Today marks day 169 of my sobriety journey, and I decided to listen to Nick Nittoli's "Motivation" (Official Lyric Video).
Before diving into the music, I wanted to share some thoughts I've been pondering about recovery meetings and their necessity. I love meetings and truly believe they are incredibly beneficial. But it made me wonder, is it really true that one needs to attend meetings for the rest of their life? If you have had an addiction, do you need to follow these recovery steps indefinitely?
Don't get me wrong, I think meetings are fantastic, but I'm challenging these thoughts a bit. Is there any scientific evidence supporting the idea that continuous meeting attendance is crucial, or is this a widely accepted notion from 12-step programs and other recovery groups? From my personal experience, my relapses occurred when I stopped attending meetings. However, I've never maintained sobriety for more than two years.
It seems odd that even if you've been sober longer than you were actively using, you still might not be considered "recovered." Is lifelong meeting attendance the only way to maintain sobriety? I have no issues attending meetings, but I'm curious if there are other paths to recovery.
As for the music, Nick Nittoli's "Motivation" didn't quite hit the mark for me this time. I enjoyed his previous track more, but that doesn't mean I won't give his other songs a listen. Not every track will resonate, but that’s okay-there might be gems in his other work!
