don't know it. Absolute perfection, david lynch

@@steffen2165 it's impossible to do anything against nature lol humans are the highest & purest expressions of nature (though very few of us feel that way, part of humanity's sickness) and realizing your inner bliss & connection to the divine is called enlightenment. Like Lynch said, it's one-ness.
The word of God plainly teaches that man is spiritually dead in sins and trespasses against God. This is why the Lord Jesus Christ said “you must be born again”. This is being born from above, meaning of God, by His Spirit. You must be reconciled to God. The bad news is you cannot do this by yourself. And far worse, you stand under the judgement and condemnation of God because of your sin against Him. The good news is the coming of the Son of God in the Person of Jesus. He came as the promised Saviour (Messiah) of the world, the Christ. He took on our human nature to live and die in our place. In His crucifixion, Jesus took upon Himself the judgement we deserve for our sins, paying the price in our place. When He rose again from the dead three days later this was affirmed, just as He and the prophets before Him had said. Now He reigns as Lord and King in heaven and brings salvation to all who call upon His Name. God commands all people everywhere to repent, turning to Him, and to believe in this Saviour. The promise is the forgiveness of sins and eternal life. This is true peace and true joy, in the knowledge of God Himself.
It's so nice to see another person who writes in lowercase, uppercase, and cursive all in the same project. Sometimes I feel like my brain isn't operating properly as I do that so often.
Such a great video. I have been practicing TM since 1978. It is the greatest thing I have ever done for myself in my entire life. I am so grateful. And it made me a better mother. I made sure my daughter learned TM as soon as she was old enough. I get such a kick out of David Lynch. I also love his TV and film work. Blessings to All. Jai Guru Dev.
Just watching this made me feel as if I'd slipped into a parallel dimension for a little while. My whole body resonates with this Truth. And now I have an even deeper level of admiration and respect for this guy.
It took me over 50 years to get it and it's as easy as walking on water! I've never tried transcendental meditation but I know that the bigger secret is to NEVER WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING! 🤗😁💖
Negative emotions are just as important as positive emotions. Don't try and deny these, get comfortable with being uncomfortable and experience them and learn to be one with them. Be mindful with your behavior.
@Matt Rupert Not to butt in *ahem* ... but might i say, acknowledge the emotions, feel them and let them go as Elizabeth said. Then through the intuitive sense feel what the emotion is derived from or what caused it the human perception can go beyond our own experience. At times you may, from no immediate explaination feel an unusual emotion. Explore it you may sense another individuals pain or otherwise strong emotional response. Test your abilities and express yourself, play with them they have a wide variety of utility to the human being if used correctly and or used in response to a problem or again strong emotion.
The simple universal mantra is: "I am not the body (inhale) I am not even the mind (exhale)." I heard this in a guided meditation YT video and I have been using it ever since. And yes, after some long enough time, you can experience all the benefits mentioned in the video.
I got there once, without trying. The extatic feeling lasted several minutes - maybe 5 minutes. I didn’t want to move in case the feeling went away. Gradually it faded. I would do anything to get that feeling back. Indescribable extacy feeling - connectedness to everything.
Something happened to me when I was meditating. I felt like I was slipping to another place and I liked it until a face appeared basically right on top of my own face, staring straight at me, and it scared the shit out of me and I opened my eyes and got ripped straight back into the real world. Has anything like that happened to you while you were meditating? I knew that the face was thinking "what the fuck are you doing here." And it was more animalistic than human but it certainly had the intelligence of a human.
To explain what cant be explained but only expiereienced directly, (like in the example of the donout) is an art in itself. Imagine a world where this is taught in school…
Half my life ago I was so happy. I practiced TM ritually. I loved life. Then, life hit me. Car wreck left me disabled, I saw abuse of animals and of each other, my income went from $200k to zip, lost my job and home, became homeless with 3 dogs one of whom died of cancer while living in my van. Sure wish I could find that bliss again. I've tried yoga, TM, all kinds of therapy, all kinds of treatments, all kinds of alternate healing, yet I can't find the way back to happiness. I'm in my 60's and life has become really sad. I think security and money in the bank helps a lot. I didn't used to think this way, but I wonder now, was I really happy before, or did I just have what I needed to live comfortably?
