David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks - radio interview (1991) (Part 1/2) 

Some of you all have a bad image of David but David was a very smart intelligent man and he was a god-fearing man and you can tell it in a lot of his music that's why I love him, he wasn't a dumb man that's for sure.

Two of the greatest of all time there will never, never be another Eddie Kendrick or David Ruffin.

I wish that both David and Eddie would have written their memoirs and really told their side of the story.

You people are taking what David said out of context. He didn't say that he felt like Michael Jackson, he was comparing to mj as far as leaving the temps and pursuing a solo career. Michael did the same thing and left the Jackson 5 and did his own thing, and he was beyond successful. Thats all David was trying to say, Jesus! Let this man rest!

Ruffin and Kendrick both went to their graves with untold mysteries surrounding their departures from the Temps. So I can not say that David was fired, which to me has no relevance whatsoever concerning his leaving. Eddie kept his peace also. Men of their standards have to be respected by myself because they did not play to the public for publicity when they were not performing on stage or releasing their wonderful music. For this interview to open saying that Genna Ruffin was David's wife is wrong from jump street, David only had one wife and her name is Sandra Ruffin, she is probably more of a perfect partner for David than he knew. Her being humble and meek about David Jr. & his mother's international disrespect for her daughter's father shows how much woman she truly is. RIP David and Eddie.

I am glade I got a chance to hear David and Eddie last interview in the U K Which was in Southport England which was they last Interview together David was very smart person and very intelligent and also Eddie and when they got with the Temptations and more town given them a contract they really did know music business and that is why they didn’t get the money that should have gotten and that why they died broke should have been millionaires they both was Icon and they both left a legacy and body of music that last to the end of time for our grandchildren listen to they both was my favorite lead singer s of the Temptation’s five back in1960 I will all ways remember them as long as I live the greatest guys that ever pick up a microphone 🎤🎶🎶🎶❤️❤️🌹🌹🙏🏾👏👍RIP

The cream rises to the top and its a great shame that these super stars were not given more opportunity as they had the most amazing talent Eddie & David both had unique sounding voices and could never be replaced..I went off the temptations when they were gone ..Not forgetting Paul & Denis they were also superstars..the rest ? well forget it they were going no where till Eddie & Paul then David joined the Temptations.

Eddie reportedly never did like the Temptations changing to the "Psychedelic" sounds with "Cloud Nine," and "Psychedelic Shack," even though Cloud Nine brought them their first Grammy. You can tell towards the end on this clip where he blamed it all on the producers, and the group simply were caught up in the battle and had to go where they wanted them to go. This was undoubtedly the beginning of the end for Eddie, and he would eventually leave the group two years after Cloud Nine came out

I remember that show night train. In the 90s no doubt! This is Before he died probably maybe early 1991.

Everyone needs to know this: Genna Sapia was NEVER MARRIED to David Ruffin. She was an on/off girlfriend who assumed his last name AFTER David Ruffin died. David Ruffin was LEGALLY MARRIED to 2 women - Mrs. Sandra Ruffin, whom he married in February 1961, and is the mother of his 3 daughters, and Joy Hamilton, whom he married in 1976, and ended 3 months later.

You know thats the difference between Otis and Ruff, &Eddie. Otis is a political guy.He speaks around the edges meaning he is always concerned with how things might affect the group. Its always the GROUP ! That is Otis Williams, and I feel that Melvin Franklin who is really Otis Miles, yet Melvin was a guy who is/was a team player although that man had a bass that is so distinctive its amazing !Now Eddie& Ruff are alfa males who dont take shit yet know what it smells like and that sometimes isnt good in show business because you have to give and take, and those two got tired of feeling as they were giving so much all the time. We ,the fans didnt care,we just wanted that sound and dont forget that look, they had that look,that .....5IVE, THAT CLASSIC 5IVE just had it !After Dennis Edwards, that was the temptations, although they were good ,they werent GREAT, I saw them at the APOLLO and the air had electricity in it, waiting for them to come on! Nothing is like it used to be ,yet those groups of the 60's the TEMPS were the noblemen of the game.

David didn't say The Lord lifted him up to be like Michael He said The LORD lifted him up to be ABLE to do some of the THINGS Michael was ABLE to do! & he was very classy & courteous about the Temps depart. being that he's teamed up with Eddie & letting it remain water under the bridge.also he didn't say anyone was beneath him, they were not allowing them to grow. I didn't realize that David truly fooled himself about his departure from the group: "NEGRO YOU GOT FIRED!!" - talkin' about people beneath him and the Lord lifting him up to be like Michael Jackson- B.S!! David's solo career couldn't touch Michael's success from his first album, let alone Thriller (Which is still the best selling album in music history)/ David wouldn't have been popular without the Tempts because he was a solo artist for years before he joined them and got no commercial success. The proof was ALL up in that pudding. I love David but MAN was he a confused individual
