I just love how he smiles so big at the end... like so glad yall liked it... he's my absolute favorite male vocalist ever!

I know he's a tenor not an opera singer, but this is the version I love the best. Such passion and voice control. Amazing

I was lucky enough to see David Phelps perform this during a Gaither concert, and I mean I cried almost the entire time, it was amazing, you could hear a pen drop in that arena

His version is so different than Pavarotti's. They can't be compared, both are masterpieces with different styles and interpretation. The only thing I can say is that this man is so INCREDIBLY TALENTED and his voice is totally mastered, refined technique, feelings. OMG. I can't describe how GREAT his singing is!!!!

Exceptional! He sings it conversationally, with real pauses and emphasizing particular words and phrases. And he's not afraid of being delicate if need be.

Opera buffs will hate hate this, however most opera singers wish they could sound like this. David Phelps is literally one of the best tenors on the planet.

When David performed this officially for the first time in Orlando, FL, he actually STUNNED the audience into SILENCE for the first 4 seconds after the last note, until they then EXPLODED out of their seats with wild cheering, whistling and clapping, I know--I was there!

I've heard this sung by so many people, including Luciano Pavarotti. This is still my favorite version. ❤️ 2022, I'm still listening ❤️❤️

Best male vocalist in the world today...any genre. I have seen him live 10 times now, with several of those from the front row. Going again this coming Friday in Virginia. Josh Groban is really good, Andrea Bocelli is great but none of them compare to this mans amazing talent.

A standomg ovation from the audience is good enmough, but also a standing ovation from the other singers behind him...and fully deserved. Absolutely fantastic.

There is nothing greater than being able to play this at full volume in a park in Milan Italy and have people so much appreciate the version by David Phelps!!!!

IMO, David executes every note with a heavenly essence, while Pavarotti delivers a song about heavenly love. I love them both so much, I couldn't love either more than the other.

Pavarotti’s performance of this blows my mind and was the only one that truly moved me every time I heard it... until I heard this. Phelps is truly something special!

I was at this concert when I was a kid.. I was with my grandmother Lee Glover she took me to see David Phelps and the gather vocal band multiple times over the years.. sadly cancer took her a few years ago..I cherish those moments with her and know one day I will see her again.. miss you momom your grandson Michael❤

this is just my opinion as a trained opera singer also myself who sings other music also. The opinion of most opera people is to sing a song directly as written and make your voice sound 30 years older than you are. david phelps on the other hand is actually using the technique which the italian word implies. Opera literally means open mouth or throat. if anyone is trained to correctly sing in our age it is this man. and he isn't vain and singing for himself.

Wow, I just never get tired of hearing David sing. I know that Pavarotti is a legend but I prefer David's interpretation of this classic. I get chills listening to this every single time, God bless you David! Your mastery and control is superb, and the fact you're singing in a foreign language is not lost on me either. What an inspiration you are.

the funniest part of this video is when David hits the high note (climax) of the song. if you look behind him, you can see Mark and Michael's face. it was priceless.

David is a coloratura tenor so his ability to tell the story being told in this dramatic aria is quite beautiful and believable. His vocal ability comes along once or twice in a life time and it makes me happy to know I can go to You Tube and listen to him anytime I want.

The look on David's face is precious. He's beaming with pride. Oh, not arrogant pride! No, the pride of a man who has given his best to those he wanted to bless. I found it to be beautiful. PERHAPS Pavarotti could have done it better...perhaps. But he could not match David's heart and humility. Bravo, David!

So I just went to listen to Pavarotti Nessum Dorma again. Now back to David. Pavarotti is very good, but David's rendition was so heartfelt, soulful, beautiful. Brought me to tears. I remember seeing David in concert when he first started with Gaithers. I remember, at first, being disappointed that I didn't get to hear Jonathon Pierce (Gaithers then-tenor); but then I fell in love with David's voice and have been since. What set's David apart is that he gets better and better, unlike most professional singers who reach a plateau. What an inspiration!

I thought Oh Holy night was the performance he would be known for, but then I heard this! An opera voice as beautiful as any on a Bill Gaither show stage. It's angelic. Imagine what heaven will sound like with perfect angelic voices like this praising God!

-continued, where most pop singers must move the voice to the head, Pavarotti is singing in only ONE REGISTER. Top to bottom, his head and chest are fully connected. It produces resonance, and the dark and light part of the voices come out in full brilliance. Hearing voices like this without any aid of technology is incredible.

A little "gospel" technique into a beautiful classic. You don't have to be "trained" in opera to be "filled up" from this performance. Clearly, Mr. Phelps has spent his life performing and blessing people with his gift. It looks effortless. No need to compare to other performers. They are all wonderful.

He will judge us, and because we have all broken His law, we ALL deserve hell. Davids got the pipes for it. It is diffrent, very well presented and would make those of us who is not operaticly inclined listen to this. Excellent.

I'm usually pretty snobby about people singing opera in their own style but.. this is good.

My wife and I have seen him live three times, one of those times he did this song. We got our picture taken with him as well, he wasn't feeling good and was nursing his voice, but was still SO gracious to all those who wanted a photo with him. Awesome voice on this brother.

While I know this is not up to what professionals see as "Opera voice". I think this version gives it more of a human feeling. Like a move version more real.

There is more heart in this rendition than any other version I have heard. More human. Incredibly good!

Choose an apt reply of your choice a) different strokes for different folks; b) different styles/interpretations/strengths that Pavarotti & Phelps bring to "Nessun Dorma;" I like David's better as it strikes a Spiritual chord of resonance within me more so than Pavarotti's. Just me (et al?!), perhaps. Acoustics, pace/timing, and just......"that night, that place, that voice....." can make the "deciding factor" for many of us, subjective as it is. Yet, methinks it spurious to compare a classical genius/powerhouse like Pavarotti to Phelps or to anyone else. "They are.....whom GOD (the Greatest of all Beings "seen" & "unseen;" Whom grants these Gifts we hear and discuss freely....) made them to be, doing what they were apparently born and blessed to do. Blessed is HE, compared to most of humanity, who don't know what its like to be living/walking/talking/singing w/in the wonderful, amazing realm of Shalom, moment by moment w/out sinning or "missing a beat." Same can be said of "lessor knowns" such as David Phelps and others. who get to reach/teach/enlighten others Pavarotti doesn't & couldn't, per "his "style and audience" as it were, without missing HIS "beat" intended, for that time and place. How beautiful is that... I have no idea what he was singing (words), but it brings tears to my eyes. It's so beautiful. I have heard opera singers renditions and David holds his own.

This performance is horrible, compared to Franco Corelli this sucks. In many parts he seems to be out of breath, he has no projection because he is amplified. If he had sung without the microphone no one would have heard him. and finally, the diction. I am italian and i can say that his diction is rather mediocre.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you RU-vid opera “experts” have people pay money to hear you and, most importantly, have venues filled with hundreds or thousands of people give you standing ovations night after night for twenty years for your performances? I have watched this a few times now and I could not understand what made me not enjoy this as much as I have in David,'s other songs? Then it realised the problem is within his phrasing and timing.
