Great version of this piece. Also, I think it's kind of magnificent that he is a musician and his last name is rondeau.

Agree, suic86. As a matter of fact, in almost all the cases the music sounds better when is played in the instrument that was conceived. And I say almost because Scarlatti sounds pretty damn great on guitar and I think that's the same case for Albeniz, but the last one is just a personal opinion.
@@teapot2186 I know that, but thank you! It is really hard to be in a different place of birth and not be influeced by it. There are a lot of examples: Händel, Scarlatti, Maurice Ohana, and a lot of etc. I think harmony also plays a big part on this influence, that's why (I suspect as well) it is so easy to transcribe for guitar. Hugs from México!

I swear this gets better every time I hear it. I can almost see the smoke pouring out from the jacks and hear their screams as they try to flee this ferocious onslaught. Maestro Rondeau drags every ounce of passion and tension from this work. The pauses are fantastically dramatic.

I completely agree. Scarlatti is intensity. It's like creating a dance of delicate glass spiders that can never touch each other or it all shatters. Maybe a stretch of a metaphor, but it has got to be done right. That said, I've enjoyed a few composers who tone it and slow it down a bit. I actually enjoy slowing the RPM of my Scarlatti on Vinyl to get a different feel for how music like this was thought of and performed. Just unsolicited thoughts, but Scarlatti on slow is pretty good.

@sapiensfromterra5103
@sapiensfromterra5103 4 года назад
@@jskv7eujxbxstcni7rdcj9 No, it has a very distinct touch, the string is always plucked with the same intensity, regardless of your input as a player. You dont need much strength to press the key, it only has to travel a short distance to produce the note, but the special (and crucial) part on the harpsichord is the lifting of the finger after pressing the key.

@@97boskeys even though Martha Argerich plays it fast, her interpretation is quite impressive the way she is able to bring out a much more smooth and polished tone from the piano without any long pauses or mistakes that makes her performance effortless and flawless. Even though Jean Rondeau's performance is amazing, he uses long pauses and also a little rubato that sounds a little bit stretched compared to Argerich.
