The PGA Tour is essentially a United States Tour. More than two thirds of the tour members are US Citizens and very few tournaments are played outside the US. I hope that if the LIV tour does only one thing it will be to bring the best players in world golf to foreign shores so that other countries have the opportunity to elevate their game and local tournaments to that of the current majors. If you walk into the Royal Hobart Golf Club in Tasmania, Australia you can see a picture of Jack Nicklaus holding aloft the trophy for the Australian Open in 1971. It was played at RHGC. Jack also won it in 1964, 1968, 1975, 1976 and 1978 (6 Times). That was when the game of golf was a global game. Gary Player won the Australian Open in 1958, 1962, 63, 65, 69 and 1970, 74 (7 Times). Many times Player battled it out with Nicklaus, and many other international and local players over that period. Nowadays you are lucky to get any player in the world Top 50 to play in the Australian Open. So I say to the PGA Tour...you have not grown the game. Fact. You have concentrated the game in the United States for the benefit and monetary gain of your own United States based organisation, sponsors and members. Whilst I love the traditions and history of the Masters, US Open, PGA Championship and The Open I do not appreciate what the PGA Tour stands for in relation to the ''Global game''.
I agree with everything you said , PGA tour is monopoly and I am glad Greg Norman is challenging this organization because for over 50 years they have controlled professional golf, and now is time for true freedom of Pro golfers around the world to play where they desire to play without being restricted.
Everything that DLIII says the PGA is doing is in the US, what about WORLD GOLF? Golf is not a US game, its a world game and they have done nothing for world golf, just ask the golf tours that dont exist anymore.
Well said , PGA does not and never has considered the rest of the world . How many PGA players go play overseas and grow the game . Look at the LIV players , majority of them have been globe Trotter's for many years , which gives one , life experience and an open mind . Something the PGA Tour lacks .
Are you really this ignorant? The PGA tour partners with the DP World and Asian tours, and actually helps fund them. They hold events with charitable giving in other countries. They provide opportunities for foreign players all over the world, including Norman. In fact, the tour made him rich and famous. Go watch the interview again and learn something.
I take umbridge with what DLIII said regarding the tour taking care of every golfer. There are golfers that have to sleep in their car, drive from tournament to tournament in 30 year old cars. You never see those stories. You only see the stories of the guys who fly netjet. The PGA does not take care of those who are struggling to get going. The beginning tour member who can’t get sponsors. They make zero money. Those are real stories.
And is LIV? You want the PGA to pay for everyone? Reward is the outcome of sacrifice. Sleeping in a car one year and earning $10 million the next is why they do it. It works.
All they have to do is set up a per diem for all players in the tournament that week. Whatever that amount is that covers travel lodging food ext. Doesn't have to be millions. But give these guys a chance that are starting out. Let them worry about golf. The product will be much better.
If you can lose money playing a sport, it is not professional. Comparing themselves to the NFL or NBA is an absolute joke. I worked out that if they payed the 125 players with tour cards $150k it would cost $18.75m. Outrageous and unaffordable.
The PGA is America's tour. LIV is funded by a murderous dictator that funded the 9-11 terrorist attacks. I hate the LIV tour because I am a real American. Get it?
It’s awesome how the PGA Tour has made it so: you either choose us or LIV. And so many are choosing LIV. Many people aren’t fans of heavy handed authoritarian types.
@@OurAmazingSkies it was just a thought…because it seems that ALL the view points of PGA TOUR folks are getting their message out, which to me…there’s always two sides to this story and then there’s the truth. 🤷🏾♂️
PGA is a tax exempt organization? Unbelievable! “World Tour” idea stole from Greg and Finchem took it to run in PGA events after 4 majors. Remember the FedEx cup? Greg was very upset about it ever since. I don’t blame him.
All PGA talking points are all wrong too. Charitable events? How can it be charitable events and pay its CEO 9M a year? Its just considered “charitable event” to avoid paying taxes
Because raising and donating $200M in a year for charity far outweighs the $9M he was paid? The idea that raising millions for charities also has to mean every employee should make little is silly.

If you have any ability to comprehend what’s being said you’d realize what he’s saying. He’s pointing out a player like Tiger doesn’t JUST play for money. He plays for legacy, and as a part of that, makes a lot of money. If Tiger just did it for money he’d have taken the almost billion LIV offered. He didn’t because it isn’t JUST money for him, like it is for every member of LIV. I don’t fault LIV guys for taking the cash - I think a lot of people would do the same in their shoes. What I do fault is the half truths they continue to pump about why they’re in LIV. This week has been glaring of that. Guys like Patrick Reed were so upset at the Tour for having to play too much and not having time for their family. But when they have a month off from LIV, which would be time to spend with their family, they’re suing the Tour to try and play three tournaments during that “rest and family” time. It says a lot about the supposed validity of what they claim their concern to be.
