The Temptations - Interview Recorded Live: 1/22/1986 - Rock Influence - , More The Temptations at Music Vault: www.musicvault.com Subscribe to Music Vault on RU-vid: goo.gl/DUzpUF
Eddie definitely doesn't sing like he talks. Deep as heck, when talking, but like a songbird when he's singing. Cool beans. A beautiful falsetto coming from a voice like that. David, that raspy baritone church sound; These 2 were an unstoppable force in Motown. Long live your music! Temps forever!
No doubt, as someone who also listens to Pantera, if you truly have music in your soul , The Temptations surely strike that chord in you ,amazing voices ,all of them.
I like the fact that eddie is so humble and sweet and kind. And no matter how bad this interview was or how David might have nodded off, Eddie kept this together for him and his friend. And very professional.
Wow. David is so smart, funny, interesting, and well-spoken. It's kind of amazing to me considering the circumstances...left home as a teenager, a poor Mississippi boy, not well educated, lived a fast life, abused drugs...despite all of this he seems so sharp! And he's clearly not even 100% in this video. Yet his memory and speaking skills are outstanding. It's too bad that drugs eventually claimed him. If he were alive today, I bet he would have been a wonderful narrator. His speaking voice is a nice as his singing voice.
Well let's not forget the reason why the rest of the temps fired him because of his selfishness thinking he deserves more royalties since he was the lead singer. Things like taking his own fancy limo to performances and wanting more attention on him, even as going as far as wanting to change the groups name to David Ruffin and The Temptations. Even with his drug abuse he would often miss rehearsals and meetings. The last straw was when he didn't show up to a performance for Dean Martins daughter. But in the end he learned his ways and will be missed.
That's what I was just saying, don't believe the hype. Because David, has always been a class act, as this interview showed him and Eddie, still that way.✌
David was human and I met him also . These men are my heroes and I would hope that people would understand that a movie is just that (not you Bro Rob) and take time to do research and check out Dennis Edwards interviews here on Y.T.
David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks are two of the greatest lead vocalists and soul singers of all time, there was nothing like them and with the Temptations. R.I.P to both legends and may their legacy continue to live on. 🙏🙏
David understood that delivery was/is everything in soul music ... Eddie’s deep speaking voice fascinates me because he could sure hit them high notes.
I love their chemistry. In an interview, Dennis Edwards said they had a love/hate relationship, but he could tell that they had a deep love for each other. Disagreements are bound to happen in any type of a relationship. The brotherly love surely shows in this video. They were two gifted men.
that little pip squik of a guy looked nothing like EDDIE KENDRICKS A shame too That if OTIS had any choosing HE GOT that actor so HE wouldn't be overshadowed HE WAS intimidated by EDDI' S GOID LOOKS AT THE TIME READ THE TEMPTATIONS HIS BIOGRAPHY HE WRITES THAT IN SO MANY WORDS TALL AND LEAN EDDIE WAS A MAN'S MAN CASTING PPL COULDA WALKED DOWN A BUSY STREET R INTO A CLUB FOUND AN EDDIE LOOK ALIKE HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO'S CHARACTER WAS OFF I KNEW EDDIE PERSONALLY HE COULD OF BEEN A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL MODEL BUT DURING THOSE TIMES NO BLACKS! HE WAS GORGEOUS! FINE! EYE CANDY! HIS VOICE NO WORDS CAN DESCRIBE EDDIE WAS 1 GOD DID NOT DUPLICATE MANY TRIED NOT GOTTEN THERE, EVEN HIS MANY REPLACEMENTS IN TEMPTS COULD NOT TOUCH HIM!!! HEARING HIM SING ACAPELLA MY LORD IT WAS HEAVENLY
Eddie Kendrick and David Ruffin had voices annointed by God. I am Eddie's biggest, as he seemed like a very special man. This footage is priceless because we get to see two great friends interact. Unfortunately, the interviewers didn't seem to understand that they were in the presence of music royalty. No only were the questions redundant, they didn't have the good sense to offer these two men comfortable seats. To me, that further attests to the class of entertainers that they were. God bless Eddie and David's souls.
