I love how the gospel writers are not focused on Jesus’ teaching (notice that TLC doesn’t say that the gospels point to “Jesus as teacher”), so much as Who He is: “the Holy One of God,” and “My dearly beloved Son.” His identity is unique, and the fulfillment of scripture.

@caymenmonday4843 Is this the verse you are asking about?: "For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." -Ephesians 2:8-9

this formulation is also three of the Five Solas that summarize the theology of the Protestant Reformation: by faith alone, by grace alone, through Christ alone, through Scripture alone, to the glory of God alone. They’re called “solas” because “sola” is Latin for “alone” and appeared in the Latin version of this creedal formula.

In Luke 3:10, “The crowds asked, “What should we do?”” They ask this of John the Baptizer. What John tells them is similar to what Jesus’ teaching would be which is an example of what heart change looks like, what loving your God first and your neighbor as yourself looks like. You share with the poor, you don’t cheat or steal, and you don’t abuse your authority. God wants heart change. So, no, our acts do not save us. We are saved by God’s grace, and God’s grace alone. That act of being baptized and announcing to the world that Jesus is Lord is important. But what God also wants is obedience, a heart change, an outward showing that we are indeed different than we were before and that we love Him more than anything else. “A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. “If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,” he said. Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!”” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭1‬:‭40‬-‭41‬ ‭NLT‬‬ This verse stuck out to me today as a reminder to be more like Jesus. For a lot of people if we were approached by a man with leprosy our first reaction would be to be scared or move away, but Jesus’s reaction was compassion and love. He wanted to heal and help the man. Now obviously we don’t have heavenly holy power that God has, however, I think the message of this verse is to be more compassionate instead of judgmental and scared. A lot of the time in which we see someone in need or in a place we don’t approve we may judge and distance ourselves however Jesus invites us to do the opposite, be with them, help them, and heal them through and for Jesus name. God bless you guys today!

Linking the presence of the Trinity at Jesus' baptism with the presence of the Trinity at the beginning of Creation is brilliant! When God repeats himself we definitely ought to pay close attention. God spoke, The Spirit hovered and The Son created the way for us to have new hearts. Thank You, LORD, our second Adam through whom salvation is given.

Jesus prayed to His Father. If Jesus, who had no sin and was one of the Trinity prayed to God, think how much more WE need to pray? We suffer, we have needs and insecurities! We are troubled and have pain. We need to pray. Jesus was tempted, He prayed. We are tempted all day long. God, help me remember to stop and pray! Mark 1:35 NIV "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." Jesus is the perfect example for us as humans of how to love, how to care for others and how to be compassionate for all people. Jesus taught how to be fair and make good decisions. Jesus talked to God, and we need to talk to God. God, help me escape to quiet places, like Jesus did, to pray, uninterrupted and sincerely to You for guidance, wisdom, love and compassion. Teach me to love and care for humans as You do. God bless us all in developing more devotion to prayer! In Jesus name, Amen.

Good commentary, Tara. Baptism is an interesting subject. I go to a Christian College online. At this College, I found a library book online that is very old. It is about Baptism. Written and published in the late 1800's. Interesting reading. It tells from a Catholic viewpoint or perspective. It addresses submersion in water vs. Sprinkling. And other beliefs about baptism, Tara-Leigh. I have heard from Commentators that on Matthew. Jesus is considered as the "New Moses." Especially when Jesus delivers, "The Sermon on the Mount" Thanks. In my denomination, we see baptism as symbolic. I don't know that I've ever heard it stated that we do it to demonstrate what God has already done for us. I've always heard that, as TLC stated, it's to publicly profess/show that you have been saved, but also, it symbolizes washing away your sins and being reborn; the old you dies when you are immersed, your sins are washed away and you emerge reborn.

Hello there! I've been studying being saved through baptism for many years now. Can you help me understand the scriptures that clearly points out we must be baptized in order to be saved, and they are as follows, Acts 2:38, 1st Peter 3:21, Acts 22:16 and Mark 16:16. And also in James how it discusses faith without deeds is dead, James 2:14-26 . Can you help me understand this because talking about scripture screaming it , it sure sounds loud and clear to me ?
@kristiwerling4574
@kristiwerling4574 Год назад
I don't think you'll find anywhere that it teaches we must be baptized in order to be saved. Instead, we must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and turn from our sins for salvation. Then He does the saving. See 1John 1:9, which doesn't speak of baptism and Luke 23:42-43 - the thief on the cross wasn't able to be baptized, but he admitted Jesus was God and Jesus told him he would be with Him in His Kingdom. We have to look at all of Scripture. Baptism follows confession, but it doesn't save us. Only God can do that. Anyway, check out the articles linked below, too. I'm sure they're much more qualified than me. 🤪 In James when it talks about faith without deeds being dead, it simply means that if we are truly saved, we will naturally have deeds that follow because of the Holy Spirit alive in us. Not that we need the good deeds to be saved. I know these are controversial topics, but this is how I understand it all and I hope it helps. ❤

