2:43 "select the planer face to project sketch onto" what do you mean by that what should i select the is noting to select if click anywere the project lines gone and i am not getting that blue done tick
Thanks, Manuel! Glad to hear that. I have the M1 MBP myself and agree that it's much quicker than Fusion 360. That said, there are some elements that make it hard for some folks to switch over (parameters, Manufacutring/CAM, etc). What types of projects do you work on?
@@manuelmrosa Right on! Sheet Metal is definitely better in Fusion 360. Maybe, some day the Sharp3D team will implement some slick Sheet Metal features :)
Hi quick question, what do you mean by "Select the planar face to project the sketch"? I don't have a blue checkmark showing up anywhere. How do I fix this.
I had trouble figuring out that out but if you look at the center of the phone where x,y,z, intersect you'll see small squares, select the one on the z axis, hope this helps
at 4:40, im guessing there were interface changes that made this behavior change. Shift clicking both my curve and my line does not allow me to define a distance. I had to create a line between them and use that to make the constrain
I was busy learning Fusion 360 when I discovered Shapr3D. I find that Shapr3D fits my needs as a woodworker much better than Fusion and being able to use both my iPad and PC is a big plus. I’ll still use Fusion for sheet metal projects but for everything else it will be Shapr3D for the foreseeable future. As I finish more designs I find I really get bogged down when trying to layout a dimensioned drawing. The whole process seems poorly implemented compared to the rest of the program. If you could cover that in a future video it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks, Rusty. Creating a 2D manufacture drawing in Shapr3D is slated to be the 10th and final day of this series. Mainly because I plan to cover a few more 3D printing projects, before shifting gears to do some woodworking/furniture projects. We will then use that project to create the 2D drawing. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that the drawing area gets some love (i.e. new features/workflows), as I agree that it feels a bit lackluster compared to the rest of Shapr3D. Cheers!
Hi, i would like to ask for help once again :) on the step to create the back side with the project. when selecting the edges, which edge you select as for me it highlights or the top or bottom edge of the case and when I select the plane to apply it, the sketch is not applied and not shown. I've tried selecting both edges but nothing. So I don't know if I'm selecting something wrong or maybe the whole edge should be highlighted ?
Hi Simeon. Happy to help troubleshoot! Shapr3D allows you to Project sketches, edges, faces, or bodies - so the selection can be a bit tricky at times. I select both the edges of the phone case (body) and the edges of the phone (reference model) per the camera/fingerprint sensor cutouts. I then selected the planar face (back surface) of the phone. You could really select any construction plane or plane that is at the desired location. It sounds like it's selecting the face for you and not the edge. I would suggest zooming in further to get a easier selection area of the edge. I also suggest doing this while looking straight at the model in an orthographic view. Sometimes looking at the model from a side/perspecitve can make it hard to Project. More on the Project tool can be found here: support.shapr3d.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012231934-What-does-the-Project-tool-do-
hi there.. I tried projecting the sketch in the first step but it doesn't project as a curve like yours did. rather it projects as flat 2D lines on a different plane
@@Dr.Dubz_ Hi Ndubuisi. Please confirm you're looking directly at (straight on) the sketch. That will help ensure you project the correct geometry. You may also need to hide other unwanted 3D bodies to make it easier to select things.
Can I import .stl? I used that kind of file because I couldn’t find .stp for my phone but Shapr3d says when I try to project sketch that “mesh body cannot be selected” when I try to do what you did on my iPad. Also I can only get a purple square with a target in the middle when trying to use the tool project sketches. Can you help through this please?
Hi Nikolina, Unfortunately, because STL files are mesh (STEP or .STP are BREP solid bodies) you cannot reference their features in Shapr3D at this time. What phone model are you looking to use? I would check out GrabCAD.com if you have not already. Cheers, Kevin
Hi, thanks for the prompt response. My boyfriend and I are using Samsung Galaxy A21s and I wanted to make a model of our phones. GrabCAD is the first place I looked at because you recommended it in the tutorial. .STP files don't seem so easy to come by are there any other types that could be used instead? Thank you once more.
Sweep requires you to select the profile sketch and then at least one path. In this case, we continue to select the edge of the phone as the sweep path, until it sweeps all the way around.