@Lady Angie. You have hit it square on, these men were of the anointed class clearly. They spoke of their spiritual roots and that is what having soul is. The anointed being human in human form go through what they go through, but the spirit is clearly with them. Thank you for your observation.
Amen!! I, myself am highly offended and pissed that these people treated these royal icons in such a shitty way! How dare they!! No respect for true legends!! There will never be a repeat of those groups or time! They truly had talent and class! Smh RIP Kings
DAVID NEVER LOST HIS SENSE OF STYLE. MAN COULD HE DRESS. HIS BATTLE WITH ADDICTION WAS SO SAD. JUST SHOWS NO ONE IS IMMUNED. ICONIC LEGENDARY VOICE. THE TYPE OF VOICE THAT ONLY COMES ONCE IN A LIFETIME. R.I.P. DAVID.
It's so funny seeing them laugh and joke together. David cracking all the jokes and Eddie laughing, they're so cute lol I imagine they were the same back in the 60s, that would have been a lovely sight.
So you're saying I can be haughty, a drinker, woman beater, smoker, drug user, live a promiscuous life style, liar, abandon family for the sake of pleasures, fame and money and still make it to paradise? You make it sound like it's easy to make it to paradise when Jesus said it would be difficult (Mat 7:13, 14). How can you be so sure they will be in paradise? Who appointed you judge?
this interview was saddening they did even know what to ask these legends....look at david looks like doozing off and eddie looks pissed.... 2:52 .... im proud to see these guys they were one of the top reason for the temptations success...RIP to both of them! EDDIE AND DAVID!
I have watched this interview several times. It is a privilege to watch these two legends, the voices of the temptations, interact together. They are poised, professional, intelligent, sexy, articulate, and soft spoken. It's just too bad the interviewers were so incompetent. R.I.P. David and Eddie.
...hey people... I want y'all to google the first ever performance of their recording of..my girl...sung by Mr. Ruffin.... I want y'all to particularly notice their facial expressions..no one will smile or turn away from the group's standing while to they are singing... but what I really want everyone to Zoom in on...are their eyes, particularly Mr. Kindrick's eyes...it seems looking at my cellphone video of them, that they were in a state of some sort of trans... meaning that as I'm viewing and looking at this 1st performance of them, I feel that I'm actually witnessing the unknown, meaning to me I don't think that these young, spiritually annoited Gifted Black artists men knew exactly what they were relaying through song... but after y'all google the video the question that I want to ask answered is ...did that particular performance of our Temptations seem like a regular studio recording of..say today's musical Black artists..????....it really is a strange and bizarre witnessing to me of a group of black men whose destination was not of this earth... meaning that they were sent to tell us what we need to do to get to the other side..... like at our baby boy Michael Jackson videos when he was only 6-9 years old...he and his brothers were telling us what we need to know and do...to get to the other side.... strange and bizarre as it really is...in this Pandemic Apocalypse of 2020....
Its a trip to hear Eddie speak in his natural voice. Its so deep and so different from his famous & sweet falsetto. And David Ruffin? 'Nuff said. Respect and RIP. #Temptations4Ever
IT WAS SUCH A PLEASURE TO SEE 👀 THIS INTERVIEW NOW IN 2021 AND GET TO ENJOY THE SPIRIT OF THESE TWO SINGING IDOLS. IF THE INTERVIEWERS ARE STILL IN BUSINESS,I PRAY 🙏 🙌 THEY HAVE IMPROVED...!!!
I was born in 1989 September and I see why my Mom loves all their songs and the words to them. RIP to David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks ! Cheers to reliving the Temptations forever !
