There's something absolutely magical about the sound of those Strymon pedals. To my ears, this one's not even close. The Mooer is a quite capable reverb, surprisingly so in fact, but the Strymon is just amazing...
@nickakawoodstock
@nickakawoodstock 5 лет назад
In the Shimverb's defense, a lot of my gear choice comes down to budget in the end. I think the Shimverb sounds okay and would probably be sufficient for all but fulltime professional guitarists.

This is such a great segment imo. I like seeing the contrast. Different prices and qualities but that doesn't mean the cheaper does have its own character and it doesn't mean the more expensive will fit everyone's taste. This channel really came around quality wise captain.
@garyward3873

There's an obvious point were the Strymon leaves the Mooer behind, but hey-oh, Two more dials, One more toggle, One extra switch and stereo ins & outs, not to mentions a stack of dosh more. Bang for buck has to be Mooer because it's smaller, cheaper, easier to use and still covers off the most important aspects of what most guitarist need this effect for.

+giggs102 to that end I usually scroll down the page and read some comments (some of them are quite entertaining, you know) and that gives me the opportunity to listen without bias or prejudice. the downside is then I don't know which pedal is on.

@@JulioJustiniano build quality and sound quality are both important, one can't really be demoed in a video like this. If the mooer breaks within a year and the bluesky is still going after 5 years then it's obvious where the price difference is.

'David' hasnt done too bad until now. But the BlueSky is one of, if not the, best all around reverb pedals of all time. Also, they definitely have the correct man for this job. Clean, full, and beautiful playing as always Pete.

The actual "reverbs" at play here aren't terribly far apart (sans a few funky artifacts in the Mooers shimmer). But the Strymon is absolutely miles ahead in preserving the actual guitar tone.

I feel like I've been guilty of ignoring reverb pedals. I always thought they were kind of pointless and that reverb wasn't really a desired effect. I just purchased my first reverb pedal last week and I absolutely love it. Both of these are great too but I think I'll go with the Blue Sky because of the extra options. Great video!!!
@mattplayscheap

So I bought the Shimverb years ago after recording a record where we used mainly the Bluesky. I wanted to replicate That shimmer effect. In all honesty, I use the Shimverb all the time. Love it actually. Live it holds up. There's a certain character to it. I think a lot of people get a bit caught up on the fact that the price difference is so drastic. By all means this doesn't mean that the Mooer isnt as good as the Bigsky.

The problem with the Mooer Shimmer is that it shimmers in 5ths and not in octaves. Whilst it can work really well for some things, octave shimmer is just so much more useful.

As someone who does a lot of ambient guitar, I would have to choose the Strymon. It does a much better job at getting a really wet and washy reverb. Plus I though the shimmer on the Strymon sounded much better.

I gotta be honest. I put on some headphones and listened to this while getting ready to head out for class. I forgot you were comparing 2 different pedals and heard the same tome throughout the whole video. It was only when I watched you switch back and forth through pedals again that I started hearing a difference
@40spinup
@40spinup 8 лет назад
I use the Mooer just as a slight reverb as my amp doesn't have it and sounds fine for general playing. It's only when you turn everything up it lets itself down. Plus with the size of I have it velco'd to the back ledge of my amp,running through fx loop so doesn't take up any space on small pedal board. I only use a couple of effects so does me fine. The Strymon wins though for versatility and sounds.

Another good example of how true spring reverb is it's own thing that needs a real spring. It's laughable how crappy that digital units emulate the spring thing. Aside from that, both of these delays are comparable to my ears. I closed my eyes and was often surprised that I guessed wrong for which one was on. The reality is that the same ambience comes through for both pedals, i.e. a shimmery, swelling type of reverb. Good demo, and I really like this series.

Nice review presentation. However there's really no comparison as the Strymon has an octave outputs and the Moor does a fifth.
@timothycremer3585
@timothycremer3585 5 лет назад
The Mooer was supplied new without any operating or safety instructions. There was no power supply provided with the product. Therefore, unless you have a pedal board with multi supply system or a spare psu lying around of the correct type then you have to locate and purchase a psu to be able to use the product. This increases the cost and makes the pedal less cost effective. This also raises the question whether the device is fit for purpose and whether the description states clearly that no psu is supplied.

The Strymon reverbs and the Neuenaber Wet reverb are on a level above everyone else. They have some special magic going on that gives them this gorgeous lush other worldly sound which is most of all musical and not metallic and thin sounding like cheaper reverbs. My feeling has always been that reverb is the one effect you should never cheap out on. Top class reverbs are just SO much better than cheaper ones that it's very noticeable.

This is brilliant. I´m looking for Shimmer reverb at the moment and it seems to me that tiny little Mooer is actually better at this particular task. Strymon is fantastic, but it´s attack is not very musical. I would totally go over Mooer and focus on something more expensive were it not for this video.

I like Pete's playing style for this kind of demo with any equipment. You get a good range of soft and gentle up through hard enough to drive the equipment. In may cases to much shredding will give the wrong opinion of the equipment. I will admit if the equipment is to push the system to the limit then Shredders are the Demo folks for that gear. Great demo Pete, How about using an A B switch for the future on these kind of demos please.

I think where the mooer fatally falls down is on the spring, which to my ear sounds very unnatural to me. The bluesky for me pulls out the goods here to be quite representative of actual spring units. The fifth thing on the Mooer shimmer is unfortunately painful to say the least.
@themattitude
@themattitude 7 лет назад
nnnownow Agreed. I bought one a while ago purely to use with a small practice amp, which I got at the same time, that didn't have reverb. I fell victim to the old "it sounded alright in the shop" syndrome. After a while the flaws in the spring emulation began to bug me. Once I started to notice the way it affected the dry through tone too I had to replace it, with a HOF mini. The room is much better, I'm just not a fan of room reverb, and the shimmer is totally fine for occasional use.

I used to have the Shimverb, its Room setting is pretty good but the other 2 modes are seriously bad, they have a not well-dialed fixed predelay and make every guitar sound almost the same. Generally screams digital in a bad way, especially when turning up the decay and tone, thus hearing more clearly the wet signal. I've been using it for rehearsals (for about 1,5 month) and one Demo recording, then sold it immediately. I'd recommend Digitech for that price, I think it's even cheaper.
