RIP Sir David. Your insights, biting and fearless humour will be very much missed. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4835942/Hong-Kong-businessman-David-Tang-dies-63.html
0:00 Intro 1:38 Beginning of speech 6:52 One Belt One Road plus a special mention of Borat (funny & insightful Sacha Baron Cohen) 15:50 Start of Q&A 27:00 The jaw-dropping bit about HSBC actually shorten their board meeting in order to attend a government house function to avoid annoying CY Leung. #darkcomedy P.S. Thanks FCCHK for posting this video. If possible in the future, please include the questions for the Q&A section or at least include a summary slide of the questions. Without hearing what questions and how they were asked, viewers are left to guess what the questions were and if any parts of the questions were left unanswered.
+Mi Ng Thanks for trying to help. I checked Claudia's video post (a FB version few seconds shorter than this RU-vid version) but still can't find all the questions (especially noticeable for the first few Qs). Am I missing something? Ref: facebook.com/ClaudiaMoManChing/videos/1263178167032863/
Pathetic... which government on this planet has dialogue with its masses? Mr. Tang's so called Western ideals is simply choosing between left or right- two self-serving parties, elections etc. etc.. We can only hope and voice our concerns from time to time, to remind our governments their best interests should rest with the people, and I think given the amount of progress China has made there is much for the West to learn. Demanding autonomy from China is so unrealistic both politically and economically to the point where I think the real agenda is to cause trouble. Many of my friends in Hong Kong come from varying socio backgrounds with varying difficulties. Disrupting trade and the safety to voice your grievances, however, is unacceptable. At first I didn't understand how an influential figure such as Mr. Tang could endorse such chaos... but one doesn't have to look much further than that of where his interests lie. As for the "far-fetched" idea that such a "moving movement" doesn't require external influences- well, Mr. Tang, it wouldn't be a first... Tiananmen Square??
+Kristie Lu Stout As I commented above, my jaw dropped watching 27:00 too. I had a fun FB comments exchange with a friend. He thought the board might just want to be there on time. I thought cutting short a board meeting of an international bank to attend the function/party (with hundreds of guests) on time might have been a bit of an overkill. It is not like the HSBC board is having a private dinner with Mr. Leung himself alone.
Kissing asses my friend. Sad to see that HSBC board does that collectively!!! Talking about Kowtow to the Chinese, but to 689? Does HSBC board humanoid or robots? Sad.
+Henry Chan /can't agreed more! but who knows? tang was a professor at bj university in year 80s, how many connections he has had there and even better then cy? also there is no answered for his relationships with london side...etc. right now, xi desired connecting more with the uk not only the economy but also his domination, tang is one of the best! why he came out and shouting to cy suddenly, this is not the accidentally! still the same, who knows!
All the HK citizen should really take a look and digest on what he said. Simply showed how far we (Hong Kong) had gone in 15 something years after 1997.
As professionals that watching of my cases that must thinking life’s must be afraid of anyone’s to finding out anything’s theirs did. However, I’m not worrying if anyone’s that I had nothings to hides at all. Don’t push that I won’t doing as others US and UK with Canada did to others country’s well beings or besides them had a lot of speeches things from these three country’s damaged them as the immigrants or refugees as well. I will not speaking China situation in this conversation at all. I do believe of of families with be fairly of Asia’s all countries in the futures. As far as those countries disrespect of Hong Kong China Great Bay Area’s with Taiwan never would against the rules of laws; if anyone’s did that still no different than others. If you are the Chinese can’t represent Hong Kong rights that will getting the same justice even myself will not goes away what I did is not right or hurting others or country’s. As I said that if you country’s rejected Hong Kong or myself that I will saving more money’s to your country’s well beings. It will made me have more budgets towards to rebuilding of the animals world’s as well. Anyways, UK kept all those fortunes underground not to moves that’s not a problems at all. If the UK had that kind of numbers that how comes the UK still not returning of the original Empire’s Stare’s back to Hong Kong. If I choose the UK that’s biggest mistakes that I made in my life’s.
I wasn’t creates of the different classes in Hong Kong; instead, I’m still eating with pepper boxes and plastics knives etc. I’m eating in the bed and still got my privacy right to took off by the Canada government. I’m asking for helps but Hong Kong is no needs anyone’s to get involuntary and I’m not asking for anything else from any government or laws to helping me get out of my health problems of lies by the Canada government’s for all 15 years already!