Lmao this is not the first time we did this, really? Could have fool me. But you can tell the difference between today's artist and old school artists. They sat there and answer stupid questions. And they moved chairs and spoke up without complaint. Today's artists would have walked. These guys were legends at this point and they were treating them like children .
To see them laughing while recounting their glory days, speaks to how special they were and still are. You can literally see them light up, with joy as they go back in time in their minds. They had a journey together that few can barely understand. They were brothers in struggle and in success. They helped create alot of good times and helped create alot of babies through their music.
2019 and I’m still in love with THE VOICE DAVID RUFFIN. Some people say David looked bad because of his life adventures. All I see is two good looking talented men. Missing you both, 2019💯❤️
I love this interview. You really see the chemistry between David and Eddie and can tell that they had a very close relationship. I love when David would joke with Eddie his eyes got real big and his face was serious for a second then he would bust out in laughter lol I thought is was cute. Call me crazy but I'm 22 and I think both of these men are very handsome!
Yeah, were they fishing for idea's or what 😧🤔 ? Every race wanna know what we do and how we do it but quick to ridicule us and prejudge us. That's why you always see black people mug shots plastered all over the daily and nightly news as if white person never committ some of the most unthinkable crimes known to man. 😢.... RIP TEMPS......Your music lives on within the minds and hearts of the "SOUL" people...🥰😍💯🙏
The interviewers need new jobs! However, Eddie and David were patient enough to answer their questions to shed some history into their backgrounds! I still miss David and Eddie very much!
Two beautiful souls... Even the way they sat comfortably together shows how close they were in real life. Legends that can never be replaced... Rest in God's Peace, Brothers...
I just can't get enough of this interview. Their friendship is so adorable. Eddie was the straight man trying to take the interview seriously & David is the comic throwing him off.
Made my day! Somewhat disappointed though because the interviewers didn't really realize they were in the presence of legends and could've asked more or better questions. Then again, who knew in 1986 they only had a few years of life left. I still enjoyed watching this.
I hope I would have asked better questions too. I am just on end of communications major. I'm a newbe. Maybe they were too. David liked to go to church on someone, given the opportunity, cause he could - big pimpin! So knowing my subject, I would have loved to take it to the top. Eddie probably would have gotten a laugh out of it! He loved when David would pose as a statue in Statue of a Fool! Said it on an interview. Made me laugh too. Ruff sung the mess out of that record though!
I always wanted to know his philosophy on vocals or being a great singer. I'd like to know what he thought of other singers. They did touch on James Brown. I definitely would've liked more acappella singing!
I loved seeing this interview, and have watched it more than once. Thank you whoever put it out. I know I have things to do in life, but this interview is so entertaining that I will watch it some more. I like how David gets a little more comfortable and starts leaning on Eddie. Funny!
Thank You Uncle Paul, Eddie and David for taking the time to teach Me vocal skills and stage presence. The greatest Vocal groups of all Time Rest In Power.
Whatever may or may not have been going on behind the scene, these men had mutual respect and love for each other and that clearly shows through. Two beautiful anointed souls together in one room. Their quiet power must have been overwhelming for the interviewer.
These two are legends. They both had incredible voices. An interviewer would kill to have done this interview. Too bad they didn’t get an interviewer to do it.
God Bless David and Eddie. I saw The Temptations in 1966 at the RKO Theater in Newark, NJ. Also on the bill was, The Spinners, Percy Sledge and The Capitols (Cool Jerk). It was unbelievable !! I was 15 years old.
They are so cute I like when they are talking about the clothes. I like when David tell him you know I did not like some of those clothes you made us wear. Then they laugh good camaraderie between the two.
NOW THESE ARE MY TWO HEROES RIGHT HERE TOGETHER!!! SEE HOW SMOOTH THEY ARE AND PROFESSIONAL, AW MAN, IM CRYING RIGHT NOW AND I DONT GIVE ONE GOOD GOD DAMN, I LOVE THESE DUDES AND MISS THEM TERRIBLY!!!! AW MAN ,MY BOYS, MY BOYS I LOVE YOU ALL,CANT SAY IT ENOUGH.
