What I find so interesting is how much Jess has grown into a Whovian over the years. When you go back and watch her Season 1 - 4 reactions (Before Honey!!) you can tell that she enjoyed the show but wasn't really hugely into it as part of the fandom (Apart from her love for Mickey maybe) and now all these years later she dedicates a whole month in the year to this show! Fantastic!
She didn't seem to enjoy the show very much during the first two and a half series. It wasn't until the second half of series 3 that Jess finally began to show any genuine emotion and interest in the show. After that, she enjoyed the show, but still wasn't hugely in love or invested yet. Of course, that would change very quickly once Matt Smith turned up. I think it took like 4 episodes, lol.
Yeah. She's said as much in the past. It was the Human Nature/Family of Blood story that basically made her start falling for the show. And then of course Silence in the Library and Journey's End at the end of 4. When "Honey" came along, she fell much harder.
@@meropetied I remember watching her reaction to Human Nature/The Family of blood and being SO relieved! Aside from School Reunion and any Mickey moments, it was the first time she had a truly emotional reaction to a Doctor Who story, almost three whole series in! Isn't that shocking to say, considering she's become known for her hugely emotional reactions.
Sadly, no. Poor Rose. He never once mentioned anything about regeneration until RIGHT before he did it, and Rose was a bit distracted by the fact that he was about to die to really let it sink in.
Well, he made a sort of mention or two, but not in a way which was aimed at explaining to her nor which she could have understood. He does comment on his new ears in his first episode but she's just met him and is processing way too much to notice the oddity of the comment. And I think he makes some mention in the Slitheen episodes about how he looked different when he knew UNIT, maybe? But if he did, not in a way where she'd get what he meant.
This a random, but welcome surprise. No, the doctor never mentioned regeneration in series 1, so it was a complete shock to Rose. Unlike Clara, who had been in the Doctor's time stream and seen every version of him, so should've been much more open to the idea. Besides, it isn't until Ten defeats the Sycorax leader in a sword fight that rose finally accepts Ten. That's right at the end of "The Christmas Invasion". Before that she's very, very hesitant to the whole thing. One episode is long enough to do the whole getting used to the new Doctor thing, imo.
To answer your question, no they hadn't alluded to the possibility of the Doctor regenerating or changing appearance earlier in Series 1. It was RTD's deliberate policy to introduce Doctor Who lore step by step. But the UK audience all knew Chris was leaving as it had leaked.
I remember BBC announcing Chris was leaving but no one knew who was taking over till it aired. And, me being like 10ish at the time if it was leaked online neither I or anyone I know found out. And also everyone I knew plus myself already knew of regeneration as, well were all brittish...
I remember this. :) It's kind of cool to see you reacting to something from Series 1 now that you're more into the show and you're past the "what the fuck am I watching?" phase. :)
Loving DW December! As far as I'm aware, 9 never mentioned having different faces! Even Clive in Rose only referred to this incarnation. Hence the slight surprise from Rose.
Toby Girdler I always had a fan theory that Rose’s reaction is because she could swear she’s seen that face before (like she did at the End of Time part 2).
@@jacobhogan3208 actually rose was shown all incarnations up to 13 in the novelization, excluding 10, as well as a couple incarnations we don't know of yet, one being described as a tall bald black woman wielding a flaming sword, and a child of indeterminate gender in a wheelchair.
Fun fact, when they made the DVDs, they put the wrong unfinished version of Born Again, you can clearly identify it from the voices being sometimes too low, and the lack of added sound effects when the Doctor strugles. Despite noticing it, they never bothered changing it to the correct version for the blu-rays, at least not the one I have from the Series 1-7 box set. Let me know if they ever released the correct version. I have downloaded an unnoficial fixed version, a good call, because the video has been taken down since then.
True, also I'm pretty sure this was the first time we heard the TARDIS' cloister bell in the new series...unless you're watching this unfinished version where it's just a generic alarm sound.
Apparently, the North American DVD release of Series 2 had the broadcast version, but otherwise all the home video releases have been the unfinished one.
I disagree with the 10/Rose versus 12/Clara. Clara seems to work better with 12 both in and out of character then she did with Matt Smith in my opinion. However Rose was definitely more comfortable with 10 After a few stories.
In your opinion. However, in my opinion, Eleven and Clara were a match. Twelve and River were a match and someone who works for the official Doctor Who channel agreed with me.
