I like how Colonel Brandon came to Marianne’s aid in this version. She was just publicly humiliated but he still came to her and let everyone see him be associated with her. He didn’t care how it looked or if it affected his own reputation, the only thing that mattered to him was helping her. 😍

I absolutely adore David as Colonel Brandon. He is fantastic in it, just as Alan Rickman is also

Oh that moment when he realise Marianne is falling for Willoby is so heart wrenching. Especially when you see how alive he look first visits them and gives her some music and his happiness at seeing her well. David Morrissey did a fantastic job in this. I wish there could have been more scenes of him and Marianne at the beginning before willoby arrived just showing that Marianne did like him but didn't know it herself.

This is what I liked about this adaptation, that Marianne seemed to like Brandon. Unlike both the book and the other versions, where she was dismissive at best and rude at worst to him. I know that was accurate, but I preferred seeing her liking him initially. Perhaps 'cause it makes sense how that friendship eventually turns into love as their relationship progresses.

Colonel Brandon is such a wonderful man, full of honesty honor, and true love for Marianne.

Why on earth would they make Colonel Brandon so damn good looking in this. Just so bloody hard to understand why Marianne didn't fall in love with the Colonel at first sight. David Morrissey is just so incredibly swoon-worthy.

because he's in his late 30s, and as far as she's concerned once you're older than 25 you can't ever feel or inspire romantic love. She's an affectionate and lively young woman but very very opinionated and refuses to listen to second opinions or to see things from other people perspective

Ooooooh, I've never seen this version: he's beautiful! Almost as beautiful as Alan Rickman: both are stunning and pure.

At 1:36 and onward the micro expressions on Morrissey's face are just genius, first an open joy at seeing Marianne, then confusion at greeting rival Willoughby and the finale of grief at the realization that M and W are an item. Makes me want to cry for Brandon.
@CrazyGood88
@CrazyGood88 13 лет назад
David's mute expressions rivals that of Alan Rickman. I love them both as actors and as men but when it comes to Col. Brandon I choose both of them. They each bring something to the character that is sigh-worthy ;-)

Haha it's so bizarre to look back at a comment you made nearly a decade ago. I was young and naive then. Mr Rickman's Colonel Brandon is an absolute gem and I love him.

Dominick Cooper is a really good actor, and I know a lot of people think he's hot, but... honestly, I think he looks like a Chihuahua. Bug-eyed and ill-proportioned. David Morrissey is DEFINITELY better-looking.

It's not so easy to say who is better colonel... Firstly I was shocked because the first Brandon I've seen was Alan Rickman - and I fell in love with his Brandon inmediately :) But now I must admit that David Morrissey also did a great job. They both are good and it depends on each of us who we prefer. So for me it's still AR... but if I didn't know him I can imagine very well to favour DM.

Started the vid just with my fave situation with Brandon - she falls and he's right there for her. What a nice strong man to catch her... I wished someone would pick me up like that if I fainted :-)
@CCC-rd3gc
@CCC-rd3gc Год назад
my father did that once. At that time I was already over 20 years old. I fainted. and my mom later told me how he saw that I was sick and rushed to me as fast as he could. he managed to catch me and didn't let me hit my head. I am very grateful to him for this act. When I woke up on the floor, Dad was next to me and held me in his arms.

Yeah, that devilish frown looks very good on Morrissey. On the side note, I'm very happy that there's another David-fan :D! Most people like Rickman and detest Morrissey (very weird, it's nothing wrong to like both, right?)...

Though Alan Rickman had made a fantastic job in the 1995 version, this 2008 version is awesome also. David Morrissey portrayed Colonel Brandon perfectly, a gentleman, charming. It saddened me that Colonel Brandon and Marianne didn’t kiss at the end, but she kissed Willoughby😤. Colonel Brandon is so much better than Willoughby.🤗 Love the look he gives Willoughby when he was supporting Marianne (You are so doomed my friend).😊
@soniavadnjal7553
@soniavadnjal7553 3 года назад
Of course, Brandon knows about Willoughby's immoral past. He could have chosen to ruin W's reputation if he wanted, but he doesn't, and only tells Elinor about it when Marianne falls ill, so that she wouldn't regret losing the completely untrustworthy W.
@CCC-rd3gc
@CCC-rd3gc Год назад
yes, it's a bit of a pity that there wasn't a kiss, but it's even better for comparison. the first relationship is full of passion rather, and the second is full of genuine feelings - care, respect, true tenderness

