not to mention the most powerful main antagonist they faced so far, blackbeard? pfft, that dude from the upcoming film? highly doubt it. Barbossa was a huge threat when he was cursed, but now not so much.
not really, he is not paying the right keys of the organ Edit: yeah now i knoe that he is indeed well animated. I just looked at some tentacles doing weird thing an assumed it was bs.
@@publiovirgilio2238 if you look at the behind the scenes of the making of Davy Jones, the notes are being played correctly, but it's much more harder to track where the notes are playing because they add the other tentacles as a background
@@eduardolopez5551 not only that, but he is spreading it across all 3 tiers, so literally every 3 notes is played on a different tier. Looks wrong. But he's just cutting in and out of sequence, and making it work masterfully.
Yeah, though speaking from experience... Having to listen to the same playlist every day can REALLY destroy your drive and work ethic. It also makes the music stale too.
I think it would have done better if they cut the whole cannibal island section, but if you look at why he went there and why he left, it was good story progression. PotC2 would have also done better if they did not dilute Cpt Jack Sparrow's character for pointless comedic purpose, but the movie was made to entertain both young teens and adults alike, and I believe that it was a very good mixture of both comedic and dramatic. On the good notes, I do not think they could have built up the fear of Davy Jones and his little pet any more. By the time we saw the final face off, nobody knew which way it was going to go and the end of it left most the audience an emotional wreck
Xehemoth it's got a terrible plot. Everything else is amazing but it's just far too simplistic in the story. It's themes and music and visuals and action, acting and characters were awesome, but "I'm killing every pirate and I'll kill you if you don't help me because you helped a pirate" is a pretty boring & flat baseline
1:08 could you imagine the feeling of knowing you spent your entire life in agony trying to keep your only son from following in your footsteps and...there he is, right beside you...and he cant even recognize you
This scene and piece of music actually gives insight into how long Jones has been on the Dutchman. Davy Jones has 46 beard tentacles, plus 5 fingers, one hand tentacle and a pincer equivalent In total he has the equivalent of 53 usable fingers This equates to 5 pianists. Jones has had so much time on this ship he has had enough time to learn from scratch not just one organ piece but 5 parts of an organ quintet *and play them simultaneously* For perspective it took me two years to learn the one-person Davy Jones' organ piece perfectly from scratch without sheet music or lessons (conveniently I learned by ear and this was the first piece I ever tried to learn) Remember though that Jones came up with this rendition only from hearing the music box, and while it's unknown whether he could play the organ or even the piano before he became ship captain, it's highly unlikely. The Dutchman was supposedly given to Jones by calypso and I don't beleive any ship in history has ever had an organ on-board. Also a piece of trivia - whilst it's very hard to tell, after repeated watching I've found that _some_ of Jones' tentacles are animated playing the correct notes of the main melody
A full proper Pipe Organ? On a ship the size of the Dutchman? Not a chance in hell. *Way* too heavy. Even a small one. Not to mention the burner-boiler set needed to power the organ (since air wasn't an option at the time). A piano? Much more feasible. An upright piano? Absolutely. Im sure many ships had those irl. If you had a decent sized ship you could have a baby grand or even a full Grand piano. Perhaps a steam-sailer 10x the Dutchman's size, beam and displacement could maybe have a pipe organ on it. But it'd probably be a small one and be center of the ship. I think the most feasible example, if converted to steam, would be a Zheng-He era Chinese Treasure ship. If one were afloat today.
its better than a lot of CGI today.... the CGI used in the late 2000s often looks so realistic you think its practical effects (such as two face in the dark knight)
@@crazyunclecrispy6140 I think its all done by a group of studios and the main one went bancrupt after Life of Pi flopped.... U remember that movies visuals? They went beyond all out everytime and appaerently it ultimately backfired.
As cheesy as it looks, this is a really great scene. Davy has been stuck in this state of gross immortality for so long that he can play the organ masterfully with every appendage, but his pain and discontent is still fresh and writhing.