This calls back to the First Doctor regenerating right in front of Ben and Polly, and they cant believe this was the Doctor. "He doesn't even ACT like the Doctor!"
I first saw this when Sci-fi channel broadcast the Christmas Invasion and incorporated this Children in Need special into it’s beginning (since America has no Children in Need specials). This was a few years before BBC America exclusively broadcast the Doctor in the states. A few years ago at a relative’s house I saw a bit of a 10th doctor’s episode on one of the Disney channels. That must have been a brief stint on there.

you remind me of my neighbor who i accompanied to see the last twilight movie for what would be my second time seeing it in the theaters... i didn't go for the movie, no... i went to see her reaction. it was priceless.
I'm surprised they haven't released this with the sound effects. It's so distracting not having the sounds of the TARDIS as he presses buttons and it in flight
This is the edit from the DVD release rather than the transmitted version - it has temp track music (Murray scored it later) and hardly any sound effects.
He did make a brief side-comment in "Aliens of London" that his old friends in U.N.I.T. wouldn't recognize him anymore. That and seeing his own reflection in "Rose" are the only hints that come to mind.
RTD has said that that wasn't the intention when writing it, however since it's not explicit it is open to the viewer's interpretation. I don't take it as him looking at his face for the first time, but rather just mocking his own appearance when seeing his reflection.
Funny thing about regeneraion : the newly formed 2nd Doctor described it as a function of the TARDIS and that _"without it [he] wouldn't have survived."_ Now with the Doctor regenerating out of the TARDIS quite a few times (3rd to 4th, 4th to 5th, 7th to 8th, 8th to War) and being alive and (mostly) well, I took it that being in the TARDIS makes a regeneration easier on a Time Lord.
You should listen to exhausted resources its a fan made story on RU-vid that has 9 interacting with 12 there’s two parts and it’s very interesting very good as good as an actual episode well in my opinion If you’re looking for something a bit shorter and has more doctors check out the twelfth day another great fan made multi doctor audio story
I didn't see this until years after it came out and I remember finding it interesting that the Doctor was aware of Captain Jack being alive again (I assume he sensed it when he briefly took the time vortex into himself?). I always assumed it was a retcon in "Utopia" when the Doctor said he deliberately left Jack behind due to sensing his immortality, rather than him just thinking he was dead (since Vortex-Rose never explicitly says she's reviving him when it happens and Jack doesn't catch up to the TARDIS until it's leaving).
First off, awesome reaction as always. I just really hope you get to react to ‘The Prequel to The Bells of Saint John’. Its one of my favorates and it has Matt Smith so you couldn’t go wrong.
Thank you Jess that brought back a memories as this is an DVD extra on Season one of newwho and i i remember this will have been shown as part of the BBC's Children in Need night to raise very important funds for children's charity's up and down the UK and broadcast from BBC studios from Glasgow to Aberdeen Newcastle Cardiff and the hub and in control was and is still the New Broadcasting House in London and the for the first time 'The Chirstmas Invasion ' broadcast Chistmas 2005 i think April/May season 2 began broadcasting now i an in no doubt that i am going to be corrected for some of what i have wrote so just to say but that is the way i remember what was going on at that time
You really can’t compare Rose’s reaction to 10 to Clara’s acceptance of 12 cos of who 9 and 11 were. Chris and David weren’t that far apart in age ( Chris being 41 and David 34) whereas Matt into Peter was a huge change. How would you react if your best friend went from looking like an overgrown 12 year old into a greying middle aged man in a split second? Looking forward to what the rest of DW December will bring!!
Gaynor cool. Personally I think 12 and Clara complemented each other perfectly with their forward, ambitious personality, and with 12's bluntness and Clara's social intuitivitiy working well together. 11 and Clara seemed to just have a flirty, more superficial friendship imo
@@Redfield982 Okay, but I thought Twelve and River were a better match. Eleven and Clara were sooo alike. They both talked fast. They matched each other perfectly. I felt they were the right pairing in my heart and I was excited to see where their adventures would take them, but in real life Jenna got along better with Peter than with Matt Smith.
unfortunately, you seem to have viewed the one with the temp audio track instead of the final version. they accidentally put the temp version on some of the early DVDs
I assume Tomorrow is episode Two of series 11. 10 episodes mean that one every three days so I assume that's the pattern. I have a feeling at some point she may react to "hey missy" by legsnoesrobison.