Wow, thank you for sharing. I am skeptical of Lynch's teachings here especially because the beginning part about quantum physics is just wrong, doesn't make sense. And yea, you know, when was the last time you saw a guru or spiritual teacher that didn't have a comfortable living? Man does not live one bread alone, but man does not live on spirit alone either.
You practiced meditation, but did you understand it's source? Sure, we need food as human beings, but where do we go when none is left? Anyhow, I surely wish you good health and happiness wherever your path leads you. Check in with Peter Levine and a community maybe? The community is the ultimate form of security for most human beings.
Understand your thoughts, thanks for sharing. Maslow reckoned we all need some things to make the best of our lives; security and shelter are big parts. We also don't tend to be ready for changes, and as life progresses our relationships with others change and like you've illustrated, times can get tough, sometimes really tough. It might be that you've got a book to write? It may even be a counterpoint to the 'things get better if you do xyz' happiness culture. It may be if you retrace your story, the things that you view as happy then, may have a different tone. Sell your story, maybe make a few pennies and and see what others think.. whatever happens, I know that hope and despair are next door neighbours and they borrow bread and milk from each other. They never really live alone.
*5 seconds into the video* David Lynch: This is a donut. Me: My life has changed forever. Thank you David, for having such a profoundly large impact on my life. I can rest easy now.
Jesus Christ, it was just a joke people. Sounds like you all need some meditation for yourselves, because you seriously shouldn’t be this angry over a simple joke.
I love it. Davids voice, the subtle background music and the black and white picture are creating an magical atmosphere that slowly soak you in that explanation. Meditation is the "key" let's use it!
I love David Lynch! His movies are confounding and fantastic! I’m a meditator and have been for about 10 years. What he’s saying is absolutely true. Meditation can change your life. It has changed mine from alcohol and drug addiction to freedom from those things and more.

Yeah that’s basically what it is but in my experience it’s a little more accurate to say it’s the difference between knowing and understanding. We know we should be kind to one another but for some people they might ask why? This would be the understanding part and it’s because you are one with the world around you. You, your friend and enemies are all you. You wouldn’t want to hurt yourself right? So why hurt a tree, why hurt your enemy both of which are you on a fundamental level.

I had an experience once while in deep meditation. Suddenly i felt like someone is watching me, it was very strong feeling. And then i felt a presence of someone incredibly huge and majestic, but it wasn't evil or thrilling in any was, quite the opposite - it was friendly, warm, loving. And then another sensation came, it's hard to describe, but my consiousness decodes it as "I SEE YOU". And then i came back to reality. I will never forget that.
Seriously.. I saw a clip of this video on TikTok, laying down…and accidentally slipped off. I then found myself with my phone taking pictures of my front garden of a house with beautiful columns. a place where the dogs of my past were there. I was listening to this video subconsciously because the reel kept repeating itself. I touched there fur. I felt it. They were so happy to see me.. the place was so perfect and detailed..beautiful. I saw the sky… it had a few clouds in the distance I mentioned a good rain for the garden is coming… being a light sprinkle… I told Barry and the dogs it is time to go inside… we all went in and I realized I wanted to hug the dogs in this place I said to them “I am thinking of you always”and “we will be together again soon and I will try and return again.” Then I opened my eyes. I started to lay back down and do it again… the place was blissful. Max and Biscuit… my pet friends… missed but I know I will do this again many times. Then at this earthly death we will be together and one again
Carl Jung was laughed out of academia and not a single reasonable person in social sciences, psychology, or neuroscience would even consider bringing up his name as evidence or in support of anything. in fact you can tell who has higher education in the area by whether they bring Jung up or not, other than as a historical anecdote. Jung is not someone considered credible. He is a pop-psychology icon, a historical figure that had an important role in how we think about the mind, and nothing else.