@@kristiwerling4574 I I understand those scriptures to, but did you read the scriptures I posted? They scream loud and clear that baptism is for the forgiveness of sins. We can't deny what the Bible is clearly saying. All scriptures have to be taken I think in harmony with the whole. I don't think we're just supposed to take one scripture and say we don't need to listen to the rest of it like baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I'd like to know your opinion about the scripture that I posted that clearly says we need to be baptized for the forgiveness of sins? Are we supposed to take one scripture and just go buy that or are we supposed to listen and obey all scripture? I have gone over these questions many times in my head. The thief on the cross was also before the New covenant and He is God , He can make those decisions, I don't think we should. I think we need to obey all His commands , not just pick and choose . Should we not lie but instead steal ? Like I said these are the questions that go through my mind

I’ve heard so many say that baptism is a “works”- but the scripture clearly points to baptism as an act of obedient faith, trusting that one’s sins will be washed away as the old man is put to death and rises up from the water as a new born babe, spotless with no sin…being “born again.”

It has always been my understanding that Matthew's genealogy is traced through Joseph as the adopted father. Luke's genealogy is through Mary (physical descendent of David through Nathan) This fulfilled the part of the covenant of God with David which promised him that his seed would sit upon the throne forever. Being descended from David through Nathan, He did not come under the curse which was pronounced on Jechoniah (Jer. 22:30) Women were not mentioned in genealogies - and the language is different for Joseph (not the "begat" meaning word)

I love your studies and how it has deeply grown my relationship with God and understanding of His Word. Respectfully, however, as a reformed Presbyterian your explanation of paedobaptism is incorrect. We do not think Jesus needed to make the water special in any way. We also believe in believer’s baptism and believe it is a mark of the new covenant in Jesus. The difference is we would baptize the new believers and their children as Lydia did. Happy to discuss it more 😊

In the notes to the NIV Ryrie Study Bible, I learned 30 years ago that Luke’s genealogy was through Mary. And that both Mary and Joseph were therefore descendants of King David. Great! Now, I read in my notes of the ESV Study Bible that very few commentators defend that view today. Eek! Still, the ESV notes state that some commentators suggest that Heli IS Mary’s father, who had no sons, and so “adopted” Joseph when he married Mary, for inheritance reasons. The alternative is that Heli is Joseph’s uncle who became his legal, though not physical, father after Joseph’s natural father died. (This all from the ESV Study Bible notes). I am back to siding with Heli as Joseph’s father-in-law, and God covering all bases of Jesus being a descendant of David both physically, through Mary, and legally, through Joseph. I am happy again!

Baptism is just a symbol, an act or a sign. It's not everyone that's saved that will have the opportunity to be baptized. Jesus said the way to be born again is to be baptized by water and by the spirit. The second one is the important and necessary one. Everyone must be baptized by the spirit like it happened to the apostles on the day of pentecost at the UpperRoom. And that's done by asking and tarrying for the infilling of the holy spirit through prayer and fasting. He's Where The Joy Is

I can't accept sprinkling water at baptism (peado-baptism) because both JtB and Jesus preached REPENT and be baptized. A baby doesn't even understand that it's alive, let alone have the ability to repent. It takes a person old enough to understand that it can sin, to be able to repent
@marykayk1626
@marykayk1626 14 дней назад
Actually, a baby does know it's alive. An infant had. Strong desire to stay alive. Catholic baptism is more of a commitment for godparents to be available to keep the child faithful. Also to step in if something happens to the parents. Baptism also takes away the sin we are all born with- Original sin, that was passed down from Adam and Eve. Now, baptism as an infant has significant early ties to infant mortality. Babies died anywhere from birth to days old. A child was in danger because of diseases and congenital birth defects. So cleansing of the sin we are born with was very important because with this sin, a baby was unable to go to heaven. Traditional baptism - yes, does the infant ask for forgiveness, no but the congregation does ask, the priest baptizes. Probably more than you wanted to know but I wanted to she'd some different views. A person does need to repent and ask for forgiveness and give their old life the boot and follow Jesus. Often than not, a baptized infant will be baptized again the way that is Protestant approved.
@laurievarney2668
@laurievarney2668 11 дней назад
@@marykayk1626...so you are saying a baby that dies and has not been baptized will not go to Heaven? You are wrong. God does take babies back to Him and Heaven. I don't know what you are being taught but consider finding a new church/religion. God is loving and would not punish an innocent baby!