Tiger Woods EARNED his money. Tiger Woods EARNED his prestige. LIV Golfers want guarantees just in case they lose, or don't make the cut. Men in their right mind know that there are winners and losers and sometimes, YOU LEAVE WITH NOTHING. LIV golfers and those who support them, lack confidence, and can't operate without having a crutch. Pathetic.
It's pretty simple. The LiV tour is just another competing golf league. Like the Asian tour or the South African tour or the South American tour etc... except it has WAY more money than the PGA tour and so it's attracting all kinds of players who want to make bank as they say. Eventually this will all sort itself out and the professional game will be all the better for it.
@@rickteasley2237 You mean the same way Fed Ex does billions of dollars of business with Saudi Arabia and then takes some of those profits and pays the players in the Fed Ex Cup championship starting next week? Oops!
I’m a big fan of Davis, but how can he say that the PGA tour is a charity tour? His points make zero sense. The PGA with no guaranteed money is better for none top guys? Like what is he even talking about?
Keep in mind after the PGA Tour stymied Greg in lawsuits in the 90s over the World Golf Tour they ripped off the idea and renamed it World Golf Championship. So they agreed with the concept, they just didn't like someone else was getting the profits.
Love thinks the PGAT made Norman. But the PGAT would not exist without the players. Norman however would be a great golfer without the PGA. Talent is the draw, not management. Talent makes the tours, not the other way around. Talent is the rare commodity, not management.
Sorry but the players would have no place to show their talent without a place to do so. Both need each other and they both need the fans to pay the bills.
Ridiculous. Without the PGA tour, you would never have heard of Norman, Woods, Mickelson, etc. A lot of people worked a lot of hours to create and maintain the organization that gets the TV contracts, sponsorships, venues, etc. that give these players the opportunities for exposure as well as plenty of money. Would you rather see this model be destroyed and have them funded by someone like Putin instead?
@Dan Vandenberg, my sentiments exactly…all of your comments. Thank you it saves me from typing. Ironic as well how Americans are going against an American founded organization. One that has been the backbone of developing almost every iconic name in the sport’s history, over a non-American entity with questionable motives at best. It’s perplexing.
Well, what did you expect them to do.... how do they compete with the bottomless pockets of the Saudi govt. The PGA needed to make changes, everything gets kind of stagnate at some point, need to evolve a little. Greg wanted to be DR Evil of the golf world way back in the 90's. That is for the top 30 in the world.
I'm sorry I don't buy it. The world where professional athletes get paid $0 for having a bad outing no longer exists. And it's funny how the PGA suddenly found more money when LIV started picking off top players
They struck a TV deal that will bring in $300 million a more annually than their last deal. So they're increasing prizes and bonuses by almost that amount accordingly
Great point! Finally building Top Golf sites in SoCal recently. Great fun for non-golfers! Also a Golf Bar in San Diego with golf simulators - cool way to introduce people to golf.
@@petebellamy3505 Good point, but most of those kids would play golf anyways. I think affordable public golf courses grow the game more. I would NEVER have started golf without the $12.50 monthly (weekday/twilight) junior card at Torrey Pines.
don't act like Rory is so righteous. he gets paid appearance fee which is pretty much guaranteed money to just show up. and stop demonizing Greg. it's because of greg that the PGA is changing and increasing their purse. Greg changed the game for the good. it's you old folks that can't let go
Think Love is a bit shortsighted, the parallels to the old AFL is reasonable case study, worked out pretty well for the NFL. The PGA isn't the most player friendly organization out there. Sometimes, the cheese gets moved.
There is actually no similarity with the AFL which I was around when they came into existence. The AFL was made up of individual owners each owning their own team in order to create a league. The AFL was in markets the NFL were not serving.. LIV has one owner that has no need to turn a profit. The Titans(now the Jets almost went out of business. Think of the original AFL cities. Denver, Oakland, KC(originally Dallas), Boston, Buffalo, San Diego. The NFL was not in any of those cities.
Then why are they suing to play in PGA events. If you want a PGA tour card you have to play 15 tournaments add it up 15 PGA 14 LIV and 4 majors= 33 events. That is less golf?
Exactly. Reed claimed he wanted to play less and is now playing tourneys in Asia. All LIV tourneys are mandatory for these guys. PGA tour you get to pick and choose your 15 events.