🧑🏫-For anyone that reads this comment-It has taken me over 6 and 1/2 years to uncover a video that best describes in scientific terms what it is like to transcend human consciousness and gain biblical enlightenment! I have watched hundreds of videos on numerous online sites and this is the only video that even comes close to describing such a life-altering event. In 2018 I was going to end my life for the 3rd and final time. 3 days before my planned suicide, with my gear and suicide note ready I started practicing martial arts again. I started meditating intensely, eating healthy and eliminating some of my human sins so this way I would be more able to leave this reality with a clean conscious. During one of my deep meditative sessions I achieved what was described in this video. I have not lied In almost 7 years. After my "spiritual event" I immediately entered into military training mode by mimicking dozens if not a few hundred videos I'd accumulated over decades of computing. I lost 150lbs in 11 months. I read dozens of books four times as much as I had ever read in my entire life. My physicality, personality, mental state and emotions were all altered by this experience. I no longer fear death AT ALL. If I'm being honest,I'm looking forward to it in the next 40 to 50 years. Until then I Must live my life in accordance with the visions of my "higher Self" that was given to me. No go learn how to meditate for 30 minutes a day for at least a decade. 😇☯️🧘☯️🥷
This is the most beautiful and accurate explanation of my own experiences with meditation over the last two years. When you achieve this state, the inner light and truth is laid out before you. The feeling of fullness and bliss is indescribable, and all doubt in higher conciousness is simply removed. It is profound and life changing and can only be understood by experiencing it. No god bothering, organised mainstream religion that is merely an extension of darkness control will ever deliver this whole truth, and it can not be fully articulated verbally by those who have experienced it.. Individual spirituality through meditation is key! Peaceful travels.

makes you realise why the higher powers in the world keep us all believing that we are different, if we were all at peace, nobody in particular would have power over the people
@Matthew Minors - the Higher Powers don't keep us believing that we're different. Human Free Will does that. Human Free Will does that through manipulating the messages of the Churches, saying: "We are right, and they are wrong." God (the Creator) never said anything about "Right or Wrong" - He gave us the rules and said: "You have Free Will to choose how to create your life." All Faith, in the end, points back to God, or Source, or the Creator, or the Higher Powers.

Meditation has proven effects on the brain, and is highly recommended. The 'Transcendental' aspect of meditation really is an attempt to describe the sensations of light and space in our head when doing meditation. This is very calming and really alters your overall experience. The particular meditation David Lynch does is repetition of a word or 'mantra', but the first and most basic meditation is to focus on your breathing. That is called 'Prana' , the breath and life-force. No need for anything external to be introduced.
I heard that meditation on your breath(prana) is a better meditation than transcendental, which focuses on a mantra connected to your external reality. What do you think?
The "transcendental" aspect of TM refers to the experience of pure consciousness, which is beyond thought and feeling. It transcends relativity. It is Beyond. It is the Absolute, the Unbounded, the Source, course and Goal of all evolution and progress in life. It goes far beyond any vague feelings of "spaciousness". Meditation techniques that focus on breathing are vainly attempting to mimick the physiological effects of transcending during TM. These techniques confuse the Path with the Goal. It is noticed that breathing naturally comes to a standstill during TM and they try to copy that by focusing on the breathing. Needless to say, for most people, this is counterproductive!
I have alot of good effect of meditation but it has also made my anxity worse or made me feel like " fear is a magnet" it makes me to senseble where i react to every sound every this and that, it has good effects but it made some of my worrying ( at night) when you hear a random sound etc made me more anxious for " bringing up all the anxity" and me not being able to deal with it, and thats not always a good thing, ... i would say, do it in moderation spesially if you are very sensetive as a person ( no offence to meditation, its better to meditate then to do nothing of course, i still meditate 10min a day.)
@@bryanbenson6551 transcendental meditation doesn't focus. Maharishi called it "The Technique of No Technique". Focusing holds the mind on the relative level. The point is to transcend that. You won't do that by focusing on anything... breath, mantra, heartbeat ...
A lot of fluffy lovely words and notions in this video but mostly without much meaning. Meditation does not need silly " magical words" given by "mystical gurus". Trying to achieve states of "bliss consciousness" through repeating mantras is a diversion from the path of coming to see the mind as it really is. Bliss and joy etc are just tempting but ultimately illusory mental/emotional conditions, to be recognised and then let go off. That is my understanding. Plus, I don't trust an organisation that guards its "magic words" and only grants people access at a price. I'm glad that modern psychology is sorting out the ancient techniques that are valid and verifiable from those that are mixed up in mystical mumbjumbo like TM. Still, if it works form you and helps you live a peaceful and compassionate life, then that is great!
