I love ecclesiastes as a new believer I flipped open the Bible to this book and the first thing I read was meaningless meaningless everything is meaningless it was exactly how I felt and for the very first time I thought maybe there is something in this book for me and God does understand me. Now years later I look back and appreciate that God used my ignorance in that moment to show me that He understood that I didn't understand a thing. the Most High stooped down to my level to speak to me eye to eye. Thank you Lord.

I really like the translation of ‘hevel’ to ‘smoke’ instead of ‘meaningless.’ I think that it captures the attitude we should hold for our life on Earth. Vacations, dinners with family and friends, work, our day-to-day life; these things are good! Like smoke, they can be beautiful and enjoyable (I’m thinking candle or woodsmoke, to fill y’all in on my mental picture). But like smoke, the problem comes when instead of enjoying it, we try to reach out and grab it. These things are beautiful, and God gave us the ability to enjoy them for a reason, but they are not stable. We cannot hold onto them, and the wind of the world will blow these things away. They are not permanent. God IS. HE is not smoke. We can hold onto Him, we can chase after Him; He’s not going anywhere. We don’t have to worry about Him disappearing. I think we can (and should) enjoy the smoke in our lives, so long as we remember what it is and focus on chasing after our Unchanging God.

Vanity, Vanity, all things are Vanity. WOW. This reminds me that this life truly is fleeting. Work your job, and be thankful for what it provides. Do the things that you enjoy (ie., a nice meal, take a trip). Enjoy the simple things in life (ie., a walk at the park, reading a book). Remember that this life is temporary. Life in this current world is truly a vapor. We all live, and we will all die. But, the one thing that will always be consistent is God, and walking with Him is the best thing that we can do.

Wisdom is a wonderful thing to have but seems to be torture without contentment. I pray that as our wisdom increases so does our contentment in our life with God. No matter our lot in life and no matter our circumstances. May we all find ourselves content in the presence of our Lord and all the details He has already laid out in our path. In Christ name! Amen

Ecclesiastes is such a bleak look at life. Like Proverbs, it has many pithy and wise statements in it, but the outlook is from such a jaded viewpoint. It is very applicable to many Americans today. They too have a lot of learning and experience along of luxury, but cannot find joy or a good night of rest. Solomon points out that the best plan is to work hard, be content with what God provides, and enjoy the simple pleasures of your life. Great accomplishment and vast wealth did not make him happy, and he had them! The true jewel of happiness seems to be seeking satisfaction in God Himself and whatever He has given you.

I appreciate the book of Ecclesiastes. While it might seem challenging, my take is to focus on the message of spending our days delighting in the Lord. It encourages us not to worry about life's uncertainties, adopting a patient and enduring perspective, knowing that ultimately, being in the presence of Jesus is worth the wait for all eternity.

OK, so even emperors are forgotten, but what does this say about God and His nature? “He planted planted eternity in the human heart” (Eccl 3:11), giving us a longing, an unending yearning for permanence in the midst of vapor. How heart breaking to have our loved ones’ lives turn to vapor before our eyes. Why does He do this? Is He cruel? We “cannot see the whole scope of God’s work, from beginning to end” (Eccl 3:11). And the Teacher’s words are themselves only part of God’s wisdom, Who has told us Himself that He is mercy, love, and redemption, and that if we seek, we will find, and He will open the door when we knock. How I want to knock and have the door opened and embrace a life that is today only a memory, but who lives today in a solid, glorious light on the other side of that great Door.

Aloha and good morning BR family. I was confused when I started reading the books of Ecclesiastes starting with Chapter 1 Everything is Meaningless. As continued reading, I enlighten and better understanding what everything is meaningless. The one thing that is not meaningless and faith, hope, and trust in God will endures forever. He will never leave of forsake us. -He is where the JOY is!!!

Everything IS meaningless and just a vapor, or vanity, without our focus on Him. When we don't have Him in our hearts and we aren't in relationship with Him, life seems dark and meaningless. Hopeless. I have days where I wonder what the point of it all is... I'm thankful He always reminds me. In college, I super struggled with life's purpose. Especially as I had to read Dante's Inferno for a class. It really made me question lots of things. But when I remain in focus and in step with His word, fill myself with His goodness, I'm reminded that it IS all pointless without Him. He's where the joy is! ❤

My God shot today is found in Ecclesiastes 3:14 - “I know that whatever God does, It shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, And nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him.” I was made for the eternal; in Christ, I now share eternal life, the life of God! I bow in awe before my Heavenly Father.