DAVIS IS FULL OF CRAP! No one has been able to answer this ONE Question: How does Infusing over a BILLION Dollars into the "GAME" of golf NOT Grow the game. Davis is a Homer! Its not only about the money STUPID!
To be honest I hope Saudi values will spread. I’m a traditionalist and like women being dominated. I think it’s the most natural way of life!!! Go LIV golf
It is not the PGA tour it is the US tour and all they care about is protecting their monopoly. In 1994 the PGA created the world golf championship in response to that break away threat, yet as soon as that threat went away, all those tournaments magically ended up being played in the USA.
I'm not a golfer. I love watching golf. Its the only sport I enjoy watching. As a "fan", I do not understand the confusion surrounding players that leave and go to LIV. Why can't the PGA have player contracts like other athletes? Organizations like the PGA made these golf stars. Why should they get all the exposure, growth and top level competition to hone their skills and become Household names enabeling them to earn millions in advertising endorsements and then just walk away? I think they should be under contract. I have no interest in watching a golfer, becoming a fan and supporting that player young and coming up, knowing they will just walk off the green when as soon as an organization with millions decides he's ripe for the picking. I'm watching the FedEx St. jude championship and I don't recognize 1/2 the names! I see Justin Thomas, Finau and Fowler playing and their tem mates are gone. As a fan, its obvious none of them gave a crap about the organization that made them, their fans, or their team mates. Why should we care about you. No returns allowed.
@@rosiefrederick6403 the PGA did not make these players stars, their ability as golfers did. Let’s be clear, its the US tour and it is all about television rights. The tour has been structured so all the tournaments are based in the US and you have to commit to it at the virtual exclusion of playing anywhere else. And it has extended the season by adding these extra three tournaments. So by locking in all the best players to the PGA tour, golf tournaments in the rest of the world have languished. But it seems that as long as the US has a strong tour that’s all that matters to you.
I personally like the PGA TOUR, but all players should be able to enter ANY tournaments anywhere under any tour as long as they can qualify, pay the entrance fee, and not talk badly about that Tour. World rankings exist why can’t LIV events qualify the same as Australasian, DP, or any other bonafide Tour.
Not really disagreeing with you except one point. LIV has different rules. How can you get points for the PGA with a 54 hole tournament? The other tours you mentioned play with the same format as the PGA.
The PGA tour gets it's revenue by having a critical mass of players that play in a series of tournaments throughout the year. That's how the tour gets it's TV contracts and sponsorships. That's how these LIV traitors got rich from the PGA tour.
I love Davis, but a monopoly is no good for any business. Competition is key, let it play out without any influence. The problem is the PGA is going to get destroyed in court. If the PGA Tour formed a players union, and established a collective bargaining agreement this wouldn't be an issue. PGA Tour need to pay all its players thru contract. Theres only 25 new player every year, sign them to 250k 1 year contracts, so they arent hemorrhaging money travel expenses. Once you win you get a 2 year guaranteed contract, a major 5 year guaranteed money. Plus prize money. Theres ways to fight LIV, and its not crying about it.
I don't think so...the USGA and British Open will side with the PGA, LIV golf will do nothing in court, play your own tournaments. That's why they left, to make big money and play less...contradicting themselves.
@@topmech71 You really should read the suit, and there is a couple of law youtube channels that have already covered it for you that you should watch before posting some comment that shows you have no clue.
Pro golfers are Independent Contractors. They should have the opportunity to play wherever they want. The PGA is trying to maintain their monopoly. This is simple competition...what are they so afraid of? The PGA is trying to maintain their control of Independent Contractors. The "few" should have every opportunity afforded to them. In the end, the PGA WILL compromise...just wait and see.
You are missing the entire point here. You can't play for both tours; they are competitors. You can't work for Coke and Pepsi at the same time. This is EASY to understand.
The contractors are INDEPENDENT, that means that they can work for whoever wants to pay them the most. Both Coke and Pepsi would have the opportunity to pay for whatever beverage they thought would sell best. Simple competition….EASY to understand.
@@bdeale3314 and when Pepsi says you can’t work here anymore because you work for Coke then your career is over at Pepsi…and you have no reason to sue Pepsi because you left to work for Coke….”independent contractors” seems to infer they can work anywhere and be free of rules and regulations of others. They gave up something to get something they think is better…now LIV with the decision and the resulting consequences. Greg Norman will lead everyone he can toward his dream of revenge against the PGA by flashing greed as an enticement.
I love seeing talented people earn their full potential. Musicians, athletes, artists they all make other people rich. Then a Jay M., making $8M, forgets that HE WORKS FOR THEM.