You should go for it. I started the TM course one week ago because of Lynch and it blew my mind how quickly and powerfully I noticed a difference. And I've tried literally hundreds of different meditations, healing modalities, natural remedies etc. It's the real deal

I have learned small bits and pieces of this information overtime from so many sources (I’m a humanities major lmaooo) and recently I had an experience that was quite shocking. I had a period of about a month where my mind was flooded with ideas that seemed way out of my league. Things about math and physics. And one day trying to quote my mind I started to say out loud “wake up, wake me up, we’ve got a lot of work to do” over and over in the shower. I kept saying it as I got changed. I think I must have had some taste of this transcendental meditation on accident. Cause I went to walk my dog in the park immediately after and I felt soooooo different. I couldn’t even begin to explain. It’s what made me start searching Google in the first place which lead me here.

I’ve only fallen into a transcendental state through lsd a few times. What’s so strange and difficult about that is your Atma or true self is very apparent, but the truth is you’re not really earning it through acid. The only way to truly achieve it is to earn it through self reflection and meditation. The reason everyone says the feel this on acid though is because it shows you what’s actually possible within yourself, but it’s your job to reach out and grab it. After all it’s all atoms
I'm trading with expert Mrs Galia Benartzi , a regulated broker in the US. Met her sometime early last year at a startup funding event. She has some interesting things to say about the state of algorithmic trading today. Very obviously I'm seeing the results
@Cody John Wow what a coincidence, you invested with Mrs Galia Benartzi also.? I also trade with her I get to earn a big weekly trading income of $28,000 pioneered by Mrs Galia Benartzi
"Everyone has consciousness. Everyone can achieve limitless awareness and peace." Everyone except the boom mic operator blocking the chart of infinite happiness and creativity...
The 'white light' is something you have to experience to believe. It's a state of TM where you find yourself in an ocean of endless brilliant white light. It stretches inward and outward forever. You feel as though you are traveling faster than light itself. It's warm and beautiful beyond description. The inner energy of your nervous system literally connects with the boundless outer universe and you're traveling! Yet you return completely rested with a profound feeling of well being. It's not sex or psychedelics or sleep. It's a natural state of being. It's real!
Consciousness or Enlightenment can't be bought, consciousness or awarenes is not from the mind. So it was not an explaination of consciousness as it doesn't have attributes. It's from the "heart" and no money can manufacture this, you have it already (tat tvam ási). If someone tries to sell this manufactured consciousness to you know it to be a cult and/or scam. #All you need is love
So well explained . I understand it much better now. I've been listening to the audio book I AM THAT. The more I listen the clearer it becomes. Thanks for the video. The world would change for better if more people understood that.
Recently I watch a lot of videos about enlightenment, but I've noticed that I never grateful for that. So I want to say Thank You David Lynch. I'm so glad that people share this knowledge. Let's hope humans will not extinct any soon.
This is a total and complete treasure.... thank you so much for sharing your vision of this state of being that all of us can reach if we do the work :)
I don’t care about meditation after a whole lifetime of trying to get into it, but hearing David talk about anything he’s into is meditative. So this is a win-win.
We ran home from school to watch it back in the 90’s. Few years back I rewatched it and loved it again. If I had to choose, I’d say the best show ever.
"You get to a point where you wouldn't hurt another person. It would be like hurting yourself". I'm often at that level. It's not just empathy. It's really feeling the pain you would be causing the other person, as if you were that person.
TM is the best thing ive spend money on.. people are complaining about it not being free. what they dont realize is that its actually great value for money. For one payment you have the most incredible tool FOR LIFE. People that teach TM do it FULL TIME, they need to make a living, that's all it pays for. there's no dodgy cult leader in a crystal palace driving flash cars. But thats just me, i can understand why people are cynical, but honestly if by some way i lost the TM technique id pay double to re learn it and have it in my life again.