THESE GUYS ARE SUCH GENTALMEN, THEY SHOWED A LOT OF PATIENCE TOWARDS THE INTERVIEWER. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS VIDEO. SO HARD TO BELIEVE THEY ARE NOT HERE ANY MORE.
How was david a gentleman have you seen Tammie terrell unsung he was hurted her and threw her down the steps and slapped her face hard with a motorcycle helmet while time was fighting with bad brain tumor cancer had 8 surgeries on her brain fighting for her life no gentleman hooked on drugs would do that to a women kicking Tammie down the steps he might had been a good singer he's was no gentleman a drug addict and an abuser to Tammie terrell may she rest in peace🙏🙏🙏
I LOVE seeing Dave and Eddie laughing and interacting with each other. This is probably the only footage of them that exists of them in this way. Not too crazy about the interviewer. Would've been nice to hear about their solo careers, why they didn't do Motown 25, or somethin' in that fashion. These 2 men were the voices. No disrespect to the other members of the group, but when u think of their classic hits the lead voices on those songs are Mr. Ruffin and Mr. Kendricks. RIP my brothas and thank u for leaving a body of work that'll last forever.
@@donjay1157 Mr. Williams was a good singer and a VERY important part of the group but the Temps biggest records were the ones with David, Eddie, and Dennis Edwards on lead vocal.
@@ghanasoul oh ok I thought Paul was apart of those too, but I always wondered after watching the movie why Otis had never been a lead singer not once, I know it wasn’t his position but not even one single time?
Eddie still look handsome back in those days beautiful smile they both look good but they are legends rest in peace you guys because you gave us beautiful music💙💙💖💖🤩💯
I have the Get Ready-The Temptations (1965-1972) DVD; Otis Williams is being interviewed between showing the group performing their early hits, and it is a treasure! Mr. Williams gives a detailed account of how the group rose to stardom. I thought it was interesting that they were all over 6' tall which was part of their appeal with fans during that era.
The chemistry between those two men is godly they had such a warm laid back welcoming personality so pleasant and well spoken ‼️ Thank you for this beautiful peace of history 💯💯💯
David looks like he has a cold and fighting through the pain with this interview. They are both very handsome men. I love listening to them to hear their talking voices. They were the Temptations along with Dennis Edwards.
The Voices. The first concert I ever saw, as a kid, was The Temptations, the fall before David left...they were absolutely incredible. The sound of the Baby Boomer generation. Both, Rest In Peace. My favorite? 'You're My Everything'
I love this. I love these two together, they compliment each other in a way; Eddie the slightly shy, sweet soul who laughs at silly, gregarious David’s jokes. You can tell they were truly friends. I know they must be laughing their asses off on Heaven
Two legends....two beautiful and unique sounds, Remember Eddie singing "Fading a way"..... Remember David singing "Loosing You". I can hear them now singing those hits...Glorious soulful baritone and first tenor sounds.
Eddie Kendricks was 46 and David Ruffin was 45 when they did this interview. Unfortunately, they both died far too early (David Ruffin in 1991 at the age of 50, Eddie Kendricks in 1992 at the age of 52) ...
David is my number 1 influence, and Eddie as well. They are part of the reason I am pursuing a career in music. Thank you Mom. If it wasn't for her, I would've never have known the Temptations, or my brother. It's not common for a person born in 1988 and 1995 to like a group this old but the music just stuck with us. Mad respect to Mr. David Ruffin/The greatest singer to ever Grace a stage, and Eddie Kendricks. May they rest in peace and never be forgotten. They will live for eternity in the soul of their music. And Rest In Peace Mom!!! Elvis ain't got nuthin on David Ruffin! !
This is awesome! To hear Ruffin speak about my absolute favorite artist and Godfather, James Brown!! Priceless. May all of them rest in peace. Their music will live forever. ❤
