Davinci Resolve 19 is finally here with a tonne of new features. But I wanna walk you through the 7 that I’m most excited about. I’ll also have a little rant about 3 missing features I’m still hoping Davinici will add in the near future.

Hey all. Just a quick note, I edited this whole video in Davinci Resolve 19 Beta. If you're planning on doing super important projects with deadlines, I'd recommend sticking with 18.6 for now. There wasn't any major bugs I encountered, but rather a bunch of slowdown and playback issues that definitely added on some extra time to my edit workflow. But I'm confident these will all be fixed once Resolve 19 is out of Beta 🙌

Awesome video on Davinci updates! I have watched a whole bunch of them and yours talked about things I haven't seen in other videos. Super useful tips to save time including the timeline editing feature to cut out silences 🙌🙏 Your video has been added to my play list 😊

Big HELL YEAH to the Shift+space for quick adding effects. PP and AE both have these. The PP one is on steroids too you have add macros to it to chain effects and add multiple effects to one clip with one click or shortcut. It almost makes me want to use PP (almost lol)

It seems like it's only about time before some third party company or user like @mralextech makes a script that can do the same thing. I just hope it comes sooner rather than later 🤞

@adamGrass - Gerat Video .. On the missing feature number 1, I am using a feature called "Selection Follows the Playhead" which is under Timeline tab on the top.. This exactly does what you mentioned on the missing point one ... thank you

Thanks :) "Selection Follows the Playhead" is a bit different because that just highlights the clip under the playhead rather than the playhead moving around with the computer mouse cursor

In the release of Davinci Resolve version 80 you can customize the panels like an Adobe today... And version 130 Blackmagic fix the error of losing the filter between the clips (ColorBurn, Darken, etc.) during the Fusion transition in Edit page... Don't get me wrong, I'm a DaVinci user and I'll continue using it, so I'm outraged by poorly done things and unresolved old problems...

Yeah if you’re editing an important project, I wouldn’t recommend upgrading just yet. I edited this whole video in the beta and encountered a bunch of bugs. Nothing deal breaking but it definitely slowed my usual workflow down.

I've seen another trim edit tutorial that was completely different. That's a good thing though. different ways to use it. It was more about shifting the clip within it's set endpoints (by click dragging on the clip while in that tool). Cut points stay the same place on the timeline but the clip itself is adjusted. Surely Apple can’t own the patent for a skimmer. That’s like a company trying to patent the idea for a timeline playhead, it’s just something that every editing software has. I hope Apple don’t have a patent for it though 😭

Yeah that’s pretty much the model I have. The M1 Max is sooo good that I don’t think I’d need to upgrade for at least a few more years

Fixed Playhead isn’t at all the same thing as having a second Playhead that moves along with your mouse cursor. It’s a step in the right direction but you still have to click and hold to move the Playhead vs how much more intuitive the FCP style second Playhead is.

@@oldman8277 it’s better than nothing. But agreed, I wish they would include more options to adjust how much it cuts out. What audio levels it’ll target to remove out, etc.

Don’t know how many times you use the word faster or speed it up… But I get paid by the hour. I don’t need to have things speed it up. The transcription effect is wonderful but I don’t need to take out all the pauses… Sometimes we like pauses because that’s how human beings talk. So I’ll take out the ones I want manually and leave the ones in that I want manually… at 80 bucks an hour… If it takes two more hours for me to edit some thing… Good for me. Your enthusiasm is infectious and it’s fun to watch your videos… But you’re a little whacked out.

Can you explain where we can do this? I just redownloaded Davinci 18.6 and I can't see any option to do this, at least not in the edit page.

@@HeyAdamGrasso huh....I wonder did they remove it from the older versions....? You know where you right clicked the viewer and allowed manual positioning, that option was always there (well idk when it was introduced but I haven't updated yet and I have it, 18.6.6) Its there on the edit page as well as fusion (in fusion there are 2 buttons for it in the top left as well

@@abstract2756 strange. I tried the exact same process in Resolve 18.6 in the edit page and no option for manual positioning shows up for me. Though I don’t remember it ever being there. People like JakeWipp have complained about it not being an option for a while now.

@@HeyAdamGrasso weird....I just double checked with a friend who also hasn't updated yet, and it's there for him too This is in 18.6.6 studio, I haven't been reading the changelogs, did they mention they added it to free version? Perhaps it wasn't in the free version.

The favorites in the edit are shit, all hidden, instead of speeding up the workflow, it now slows it down. A lot of space becomes empty in the panel (that Black magic insists on leaving without customizing) Who implemented such a stupid thing..?

After spending more time in Resolve 19, I'd actually agree with you on this. They should have given us the option to make customisable folders in addition to this new folder structure we have now. Honestly all this would be solved if they just gave us the 'missing feature 2' that I suggested. So it's super quick and easy to apply an effect no matter which folder it's in.