I completely agree. And for that one time fee (which was on a sliding scale) My TM teacher spent many one on one sessions with me, sharing her wisdom and guidance. I think hour per hour I've paid hairdressers more for their time.
Been meditating weekly since August 19' and it's changed my life. I'm able to transcend more frequently and can easily calm down my fight or flight system and take control of my emotions. Joe Dispenza is the modern wizard, I recommend any of his guided meditations. And no, you're not going to transcend your first handful of times unless you're already quite mindful. It takes practice to get there. The world wouldn't be what it is if everyone meditated daily.
I wish I had a clear idea of what people mean when they say they transcend. That would make it easier to know whether I've done it ... or not.. I'm goin to Google it, but I'd welcome any input
Elisabeth Seaton hi friend, let me try to help :) it can be confusing to grasp and explain but let me try. My favorite way to transcend is through yin yoga, an ancient Chinese form of meditation based stretching. In the beginning, when I would ‘transcend’, it was more mild than it is now. I would get into a very comfortable state of being that could be described as bliss or joy and I would lose track of time as well as a sense of self. Now, there’s been times where I’m in a final savasna pose, and I radiate with the most intense pleasure and joy, and I can’t tell where the connection of my body meets the ground, it feels like I am one with the whole universe and am infinite. It’s like the senses that give your brain input to let you know you’re in the physical world go away and now somehow you could feel the entire universe inside of you. There’s no struggle to be in this place, and there’s no thought about it, it’s only an experience, an awareness, an appreciation. When you come out of it, you feel re-born, new, highly aware, patient, compassionate, loving, kind, and amazingly good. The trick is, realizing it’s not a destination, but already there, and always there. Well I lie, the biggest challenge is wrestling with the brain until it understands you’re in control and listens to you when you decide to meditate. In the beginning this can be torture for many people, including myself. With that said, it has helped me more with trauma and accepting myself than any therapy has. Hopefully this helps Elizabeth! Enjoy
In 1972 I was a college freshman studying philosophy. One day after a class a dude pulled me aside and asked me if I’d be interested in learning transcendental meditation. It was like a two week course that culminated with me receiving my mantra. Lynch’s presentation was maybe the clearest, most accessible summation of transcendental meditation I’ve seen. I found transcendental meditation to be beneficial and useful despite the devolution of the movement into a creepy cult. Over the years my meditation practice has evolved. As a lay Theravada Buddhists my primary practice is mindfulness. Transcendental meditation gives you a taste of the infinite but it’s conditioned and transitory. Mindfulness takes you beyond the conditioned.
This also makes everyone around you subconsciously threatened by you. Even without a noticeable change, for some reason, the better I felt inside, the worse everyone treated me.
Attaining peace is difficult for most of us. So we all wallow in our misery since it's easy and when you happen across a positive happy person in your life you wanna bring him down to your own level since your ego is threatened by his attainment.
What he says is the absolute truth. Once you get to that place that is no thing, yet everything. All potential. Your life and truth starts to unfold. Things you’ve never thought or imagined will open in ways beyond words. That is why each of us must seek. Only by experience do you know and the knowing will change our world. 💡💡💡💡💡💡🌎🌟
Having gone to Maharishi University of Management, I feel both that many of the people involved seem rather cult like and others seem business oriented, but the practice itself has had such a profound impact on my life. Some of the things Maharishi said may seem dubious to me, but boy am I grateful for his technique. One needn’t believe in chopra-Esque pseudoscience about physics and consciousness to enjoy all the fruits of a daily practice like TM.
As an Indian Hindu I agree, dont go into all the verbal bells and whistles. If the practice helps to calm your mind and shifts your perspective from selfish to universal, do it as a practice. We Hindus dont go into these discussions at all, because we are used to living it. You will notice there is a very little violence in India compared to the amount of people and poverty and historic attacks and injustices from within and outside. We also carry a huge baggage of being an old civilization (there are still isolated forest tribes), and yet from inventing vaccines to space program, we are there. It was never a problem to be an atheist here. But just outside India, where Buddhism and Hinduism has been removed, see the condition. Same people, yet different outcome. They invented atom bomb, suicide squad but didnt invent vaccine. The philosophy of non duality deserves all the credit. So the thought counts, not any cultish allegiance.
