Day three of the timber frame workshop with Shelter Institute was all work and no play! Everyone was worried about the snow storm in the forecast and how it would affect both the frame raising and the remainder of the workshop. The motto of the day was work as hard as you can, because nobody knows if weather will shut us down!

What the world needs now....is more community. You guys rock. The video captured(whether intentional or not) the way you guys have come together in one pursuit/goal. Makes me daydream about when there were no power tools and people roving westward. Brilliant. Like the Amish, but with cameras.

levi is doing a great job filming and showing all the people and what they are doing and hoping to gain from this experience. Such a great feeling you get from all the various people and how, like Jessie said, the thoughts are changing from how is this going up on Friday to wow I cant believe we did that is such a short time. Must be a great feeling. And everyone is having such a good time it seems like, working but also enjoying the experience. This is a good earning film. Cant wait to see the rest.

Another incredibly enjoyable video! I cannot begin to fathom the pressure, and responsibility the Shelter staff carry in this build. The weather factored in heavily; but just making sure that every single joint is accurate, and able to join, when the times comes... It's one thing to build one of these frames with experienced staff and minimal time pressure; quite another to have 26 students that have paid serious money for the education, and the expectations that they bring to the bench... I can't even express the amount of respect I have for the experienced staff there. Wow. Impressive... Just not enough word! Great video shots, drone footage, etc. Keep up the incredible editing, Alyssa - WoW!! :-)

I’ve replaced those Shelterlogic covers twice. They’ll sell you a so-called “Heavy Duty” cover for twice the money… In the end I just bought a “cheap” tarp and replaced it by weaving a cord through the grommets and around the posts. It should hold for the winter untill I can build a shed with a real roof. Or I might find some surplus/reclaimed steel roofing and just cover the frame with that.

Ha Ha Ha. Love the Blueberry Disco... I feel like I saw allot of tools sitting on timbers. Did Pat not give the lecture about not setting tools ontop of timbers and then follow up with the story from our class where they had to bring a guy to the hospital because the slick fell off the beam and hit is leg cutting through pants, skin, muscle and hitting bone. Ouch

They actually do a pretty good job with their voice/music volumes when compared to the Building Brupeg channel. If PLFL is "super loud", I can't imagine the adjective for Brupeg's music. All I can say is it's completely unwatchable but it would help you be more tolerant of PLFL.

Legitimate question to any timber framing folks out there: When paring the tenons, would using a block plane instead of the slick speed up the process? You're basically trying to get rid of high spots and flatten out a relatively large area; if it were me I'd want to throw a small shoulder plane & block plane in my tool bag to true up corners and square up the shoulders of the tenons. Staying tuned for days 4 and 5!

Elisa and Jesse. I really like these videos and I know that you are splitting them up into a day each. But how about more insight into the frame design and how the joints are detailled? if this means that for the remaining footage you have, you end up with 5 more videos of half a day, then I think that this would be great! I imagine there is perhaps enough video time on the assembly of the first bent (or frame)? Hope you are all well and that you have a roof now!

On your temporary shelter just go get a couple of big tarps (so you can make them double thick.) and some rope. throw them over (or pull them over with some ropes) tie them down by the eyelets then run rope crossed kind of like lacing up your boots. one to two hours and $150-$200 and you good for another year at least. Then back to house building
