Surely I've watched other hikers leave Hot Springs, but don't recall ever seeing most of that route out of town. Y'all have picked up a lot of Trail friends, and it was good to see you reconnect with some of them. It's interesting that the longer you're on trail, the longer it takes to think of your character builders. Glad to see Elle :-) Happy anniversary! Great pictures at the end. What a beautiful family.

If I'm not mistaken, Rex Pulford's daughter and husband owned and ran the store at Neel Gap back in the day. Rex had a stroke and died where the stone is while on a thru hike. The cooler temps outside will usually let you get good sleep. You guys are hiking great! Every step is closer to Katahdin but there are a lot of steps before you get to Katahdin. Just think of it as: How many adventures I will have before I get there! Enjoy the warmer weather and it's just a couple of days until Erwin, Tn. Keep smiling! Happy Anniversary! Little bear your joke about the blank sign was hilarious. Almost as funny as a few days ago, when momma bear fell and you said you weren’t going to help her up because it was funny. Hope to see you two in our home “White Mountains” in a few months.

enjoying following your adventure, thank you! also noticed a few changes over the years we did this. wow , a 30 something pound backpack is remarkable. ours were 60 to 80 hiking in the Appalachian's. 80 to 100 out in new Mexico. probably do to the tech of the day and also having to carry more because we were a group of twelve to fourteen and had patrol gear to carry. also when it came to food, we had to choices. MOUNTAIN HOUSE (mostly freeze dried) and RICHMORE (mostly dehydrated and heavier) also carried hatchets and saws, no backpacking burners so we cooked over fires with boy scout cook pots and pans. what a great trip you are doing!

I see you hiked up to the rich men fire tower. It 8svrather sketchy hiking up to the top of the tower. Back in October I hung out in top of tower with a dojo hiked from my and 3 college friends from Raleigh,ndc. The sunset and rising moon that night were simply amazing views. I only live about 75 miles away and plan on going camping up there by the tower later on this fall to hike and enjoy the beautiful fall foliage changing colors.

This section of the trail was where I really felt like I'd settled into a routine and could start to embrace the thought of actually completing the hike. It's just a matter of stringing together enough days to get the miles done. The trail really started to feel like home!! Sounds like you're getting to that point!!