@CeruleanFairy (finalization xD): And both is alright! I'm not sure which of them acted Brandon more like Jane Austen's Brandon was (it's so long I've read the book) but I will always prefer Alan Rickman for his shy and gently expression...♥
@Aiglea
@Aiglea 15 лет назад
Well, David Morrissey also did a great job. I've seen both versions (1995 and this one) and both Brandons are very good. I'm a Rickman-fan and I've never heard of David Morrissey before (well, not untill I've wachted the 2008 version). But, to tell you the truth, I like Morrissey's version more than Rickman's version. It could have been that I've wachted the 2008 version before the 1995 version. I'm really frustrated, but if I have to choose, I will pick David.

With regard to some of the comments here about the age difference..Brandon's 35 when he meets Marianne and she's 17. They marry when she's 19 and by then she has done a lot of growing up. Firstly, due to the family's loss of position, secondly because of having to navigate the duplicity and stupidity of neighbours and her brother etc and finally due to her disappointment with Willoughby. As for the Colonel, certainly he's initially attracted to her because she reminds him of his first love. The girl he lost, but eventually she proves to be stronger and more resilient than that past love and he then loves and respects her for herself. Its Marianne's initial views on such an attachment thar I struggled to accept as natural in someone who has had Marianne's life experience. She treats a romantic attachment between a younger woman and older man as not possible, yet her own parents had just such a marriage and her mother was her father's much younger second wife. And they were obviously very attached. Surely she's the last person to therefore have such a view? I thought at first when I started to read the book that it was prompted by her father leaving her mother a still relatively young widow but there's nothing I recall her saying that confirmed my initial suspicion.
@Aiglea
@Aiglea 13 лет назад
@VoraciousLime Hehehe, my thoughts exactly! It was supposed to be the other way, in the novel: Willoughby should have been very, very handsome, charming and full of passion, while Brandon was not-so-handsome, conservative and controlling and restraining his true feelings. I find John's actor dull and not attractive. Morrissey, on the other hand... yum, yum!!

I love this version of S&S...David Morrisey did a wonderful job. I also love the S&S with Alan Rickman...loved Greg Wise in the older version as well. I thought Emma Thompson was a bit too old to play Elinor but I think she is a wonderful actress. As for older version versus new versions I love 95 P&P over the newest...not the biggest fan of KK. I love both Persuasions equally though. Love both KH and RPH as Capt Wentworth.

@CeruleanFairy That's interesting :-)) This is so nice about art: There's NO truth and NO lie. Because everything is about our own emotions! Everyone can choose things he likes for himself and nobody can say: No, you're not right. You can see "your" Brandon in David Morrisay and I can see "my" Brandon in Alan Rickman :-)

@CeruleanFairy: You wrote "This is so nice about art: There's NO truth and NO lie. Because everything is about our own emotions!" Respectfully, I must disagree. Good actors strive very hard to embody truth. Dishonesty is anathema to a true artist, whether actor, writer, painter, etc. Perhaps you meant to speak from the audience/viewer's perspective to say one may like whatever one likes. That is empirically evident. But from the artist's point of view, truth is absolutely fundamental.

в фильме с Хью Грантом дубляж был не удачный, особенно полковника Брендона чудовищно продублировали на русский. мне оба фильма нравятся по-разному. и там и там есть к чему придраться. но в целом они оба очень хороши.

Col. Brandon >>>> Darcy. This is the pettiest hill I will die on.
@m3rl1n4
@m3rl1n4 Год назад
I'll gladly join you on the hill. Brandon was the first Austen male character I fell for, thanks in great part to Alan Rickman's performance. David Morrissey's pretty much solidifed my love for Brandon. I understand why most women prefer Darcy (thanks, Colin Firth), but I find myself feeling mostly identifying with his personality more than feeling an attraction, perhaps 'cause I'm a awkward introvert like him. LOL Anyway, I'm definitely a Brandon fangirl myself, and lately I found myself becoming a Knightley one after reading Emma.
