Seeing the museum of articles about WWII reminded me that my grandfather, who was an Army officer at the time, liberated on of the many concentration camps. He never talked about what he saw, but it affected him deeply.

The BRS stove is the most common budget stove used by hikers... its on just about every "budget friendly" list and has survived many miles with many people. We have one. We have not put too many miles on it yet, but hope it lasts! Seems to work.

Hey Ladies My 12 year old son and I are getting on trail this weekend. We are hoping to run in to some of our favorite 2024 thru hikers. We will be around 19E Saturday - Tuesday, making a stop at Boots Off to do some trail magic breakfast sammies Tuesdays morning. Hope to see yall.

So glad you two had a day off from the trail and filled it with relaxation. Mama Bear you stated that your son, Logan as playing the guitar riff in your videos. It sounds very interesting. Not sure if he or you know that every Thursday evening at Squid Lips, there is a ‘Thursday Night Jam’ session there. A bunch of us ( up to 15 players) older people 😂 get together and play rock n roll and blues. I’m sure your son, Logan, would be allowed to play a few songs of his or just sit in and jam with the old folks 😊. Ellen ONieal heads it up now. She has a group of her own name, Phoenix. My cousin, John use to but he recently retired from it and handed over to her. Also, I’m not sure what styles he likes with regards to music but maybe he’d like to listen to my favorite artist, Todd Rundgren. Hot Springs to Uncle Johnny's is roughly 14 miles per day. Hope you make it ok. You could always get a ride at Sam's Gap or Spivey if you run low on food. Hiker hunger should be kicking in soon. 🙂

When you get to harpers ferry in the next couple months I would recommend THE TOW"S INN. Just up the hill from the AT office and in the middle of the historic area.

Have enjoyed following your AT adventure. I am a section hiker slowly making my way north. BTW, the BRS stove would be a good backup stove. I have used it for the past 3 yrs. It does not heat up as fast, but is very light and so far reliable.

You two are really going to enjoy the Roan highlands when you get there. Enjoy!

How fascinating that in 2300 German prisoners of war were sent to Hot Springs in WWI. I never heard of this history before. It sounds like they were treated well. Here is something I read: Unable to return the men home while war was raging, the government leased the luxurious Mountain Park Hotel in Hot Springs to house them. Each of the hotel’s 200 steam-heated, electric-lighted bedrooms accommodated between three and five German officers, while rows of barracks and accessory buildings were constructed on the resort’s grounds and golf course to house crew members. When not farmed out for harvesting lumber or road building projects, homesick internees inside the barbed wire-enclosed camp created a Bavarian village-including houses, a church and even a carousel-using driftwood from the French Broad River, tin cans and other materials. They also crafted furniture, grew gardens and played sports. A German brass band provided concerts for the townspeople every Sunday afternoon. After living in the camp for 17 months, many internees developed close friendships with local families. Some returned to visit after the war ended.

I’m with Little Bear no way I’d carry that coffee out unless I can ditch that cup somewhere before climbing up that big hill. Then again I’m not a coffee drinker lol!

Now this was a first. A facial mask on the AT. Glad you guys got a day off. I can tell you guys enjoyed it very much. I have the BSR stove and I love it. I have used it exclusively for the last 5 years or so. It’s a great little stove. I also love my Hoka Bondi 8’s, they are the best shoes I have ever used. Got probably 5-600 miles on them. Don’t but the Hoka Bondi 10’s they are not nearly as good.
