Thank you for tuning into Day 3 of the NZ Summer Series Backpack hunt. In this film Hoani Matenga and I get onto a handful of sambar deer in the NZ bush, but the encounters are not without their frustrations!! (Shot fired)

Yeah it all happened at once, as it often does with sambar. They are similar to tahr, moving down on that last light. I just can't get enough of sambar, my favourite deer species at this stage in my life 👍

Thanks mate stoked to hear your son enjoys the films. I try to clean up the language so younger kids, wives and mothers can watch too, but invariably sometimes there's a slip up! (Heck it'd be good if my own wife tuned in for an EP from time to time 🙄🤭)

Bare feet with blackberry and thistles around you've got to be keen as :-) I enjoy your vids, they have me sitting on the edge of the seat with all the tension! Keep up the great work. Tschüss from the Swiss Alp Kiwi (liked that vid too)

In Aus, how can ya tell the difference between game Trail and roo trail?
@MountainMan_NZ
@MountainMan_NZ 4 года назад
Most animals will use gametrails cos they are like a road system for easy travel. Like us with driving or paths to walk... path of least resistance. So if you're hunting in an area with deer and kangaroos I look for fresh marks for where the deer are actively using a gametrail and comeback to it. Obviously a deer mark is very different to a kangaroo mark. But I have seen both animals using the same gametrails before, particularly near improved pasture. If anything, the roos help alert deer of approaching danger !

@@MountainMan_NZ sweet, ive been just getting roos on my trail cameras. i was hoping for pigs or deer but i guess my block only has roos (obviously not hunting them), rabbits and foxes. Better than not having any block i guess

@@MrKrobbie do you see any pig or deer prints on the ground? Check around any sandy creek lines or wet soak spots or muddy clay pans where their prints will stand out...
