Tau vs Imperial Guard is one of my favourite match ups, because it's just the two default army forces of both races going against each other

most videos i've been able to find were like IG build baneblade and then after some time tau loose. Like 100% of videos players choose Mont'ka over Kauyon for unknown reason.

Kroot have way too bad of a t2 staying power. You can only really give them jump and shaper and that's still woefully inadequate to face most enemies bar someone you basically destroyed t1. Little damage, poor mobilty, bad survivability unless fed, but feeding them takes very long, which means giving up on doing damage t1. And if you gave up on doing anything in t1 with them - why would you even bother building them in the first place. Too many downsides to bother using them, even when you'd really want to have a melee unit (such as dealing with Wraiths from Necrons).
@iMost067
@iMost067 Год назад
By default they have 310hp per model, fully fed they have 610hp per model, with shaper they have ~660 hp per model, with Etherial on map they have ~880 hp per model. They are quite tanky for as cheap as they are. Especially considering hp buff are permanent for whole game and 8 seconds reinforce time

@@iMost067 Infantry High armour, generally second worst after Infantry Medium. Boosting HP is in theory good, but means feeding them in tier 1 to get anywhere, instead of doing things with them. And that's when they stand a reasonable chance of doing anything - tier 1, when enemies don't quite have the heavier hitters or more relevant upgrades for their counterparts. Damage is the biggest issue - you lack any way of boosting it with upgrades. You only gain better moral, HP and movement speed. Mobility is another, but Shaper partially fixes that with his movement speed bonus. Generally if you're trying to play off Kroot - lack of damage hits you in tier 2. Fire Warriors have decent upgrades, can focus down squads (due to being ranged) and generally only suffer from poor melee stats. If you transition in tier 2 with Kroots - now you have to somehow protect them from being shredded by enemy fire and also kill enemies. By that point many races get their answers to enemy melee - CC, superior melee units, transports etc. Maybe if devs gave Kroot a melee upgrade in tier 2.5 could be different. Or didn't require feeding them to actually get an edge in HP, while also making them an early game unit.
@iMost067

@@Legiro its not the worst armor, there a handful of weapons (even lategame ones) that deal x1.5 more damage to Heavy Medium armor than to infantry high. So its not realy true. Thing About Kroots is that default speed is 20, with shaper its 25 and they have a leap on top of it - so there are no unit in game except maybe Seraphims that wouldnt be tied in melee with them. Obviously you dont spam only Kroots, but having 2 packs early wouldnt hurt, then you hust transition to Hounds Also Kroots have like x2.5 hp of Chaos Marines if that matters

@@iMost067 If memory serves, more weapons in tier 1-2 will do damage to High rather than Heavy Med. Shootas, CSM, Dark Reapers. But true, some exceptions like SM. So Heavy Med isn't necessarily that much better. But generally you will take more damage with Infantry high in tier 1-2 from ranged fire. An issue Banshees also suffer from. As for leap and Shaper... It's a decent boost, but there are huge downsides. For one - a hilarious oversight of Shaper himself lacking leap. Which means researching leap can potentially cost you a shaper in engagements, as entire pack leaves him behind. In certain circumstances gets him killed very fast. For second - it's not as easily controlled as... say, jump on Assault Space Marines. It triggers automatically near target and at much shorter range. It's good for getting into the fight, but reaching that point can become a struggle. Health comparisons I personally don't like. As I stated above - yes, in theory feeding Kroot makes them pretty good in health/price ratio. But feeding takes a long time. Time you're giving up to feed them instead of using them to do damage. And by far and large, you generally won't have it once tier 2 starts and enemy will get mobility of vehicles and transports to harass. So you're forced to pick during tier 1 - do you feed kroot to get what other races get by simply spending resources on an upgrade. Or do you strive for doing damage at tier 1, at the risk of being in a bad spot should enemy fend you off rather well and manage to go into tier 2. If you wanted to play defensively - you'd probably pick Fire Warriors instead, which have decent transition into tier 2 anyway. And if you wanted to harass - Kroot are fair choice, but start to become all in. Either you do damage or you're in a really rough spot once game hits tier 2.

@@Legiro Fire wariors is not realy decent T1, most of the time they forced to dance around their LP2 just to not die. You forced to give away map control just because you make like 2 packs of FW

Lol, doesn't surprise me. I remember years ago I stomped my Emperor fanboy friend as the Tau, in literally multiple ways, even before the last patch for Dark Crusade. Had a line of Fire warriors wiping out every Space Marine or IG unit in seconds. Ranks of Skyray Gunships laying missile fire every destroying everything coming towards me. And then, the coup de gra, as he continues to send Baneblade after Baneblade, I just had a huge Stealth Suit team freezing them until those Baneblade disintegrate into chunks on the Ground. Then, as he tries one more ditch effort, makes a huge army heading to my base, I had an army of my own, 20 Stealth Suits fully upgraded jumped into his base destroying every single building one after another, he had just made it to my base when I had wiped out all his buildings. XD

@AlucardDarkEnding
@AlucardDarkEnding Год назад
Kauyon is the way to go. Don't need a Hammerhead when it's basically a glass cannon when I can have Fire Warriors that shred infantry like paper from halfway across the map as long as you can see them. 10 Skyray Gunships + 3 Fire Warrior teams + 14 Stealth Suits and Hero Units maxed with mines laid out everywhere. Skyrays kill infantry and vehicles, Fire Warriors shred infantry, and Stealth Suits shred vehicles while stunning them and tear apart bases like they don't have thousands of HP.

@@AlucardDarkEnding hammerhead is the way to go against IG because with kauyon tau has nothing to kill leman russes. FWs after t4 becomes useless because IG doesnt use infantry anyway
@AlucardDarkEnding
@AlucardDarkEnding Год назад
@@theblastfurnace3745 Eh, I disagree. 20 Stealth Suits fully upgraded melt Baneblades in seconds, especially with EMP grenades back to back. With the right tempo and calculations jumping in Stealth Suits and out when necessary no vehicles stand a chance. And the Baneblade is literally the toughest vehicle out of all the races besides the Monolith.

@@AlucardDarkEnding the stealthsuits will die one by one to kasrkins, heavy weapon teams and assasin. and ut will take minutes to remake, and a lot of resources. IG t4 is not only about a baneblade
@AlucardDarkEnding
@AlucardDarkEnding Год назад
@@theblastfurnace3745 Like I said before, with Kauyon, Fire Warriors have the best range in the game out of any race, and will shred any infantry, heavy or not, and have much better mobility than Heavy Weapons squads. With the commander as back up and stun mines, and I haven't even mentioned Broadsides, which also have insane reach and damage as well, but I didn't use them that game. It also depends on the map, which we were playing on Tranquility's End. As long as you use just one Stealth Team jumping in to make sight of the enemy, Fire Warriors make short work of any infantry, with Kauyon. With Stealth Suits covering most of the map as well in different locations you can always know where someone is. IG only has access to 5 revealers, besides turrets, 4 Psychers and the satellite. Broadsides and Stealth Suits make short work of any vehicle. Also if I didn't mention it, this was on Dark Crusade before Soul Storm even came out. Which honestly was a better balanced game. The inclusion of faux Air units that don't work very well and are extremely unbalanced I was never a fan of them. The best being Orkz hands down. And Necrons the worst, if you can even call their air unit an air unit.
