Aww I love David. When I was in hospital the OT took me to do some baking one afternoon and I was to make cupcakes. The recipe called for only egg yolks and to discard the egg whites. I don’t like wastage so I asked if we could make something with the whites. Because I only had limited time in the kitchen the two staff with me decided to make a meringue with the whites, only we didn’t have a machine whisk so they whipped it by hand... The whites were nowhere near ready when we were running out of time so the staff put it in the oven and hoped for the best. In the meantime the OT found some grapes in the fridge that were nearing their expiration date and offered them to myself and the HCA on my obs. The HCA told us that he doesn’t eat any fruit or vegetables as he has a fear of them. The OT tried to get him to eat a grape but to no avail. Eventually the meringue was to be taken out the oven but what emerged was what can only be described as a grey sludge. It looked ghastly. The OT suggested adding food colouring to make it look more appetising, so she put in PINK AND GREEN. The result was now a grey and brown sludge with the occasional green and and pink spot where it hadn’t mixed. Defeated the OT was going to throw it away, but the HCA who didn’t eat fruit or vegetables decided to eat it. And he liked it! 😂 (OT: occupational therapist, HCA: healthcare assistant, obs: basically a staff member who follows you around everywhere)

Joe: “The comic relief bakers are raring to crack on!” The bakers: “NO NO. I’m not going back” *Oh the sarcasm!*

Having watched lots of "Cake Rescues" over on the How to Cook That channel, I suspect the issue with the shortbread at the start was simply that they hadn't had long enough to cool entirely. The heat melted the cream and caused them to collapse and slide off, but the idea should actually work perfectly!
