Having owned that exact same RIA, and also understanding how nice the toolless guide rod is, you're taking it apart the hard way with the one piece rod. All you have to do is lock the slide back, insert your pin/paperclip in the hole in the guide rod, and then release the slide stop. That takes the tension off the spring and allows you to disassemble it like a normal 1911.
Sunday revelation. Reseating the guide, "pull back on bushing and let it pop in"! That is what stopped by to view......1911 maintenance requires additional attention, but it will work....Thank you.
Thanks for the video! It pretty much persuaded me from buying this Dawson tool less guide rod. Almost same pain as using a paper clip. I have a similar 5" 10mm RI 1911 and every time dissembling and reassembling was a pain in the ass.
Glad I could help! If you haven’t subscribed please do and also hit that like button! It’s great upgrade for sure I really liked it over the factory setup. Thanks for watching!
It honestly can be a pain to put the spring and bushing back on the rod sometimes if you take it apart to clean it but for just a quick take down it does make it easier for me rather than having to find a paper clip for the factory rod If you haven’t yet please hit that subscribe button!