Imagine if the employer that taught you how to be an electrician said, now you can only work for me, if you leave you can’t come back ever. That’s what the PGA is telling them. The PGA may need to grow up. If they don’t, they will be left behind. The PGA is a money making beast, don’t pretend to be philanthropic, please. Competition is healthy. The proof is that the PGA purses are increasing. Proof that Greg is right, the PGA is ripping off players.
Imagine if the employer has a company and has taught you how to be an electrician lets say he has 20 people working for him. the company does all size jobs from small to super large. you learned your trade from this company. Now you leave this company to go make more money at another company which is fine. But you want to be able to come back and just work the super large jobs . to me it's not fair to the rest of the people working for you. and a no cut tour is not competition
Davis contradicted himself. He makes it sound like Norman is all about the Saudi money, and then he tells, about 95' same concept no Saudi money. Sounds to me like achievement of a long-term goal. Besides the fact I believe Norman was already a billionaire.
Davis clings to the rules established by the PGA Tour. What he doesn’t seem to either understand or acknowledge is the legality of those rules are being challenged. Only time will tell what is determined.
@@danvandenberg5754 It matters not that the PGA Tour’s rules evolve. What’s being challenged in a court of law is the legality of those rules. As I said, time will tell.
It’s all about the $$ for the PGA and LIV, NBA, MLB, etc. The PGA is a “non-profit” but only gives 3% of annual revenues to charity AND saves 25%+ in annual taxes due to its status. ITS ALL ABOUT THE $$.

competition is public and private companies competing in the marketplace. A sovereign nation competing against a private enterprise is not competition.
Sounds desperate to me. Professional athletes play their sport for money primarily, the tigers and jacks can play for glory. The rest are there to make money and to win.

If he speaks with knowledge why doesn't he mention the fact that Jay Monahan and the PGA in 2018 signed a 20 year contract to run "THE CHINESE PRO TOUR." The PGA is not doing it for "Free", so what is the PGA doing with the "BLOOD MONEY" it gets from COMMUNIST CHINA. China is #4 in the world for terrible human rights, Saudia Arabia is #18. Davis Love is so awesome! Very levelheaded and articulate in explaining the PGA and these current issues. I think the PGA has a long and bright future with men like Davis and Rory providing strong leadership and influence to the game 🙏 These guys also happen to be two of my favorite players of all time! Along with Arnie and Freddie! Blessings always to the PGA tour!🙏
How about this -- LIV is funded by a fascist murderous regime that kills anyone who dares challenge them, and funded the 9-11 terrorist attacks. Get it now?
It’s great. LIV has already made the PGA better. They upped winnings by what 15%. Some personalities have a hard time accepting change. About money? Of course. This is how we keep score and provide for our families
The PGA Tour has failed in many ways. They need to cut back to 24 events, ie.. 2 events a month and play better courses. Many PGA Tour Players play only 15-20 events a year. They play 1-2 weeks before a Major and bail out of the other events, so why even have them. (?) With LIV you know the Players are going to be there for every tournament.
You mean all 6 tournaments. Don't you think fans want to see more that 15-20 tournaments? Shouldn't what the fans want matter? Some people like to watch golf not just the very top players. I for one enjoy college or even high school golf. Most love the game not just some players.
The PGA tour is one of the best run organizations in the world. Their revenues are higher than ever, their TV viewership is higher than ever, and golf is more popular than ever. What world are you living in?
Tax exempt status while your trying to monopolize, hmmmm. PGA, USGA, R&A, all these bodies live very cushy lifestyles without ever swinging a club. The PGA is a 501c CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION, who since 2000, has given just 16% of monies taken in to an actual charity. If you want to monopolize, then pay taxes.
For all of you who now love LIV (and aren't getting paid s..t for it) go there and stay there..Watch your monthly exhibitions and leave The PGA Tour alone...dont come back!✌🏽
Except for letting him off the hook when he asked Davis Love III why the PGA gave money to only the top players… direct evidence that Greg DOES have a point.
DL3 is full of it. LIV is about spreading the wealth, and the PGA’s moves lately show that LIV is better for the players. More than anything the PGA is US centric and LIV offers a much more international format. All this talk about 1997 is bs. Free agency is a good thing and the LIV makes it easier for more to make more rather than just the top people. I especially did not like his opening comment about Greg Norman “ he came here from Australia” as if he should be grateful for the US for making it open for him. He gave as much as he got. Last why does the Commissioner make $9MM annually. Love saying the PGA is about “history” not money is pure BS.
Spreading who’s wealth? It’s not about market value or any sane economic structure. You LIV coomers and the boys that like your messages are insufferable.
