I don’t think this is the trail along the stream. It’s been too long since a blaze has been seen. It’s probably a trail to go to that pretty little water fall.
We took a wrong direction in Maryland before because the trail was one big dry creek bed but we noticed we hadn’t seen a blaze and went back the way we had come and sure enough we had gotten side-tracked just a small distance. Sometimes it’s hard to tell but the views were nice though.
You’ll have to ask the AT Conservancy that question, they are the ones who are considering it a flip flop. Either way, really doesn’t matter. As long as the entire trail is hiked.
