In the early 1990s, a group of physicians and health care executives in Vermont decided to bring together a community hospital, a Catholic hospital, the University of Vermont College of Medicine, and a private physicians' practice to create an integrated health care delivery system in Burlington, Vermont. This is the story of the founding of Fletcher Allen Health Care, now known as The University of Vermont Medical Center.