THAT opening shot from 0:00 to 0:07 of the Dutchman in the stormy sea is one of the best images/visuals I have ever seen. Epic, haunting, weirdly beautiful, grand at the same time. Simply sensational imagery.
i love how the writers were like”how do we make this already brilliant antagonist even better?? i know, lets have him play his own theme on the organ with his face”
Soooooo much better than dead men tell no tales..Both movies with davey jones were the best of the best. The part when we believed the invincible jack sparrow died to the Kraken and then the fight with davey jones on top the ship. Sadly I doubt we'll ever see such a masterpiece ever again.
At worlds end was my mosy favorite the Final battle was beautiful. Two captains fighting on top of a mast of one ship while both their ships fighting it out in a malestrom. Its perfect. Very underrated
It really is. The official soundtrack version is phenomenal, dont get me wrong. But this is just so much more potent. I KNOW this raw audio track exists somewhere. Without the sound effects, and voices, without being turned down to hear the dialogue. There has to be a raw version, that they recorded to be used in the movie out there somewhere, and I can only pray that it will turn up one day.
His facial expressions and the way he moves shows just how much pain he is and the emotion he puts it into his music. Bill Nighy did such a wonderful job portraying him.
How I describe them: •Hector Barbossa - The *Honorable* One •Davy Jones - The *Tragic* One •Cutler Beckett - The *Manipulative* One •Blackbeard - The *Power-Seeking* One •Armando Salazar - The *Vengeful* One Any additional thoughts??
I disagree. Barbosa was the one who back out on every deal he made or attempted to renege on every deal he made. Seriously rewatch the first, third, and fourth movie. He betrays everyone he can at some point. Hell he is literally introduced to us as a mutineer. I also don't really agree with your Blackbeard one as he was more about preserving himself than seeking power. He also was the most selfish of the villains always thinking of himself. More accurately it should be Barbossa: The Treacherous One and Blackbeard: The Selfish One.
Can we talk about how heartbroken Bootstrap is to see that not only has his son turned to piracy like him, but also became part of the crew on the Flying Dutchman, two of his biggest nightmares come to life.
Clearly one of the best movie series and best pirate movie series and my favorite potc part is dead man's chest. Idk it is awesome, has pirate feel to it and caribbeani feel. Exited to 5th movie (Pirates of the caibbean dead men tell no tales) too? of course you are who ain't. Might be first time pirstes too well. Considering the movies pirates have now whole fleet (ships captured and put in bottles by blackbeard), controlling the Flying Dutchman basically since i'm sure William will help his buddies and they are controlling Queen Anne's revenge. 3 legendary flagships Black Pearl, Flying Dutchman and Queen Anne's Revenge... what possibly could mess with them? i guess we find out in 5th movie.
We all have. This song brings out the pain we endured. The regret we felt. The betrayal we so desperately tried to force into the pits of our stomachs. If you don't feel pain when hearing this song, it's possible that you've never had your heart broken.
I feel like I’m in a minority here, but I like how Davy Jones’ theme sounds in the film more than the soundtrack. There’s something more genuine about it, like you FEEL his heartbreak, rage, and sorrow all at once.

Just imagine that you are sailing on the sea on a ship with your crew through a storm, and suddenly you see a ship with torn sails on the horizon and organ music begins to play
If your wanting to be part of a crew, im always looking for some crew mates for a future ship that il be getting and we can sail the seas, do what we want
I just can’t express in words just how excellent this scene is. It indirectly shows Davy Jones’ rough past and at the same time displays a grim and powerful mood to show the pain he suffers. This is so pure gold. He is one of the best and most underrated, misunderstood movie villains of all time.
Guys, Guys, I just realized something. The score is called "The Organ of Davy Jones" but it alludes towards the instrument and the human anatomical part. Get it, ha ha!!!!!! The organ of davy jones would be his heart but he don't have one, is anybody else realizing this or was it just so obvious that you didn't think anyone would say anything.
I like this scene. Even though Davy Jones is playing the song that was a special thing between him and his love. You hear how his pain has warped and twisted it's sweet melody to one of sorrow and heartbreak.
0:14 He tries to forget her but the music he plays was about his love and even so he continues to deceive himself, but he still loves her and surely in a part of him he regrets his betrayal.