If each government starts back into the government that the business ownership’s only doing business with Hong Kong only. Those business that I did rejecting by my angers of my decisions was truthful that if you wants to have change the situations that I do advices you consult with Hong King peoples that the movies business is independent without government supporting at all. How could theirs arranges the business like this that I don’t know at all. However, if you do following of Hong Kong rules of laws regulation then we still follows Hong Kong movie’s guidelines of the industry. Dues to Hong Kong movies industry always connected with singing business togetherness is different. As I said that I’m not in this industry that you San asking me to supporting blindly please. I don’t wants anyone’s involvement of the judge’s decisions to make at all. You can offers suggestions that let the judges consider of yours suggest respectfully as well. ❤❤
Within so many years that none of the countries willingly to talks with me; instead, wants to said how’s takes care of the government mistakes! And learning from my suggestion to takes all my credits. Covered my name’s all those times as well. Therefore, I’m really patiently awaiting of those leadership’s to returns me or not?! By the ends of June that I had to acts of the revolution to covered of people’s death of payment to flash starts of the new systems and new life’s as well. In this earth so many peoples struggling and under of the poorly management skills of the old systems! We must be holding on any furthermore. The new moneys must be resettlement of each person’s but the currency rates that your government nit say then yours biggest country’s deaths will moving up furthering; anyways, I’m sure that as the previously government leaderships.carrying so many deaths if not the government always giving out to them that they never earned a penny’s at all. This earth suppose no one living of the owing all the times! Hope your governments must be considering this only changes that the business without deaths can starting independently. Without asking for helps and don’t needs to lies the richest anymore for the reality instead. Each countries governments and leadership’s must be catching up the times that each second counts right now if my life’s as well. Thanks ❤❤
Wouldnt it much better if sir david delivered the speech without read the script, i started to get bored after a few minutes after he spoke, he can do it but he rather not to!
David Tang is intelligent, brave and on-target. His "holy trinity" -- Hong Kong's fortune of having a (1) decent judicial system, (2) fairly un-corrupted community and (3) genuine freedom -- is the city's pride and one reason 50 million Mainland Chinese come to visit each year. People can see and feel the difference. I recommend this video.
50 years is the grace period for both country to adapt to each other way of living ,progresses, freedom and many many things to make it equal.why can peoples of Hong Kong to represent the small Hong Kong to go and meet the higher authority instead of asking them to come down and meet the Hongkongers. Hong Kong should make the first move instead they come to you,Hong Kong is just a small Hong Kong.
Appeasement: has been said to be feeding a crocodile [CCP] and hoping it doesn't eat you BEFORE exhausting your bait/food supply. Tired of seeing VISAS declined as well, without any base.
What a man, I can't but to agree what he said in the clip. Especially, Hong Kong has got to be as funny and happy as before. Fun is the element why people come all the way for visit. Come on Hong Kong, wake up or just as what Sir David said I can't give a fuxk .
Watched this days following the demise of Sir David. I didn't know him at all before but having listened to his FCC speech I have very good respect of him for speaking on and for Hong Kong. I haven't heard anything better, certainly none in the present day LegCo would get even close. RIP Sir David.
It seems to me that people of Hong Kong are starting to think about their future, either establish their own country, or become just another city of PRC. After all, the sino-british declaration is gonna expire after 50 years. It's a bliss for Asia to have another great country born after Singapore. Time to rise Asian.
5:25 he said "..the citizens of hong kong..". , not residents of hong kong as hk don't have citizenship only residency. That should reflect his attitude towards hong kong independence. LOL
Belated comments upon learning the passing of Sir David Tang, who was, indeed, a truly intellectual and erudite gentleman with unmistakably British accent.
I am PRC citizen living overseas and am by no means a nationalist or a diehard fan of the Chinese communist party. However, as eloquent as David Tang sounded here, he wasn't talking to Hong Kongers or the mainland Chinese, he was talking to a Western elite class. He wants an executive who would "stand up" for Hong Kong. But what's the point? The strength of the executive is embedded in Hong Kong's leverage. Right now, HK has very little leverage and the rise of the independence mvmt weakens HK's hand considerably more because it alienates the mainland Chinese. The communist govt ultimately is answerable to the predominant wish of the population because it wants to rule with stability. HK does herself no favors by going rogue. It's a dead end.
Hong Kong and the people of Hong Kong are the only place and the only group of people on earth who have the balls of steel to take on communist china. Stability will not be in communist way.