I felt connected to ch. 3 v2-8 about having time for everything. Sometimes I worry about what will happen in the future and forget to live in the present and slow down but with God protecting me I need to trust his timing.

The conclusion of today's reading is for "one to eat, drink and enjoy the good of all one's labors". Because like one of its verses says: you don't know who will take over the rewards of your labour, whether he is wise enough to handle it well or not. Therefore all truly is vanity. But one thing I'm sure of that isn't vanity is walking in alignment with God's will for your life.

Thanks TLC. Love the message. God is powerful and permanent. We are weak and temporary. Everything is hevel (vapor) Be content. Besides, Jesus, the gift of God is the enjoyment of simple things in life; friendship, family, good meals, enjoying the sun. “I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil-this is God’s gift to man.” ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭ESV‬‬

These chapters seemed so depressing me. I really struggled with them. Maybe because it addresses someone who strives in worldly things. I’ve never really had that drive in my life. I have been grateful for everything that I have had. It seems like he is saying that everything has no meaning, reason, or joy. I can’t agree with that. I enjoyed working hard and felt good about just giving my best. It made me feel good inside knowing I did. I enjoyed being a mom and putting them first in my life, tho more than half of those years were as a single mom and not easy. Filled with many tears and struggles yet smiles and joy. Watching them grow and spending every moment I could with them I cherished each of them. I am enjoying my retired years, tho I have medical problems that are debilitating my physical abilities, because I can see His hand in so much of my life and every step of the way even now. It’s hard for me to relate to anyone that is depressed or not thankful for things that they have big or small. He is my God and my giver of all goodness. I deserve absolutely nothing but He has given me His love, salvation, strength, endurance, hope, joy, and comfort. Isn’t that amazing and shouldn’t it be enough. 🙌

Thank you TLC for all of these videos. My church people are trying to convince me to share my “testimony “ with you because you are a HUGE part of the story. Your videos and reading plan SAVED my life!!! I’m sure you probably hear that a lot and it’s cliche but it’s true and kind of a long story and I can’t type much so I will share what I can... I was an atheist until 4.5 years ago and should be dead but God had other plans, like I said long story. I hate reading and tried to read the Bible a few times but I was so confused. I also kept getting the advice from everyone that “you can start anywhere,” and that is NOT good advice for a brand new believer! God lead me to your videos right when I was planning on exiting the world and you saved my life! You gave me something to live for! Your videos and reading plan app thing have changed so much in my life and it’s only day 170!!! I am so engaged and more importantly EXCITED to read the Bible! I can’t thank you enough! Thank u TLC

Ecclesiastes reminds us that life is fleeting, but love and connections are eternal. In a world where 'everything is meaningless' (Ecc 1:2), Jesus' Golden Rule shines like a beacon: 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you' (Matt 7:12). Let's invest in what truly lasts - loving relationships, kindness, and compassion. For in the end, it's not what we accumulate, but who we love and serve, that gives our lives meaning and purpose.

To me, Ecclesiastes so far is very depressing 😢. I mean it seems like a person can gain so much for what, to loose it all at the end. Then I starting think about so many people who are rich and famous and they their own lives. Success isn't everything. But putting our Trust in God is Everything.

Lots of common sense wisdom here, but obviously missing is the hope of being with God after death and living our lives toward that end. I understand that to a great degree, but I think that contributes to the feeling of futility expressed in this book.

So what does give life meaning? Knowing that God made things that don’t make sense, that He made things crooked that can’t be straightened-diseases that will separate us from each other-and that His purposes are not defeated by pain. Three cords are stronger than one: us, a loved one, and God’s spirit.

God shot- Chapter 3
@TheSteveBOliver
@TheSteveBOliver Год назад
I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good.” But that also proved to be meaningless. “Laughter,” I said, “is madness. And what does pleasure accomplish?” So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. So my heart began to despair over all my toilsome labor under the sun. For a person may labor with wisdom, knowledge and skill, and then they must leave all they own to another who has not toiled for it. This too is meaningless and a great misfortune. What do people get for all the toil and anxious striving with which they labor under the sun? All their days their work is grief and pain; even at night their minds do not rest. This too is meaningless. A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Ecclesiastes 2:1‭-‬2‭, ‬17‭, ‬20‭-‬26 NIV bible.com/bible/111/ecc.2.1-26.NIV