Can't believe it's taken you so long to see that. It really aught to be watched before the Christmas Invasion as the end of the Parting of the Ways and that dont really match up. That's the first use of the word 'regeneration' in the modern programme. It also explains why they head back to Powell Estate for Xmas rather that a planet where the dogs have no noses! And at least some sort of reference to why they leave Jack behind.
I only just made a comment on yesterday’s about wanting to see you revisit 9 and 10, and here it is! Do you have a time machine or something? 🤨😑😐😳😯😮😲😵😱😁
I think the whole talking about previous faces didnt really start till river and since she was recurring it became a thing to do all the time after that
I hope you can react to David Tennants NTA win, it was so cute and Olivia Coleman (Broadchurch) helped out with the tribute to David aswell as Billie Piper, Catherine Tate. Please can you watch it. :)
In the very first episode the 9th doctor looked in the mirror and commented on his look and in the Siltheen episodes he said Unit wouldn't recognise him so he did mention looking different
Shitty RU-vid Account as a call back to old fans, he never explicitly mentioned to Rose that he could change his face as she was in the kitchen when he was talking to himself about his ears and him saying unit wouldn’t recognize him could mean anything, I.e that he’s much older for example
Every time I see that kiss, I imagine a big "slurp" sound. As if the Doctor is literally sucking the Bad Wolf out of Rose. Don't know, just makes the scene hilarious to me.
Loving the doctor who December, maybe you could react to dr who montages, such as dr who the lonely God or punishment I think it's called, they really hit me in the feels
Small suggestion for a reaction. The youtuber olivercomet extented the Regeneration scenes for 8 and the War Doctor with really good editing and effects and some other scenes too, maybe you can use some of his stuff for a reaction ^^
If you want more Nine, you could listen to the fanmade audio story Exhausted Supplies. It's completely excellent and the voice acting for Nine is on point. I'm not saying you should necessarily react to it, but I'm not saying you shouldn't (with the creator's permission, obviously).
Can you revisit Time Crash again since you know now that it is the first time that Classic and New Who Doctors meet!! And see it again from a different perspective.
I kind of hate it when companion are all like " YOUR NOT HIM!" Me, if I was a companion, id be a little sad bc his personality would be different but id still trust him with my life, and I wouldn't question if he/ her is actually the doctor.
@@DeclannShieldsFilms that has no bearing on this. Like I said, if i was in Clara or Roses shoes, i wouldnt be going " who are you". Bc id trust the doctor no matter what happens. If wed been threw soo much togeher like rose had been.
What I lov about her is the dedication to the show. What I hate as a giant fan of the show myself is I'm a fan of the show. Of the character. When it comes to 11 she's more infatuated with the actor himself and not the character he's playing. She's in love with Matt Smith and less with the character of the doctor. Just bothers me 😂 I know that's not exactly true it's just how it looks
I thought this might interest you. Here's the trailer for The Big Finish series "The Time War" Starring Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H2hx9J5TsMA.html
This is my very first (and apparently last) Doctor Who December. I don't get it! Why are we revisiting Time Lords of Christmas past? I could perhaps understand it, if this was a countdown to reacting to Season 11, but as a Libra woman, I like a balance in my life. Doctor Who December is just all over the place with too many short reactions. I feel like at least two fandom videos could be watched in one sitting to make DW December a spectacular event. This reaction video was lacking the emotions we have come to expect, so I don't know why some people suggested it. Sorry, Sesska. Don't mean to come across like a Moaning Minnie. I am sure some people love it. Tis the season to be jolly...
These aren't suggestions anyway, they're Jess' own picks. This month will very much remain spectacular. The idea is to cover the show as a whole, to celebrate it.
@@markmckeown451 Okay, Mark. You've just contradicted Sesska's statement. She said plenty of her viewers have suggested she watches it, but you have always been argumentative toward me. For God's sake, Sesska almost lost me as a subscriber because of you. Btw, you might have realised by now that this is my first Doctor Who December and therefore, I was not watching Sesskasays when she reacted to The Day of the Doctor, so I would not have been "mind blown" by the revelation that Sesska recorded her reaction to the 50th anniversary special a few weeks before it was uploaded, as if I am a feeble minded woman who is likely to be "mind blown" anyways. Bye!
@@sesskasays Hello again, Sesska. I would just like to say that I am really getting into Doctor Who December now. I liken it to an Advent Calendar and I am looking forward to the next surprise! 👍