I can't believe movies like The Empire Strikes Back, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, And including Temple of Doom are like one of the best sequels I've ever seen! Including they both have great scores for their music!
TRUE !Amazing !! i love it too ! I made a video too like pirates of the caribbean at my home pls let me know what do you think ! thanks ! kader from Optical power
They did such a wonderful job with this movie. This particular scene creates an eery and dark mood. I feel as if they intended this scene to feel like the deep dark and old sea. The lighting throughout the whole movie also makes the same feeling
@@bigboner4605 especially with disney.... the vast majority of things released by disney have 0 passion and are made purely for profit (cough MCU cough)
This is a case of diegetic music, in which the music being played is in-universe with the story where everyone can hear it. However it does give way into being non-diegetic when cut to the crew as more instruments are added to the score.
Yeah imperial March does actually exist in universe it's just a happy upbeat version the empire uses in parades and stuff and who knows the rebels could of took that and made the version we all know
Yes, this is what it sounds like to have your heart broken. It feels like fire literally spilling out from your shattered heart that spreads throughout your entire body until it reaches the brain and completely infects you with the most intense rage and sadness you’ve ever felt in your life. THIS is what a person you gave your heart too is capable of doing to you 💔
0:09 wouldn't it be so badass if Davy Jones had his own movie with this song in the trailer I'd give Disney my whole wallet and house to make this happen
I just love how Davy Jones is letting all of his emotions & feelings out on his organ. Also that guy should have been specific on exactly WHICH Turner he was referring to, was it the young one or the old one?🎹🎼🎵
I don't think he knew there were two Turner's on the ship. The crew only know Bill Turner as "Bootstrap Bill". Even Jack didn't know his last name, and they used to be allies.
Besides the beautiful CGI by Industrial Light & Magic and cinematography by Dariusz Wolski, the epic Hans Zimmer score really helps make this scene as awesome as possible. And even the whole film in my opinion.
Ya thanos dosent even compare to how great davy Jones character was, I would even out davy in the same league as the Joker or Darth Vader of great character writing villain
respect your opinion, but I'm gonna give mine: Davy Jones had a much more tragic story, better character development, and feelings that we actually could relate to so seriously Thanos is out of the best villain league at least in the cinematic version
There is something so captivating about this scene, I love it. How such a sinister and evil creature still have the finesse and appreciation for form and art to play the organ so passionately, even if the sounds emitting from it are pure evil. There is an admirable prowess and strength coming from it-as though the aspects others which we respect are present in our enemies as well
"hoist the colours" is about Davy Jones sealing Calypso, and the fact that you can hear echoes of it in this song (the same song that plays from their lockets) is a progamer move
I don’t care how flawed the movies can be at times, Pirates will always remain an amazing part of my childhood, and even now, I get sucked into this world thanks to the brilliant special effects, the music, and the characters
When this movie first came out I used to play this scene over and over again because I loved the music so much. This was before I discovered RU-vid lol
Fun Fact: the reason sailors would sing sea shanties while sailing was very practical; it would help keep time on the rocking deck as the crew performed basic chores. Now, think about the fact that Davy Jones is actually playing that organ. The crew outside his cabin can hear it, and are performing chores during a choppy storm. That’s right, Davy Jones isn’t just letting out his anger and frustration in the form of music, he’s also making sure his crew keep to their work by playing a loud song that they can keep time with. God this movie’s writing is great.
the song he made for his beloved, the pain he must feel playing it. it must have been unbearable before he cut his heart out. the sorrow and heartbreak are plane as the tentacles on his face I have to think Davy Jones as symothetic villain and a broken man
“Strumming my pain with his fingers, stringing my life with his words, killing me softly with his song..telling my whole life, with his words”... I can love you like no one can 🖤
I absolutely love this sequence. It shows drive and determination, and above all, shows how brutal revenge really is. Revenge can consume your very being making all you see and do about that one perceived slight. Blackening everything else, till all that is left is the cold lonely reality of insanity. Dont be like Davey Jones, his soul was blackened by the loss of she who made him what he is. Love will make you do crazy impossible things. Hate will destroy and leave nothing in its wake.
