What a treasure this is. Thank you so much for this posting. What a joy to hear the early David Russell. I am convinced that the guitar he played back then had a superior tone compared to the one he now uses.

There is video of him on you-tube discussing his Gilbert and current guitars. He says now he is older he prefers the more comfortable ride of a Mercedes like guitar rather than one that's a superfast sports car!

Thank you for posting David Russell's live performances in his early 30's. I had a chance to attend a David's concert at a chapel in Lewis and Clark College Portland Oregon on March 31 1982. I knew David for the first time on the concert and was amazed at his brilliant performances. His beautiful and colorful tones shower on us as if they come on us from the heaven. He started his concert playing Cuba by Albeniz, followed by La Source du Lyson by Coste, three sonatas by Scarlatti, Chaconne by Bach, sonata by Morel, a few Barrios pieces like waltz and Paraguayan dance, Reverie by Regondi instead of four epithets by Feuerstein and a few Spanish pieces by Albeniz. As an encore he played minuet for Sylvia by Albeniz and Estudio Brellante de Alard by Tarrega. Ever since I attended his concerts as many as possible and invited him to our guitar society to have his concerts in Kakogawa Hyogo Japan on Nov 23 in 1991. It was a valuable experiences for us amateur guitarists !

Well remembered from over 40 years ago! I first heard him around that time too, he still has that unique sound. I last heard him just before COVID times in London and happened to bump into him on the street as he was walking to the concert hall. Had a nice chat with him and his wife.

Thank you for your reply. When we held David's concerts in Japan in 1991, all our society members went on the stage surrounding David during his encore just like a famous old picture of Tarrega and his companies. By the way I recollected that David also played Garuda by Oliver Hunt in his 1982 Oregon concert! I have his recording via my private guitar teacher who attended David's master class at the college. 1991 was the year when David visited Japan for the first time with his wife. Nice and warm couple! @@selfTaughtGirl

Will you let me know what had happened during David's concert in France? I have no idea and I have forgot to ask David directly what it was. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8IOIrC8ZVxk.html

Thank you for posting this. I heard most of David's radio broadcasts but this is definitely new to me. Do you have him playing Garuda by Oliver Hunt? Lost the tape about thirty years ago!

Yes, you should find it here from 10 years ago! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PNkqtLsrvBk.html I bought the music to Garuda and read it through a few times but never got round to learning it.

As far as I'm aware this was the only solo concert she did on UK radio.