If Tiger IS NOT playing for money, then why hasn't he gave up his PGA card, applied for his amateur status and compete as an amateur and not take the money? I am tired of you guys saying that isnt about money. You can play golf at the highest level as an AmTEUR.... Arguably the Greatest ever was an amateur....correct?
DL3 states the PGAT is not about just helping the few tops pros but the 150 or so who are not. Is that why the PGAT does not pay half the field every week? Is that why the PGAT changed schedules, and qualifying for the big events and the playoffs so less players get a piece of the pie? Funneling more to the few at the top, they even openly stated so. Is that why the PGAT created the PIP to funnel yet more money to the top guys. DL3 talking more bs.
So if you play bad you should just cash a big check anyway? Oh wait, that's LIV golf. The PGA Tour doesn't discriminate against its players... you have to earn your way, not be given a free ride just for showing up.
@@neuuser7071 I never said he didn't. My point was, the LIV folks don't have to play well to get paid... hence, eliminating the incentive to play well. See?
When you hear from PGA people you get one view, when you listen to LIV players you hear of change, excitement and competition for golf and change. Already the PGA is now spending more money and looking at ways to improve their competition so players don't go over to LIV. I also like the fact that LIV is traveling around the world to spread the game - that appeals to so many people.
The LIV players were independent contractors with the PGA Tour. Now their contracts are dependent by the ego of Greg Norman and money of Mohammed bin Salman. How’s that for a career change?
Let the players leave. Don’t let them back. Let them play 10 tournaments a year and do their business models and spend time with their family. There are so many talented college golfers who can replace Henrik Stenson and Pat Perez
Without just name calling explain why they should be banned? PGA takes money from equally as bad places as well as saudia Arabia. The government does as well. So what's the difference
The issue is that the LIV guys don’t want to do that. They say they want to but the very first extended break they have they’re trying to get into three tournaments that would take away that time. It was never about having time away, it is about playing just as much but for more money. That’s what they’re suing for. The Tour hasn’t prevented anybody leaving, they’ve simply stated that those who do leave aren’t allowed to play Tour events.
DL3 lists all the ways the so called elites/rulers grow the game and only one was listed as being run by the PGAT and it makes up a tiny percentage of the PGAT revenue.
The PGA tour has dozens of programs that grow the game of golf. They also donate more money to charities than any other sports organization in the world. How is the murderous dictator tour growing the game?
The only ones getting hurt by LIV is the fans and especially the gamblers the so called defectors have screwed themselves, I don’t blame anyone for making the most money they can but if you leave don’t try to use the courts to get back in. I’ve never seen anyone play in the NFL and take off a few games to go play in Canada
I understand the money part, but don't get up their and say LIV Golf is about growing and promoting the game. As a PGA club professional. the game is already promoted and grown, especially since Covid 19. It's about greed. I don't think it's fair for the media to bring up Saudi Arabia's human rights violations, no player that plays LIV golf agrees with those violations, AND The Olympics were played in CHINA and not one country boycotted. China doesn't have the best track record of human rights either. So I don't think that should be brought up
Davis names two of the richest players who aren't playing for the money. Almost billionaires. There are many, many players who need the money. It's all about the money in sports and in life. These PGA talking heads are fearful of "exhibition tournament players." PGA want a monopoly. Get used to LIV.
So Greg Norman tried this before? 28 years ago? Seems to me that the PGA has conflated this to a Saudi money issue out of fear. This is really a Greg Norman issue making a legacy for himself. The PGA is going to be just fine.
The question I’ve heard no one asking is does the game of golf really need “growing”? It’s not for everyone but it’s a worldwide sport and already pretty damn popular.
Whatever this is, it's certainly not some kind of a free market scenario. It feels more like back in the 1980s when government subsidized steel companies with pretty much unlimited funds dumped their product into the market at less than the cost of production knowing that the existing producers couldn't compete. So all the "competition is good" talk rings very hollow to me.
The PGA tour player who is in the 150th position in money winnings this year has made $670,000. None of them sleep in their cars and are being paid additional dollars through equipment sponsors. Just saying...
Have heard that 27 of the biggest business sponsors of the PGA do 40 billion dollars worth of business with Saudi companies. And who knows how much money flows in from China.
What a about all the PGA players who got screwed “chasing the PGA tour dream” left with HUGE debt and spat out like trash!!! Pro players should ALL get paid. It’s disgusting you hide behind being a “charity”
He got it done didn't he...... people get too much into the us vs them thing. It's always been a great display of golf skills to me, light years ahead of most everybody.
